This book is different, in a good way. I liked the secondary characters as well. Hot firefighter, damaged but strong heroine. Iwoudl recommend.
4.5
I would like to thank Netgalley and Loveswept for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was so happy to receive this ARC since I was gifted the first two and love this series. Like the first two this one did not disappoint. If you are afraid to read it because you have not read the first two, no worries, it can be read as a stand alone.
This is a story about two neighbors who meet and come together, both battling scars from their pasts. They are both breaking free and opening themselves up emotionally to what may be. I love the instant connection between the two and how Amy fits right in to Sergeant Joe’s family.
There are a ton of swoon moments, definitely romance, characters that you love to love, real life situations. I think what attracts me to this series is that the main hotties are NOT billionaires!! They are you average guys you know in your everyday life. Hard working and family oriented who come from crappy beginnings and are adopted by the most accepting couple you could find who change their lives and teach them how to be men.
One thing I noticed and my reason for not giving it a 5 is that sometimes the timeline seemed to be a little off. For example, one minute Amy is going on a ride on the back of Misha’s Harley and the next thing you know she is shopping for her own and had lessons. It left me feeling like I was missing something. Another thing the cover does not match the description of the character. He’s described as blond in the book.
Definitely a great quick read!
Love, Always and Forever is the third book in Alexis Morgan’s Sergeant Joe's Boys series. They are stand-alones, but I think it helps if you have read the prior two books. The books center around three adopted brothers, and the characters flow in and out.
Mikhail Wanjek is home after spending ten years in the Marine Corps and settling back into civilian life. He’s purchased a house near his family and is now a firefighter, but he is dealing with PTSD. He has a new neighbor, and she is very attractive and sweet, Amy Short.
This is Amy’s first time living alone. She grew up with heart problems and was sheltered by her family. They are still worried about her going out on her own, and she has to work to keep them at arm’s length. She’s attracted to her neighbor, and the two start getting to know each other when they decide to work together to build a new fence on their shared property line.
Both Amy and Mikhail are nice people, and their relationship develops at a realistic pace (no insta-love or insta-lust.) Mikhail is crazy sweet and seems to be dealing with his PTSD well. Amy’s heart problems added an interesting twist. I think Love, Always and Forever is a pleasant read, but I do not think it is very memorable.
ARC provided by publisher via NetGalley, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.
I became a fan of Ms Morgan when I read the first book of her series, Sergeant Joe’s Boys. Each book has been touching, heart wrenching and wonderful. Though I have to confess, book 1 was my favorite.
This story belongs to the third “brother”. The three had had awful childhoods but were adopted and given not only a home, but also a lot of love and values by Joe and his wife Marlene.
Mikhail is currently a firefighter that takes his job as a “savior” very seriously. He has come back from war a different man. One that has seen death and the horrors of war, and suffers from PTSD. It seems all he has experienced in life is loss.
HIs new neighbor is Amy, a young woman who too has had to deal with issues her entire life. Hers being health related , and now wants to embrace life away from an overprotective family.
These two have baggage, heartaches, but also are seeing the possibilities of living life. Can they find true love? Are they willing to take the risks to achieve it?
Above all , it’s a book about reminders. One being , that health is precious and should be cherished, that love is never easy, that we as a society need to be sensitive to the sacrifice our troops make to keep us free, and that even if in the end our love is not returned, it was worth it.
My only complain is that I will miss these guys whom I frequently wanted to just hug and sit down with them. Will Jay, their friend, have a story as well? I sure hope so.
I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Meh...this book was boring. It was super slow burn (no sexy times until 70%) which would have been fine had the hero and heroine had an ounce of sexual chemistry between them. Alas, they simply DIDN'T. Oh, they made great friends, but honestly, that is all I felt between these two. I was bored out of my mind most of the time.
That said the last 20% did pick up a bit for me but it wasn't enough to save this one from being a disappointment overall.
This is a delightful conclusion to Sergeant Joe's boys. Given the emotional intensity of the earlier two books in the series I thought I was prepared but this story left me with a sweet ache in my chest. I feel not just for Mikhail the protector who wants to keep everyone safe and alive but also for war veterans who are returning home riddled with survivors guilt.
Mikhail is a protector. Every failure to save a human life haunts him starting from the guilt he carries for not being able to save his drug addict mother even though he was just a child at the time. His years with his adoptive family have given him stability, love, loyalty and warmth and yet even they are not able to help him deal with the demons that ride him for the lives lost under his care in the army and as a firefighter.
Amy has been smothered all her life by her over protective family. Determined to live her life on her own terms she ends up as Mikhail's next door neighbor. With him encouraging her, soon she's planting a garden both his and hers, putting up fencing with the help of Mikhail and his brother and friends, learning to ride a Harley, adopting a puppy. She is full of the joy of life and determined to live with the wind in her face as she rides all throttles open. Her biggest joy is the love that she's found with her next door neighbor.
It all comes to a grinding halt when her brother's come to visit and Mikhail finds out that she's had a heart condition all her life and her family fears for her life. Given who and what Mikhail is this news does not go over well. He cannot survive losing another person whom he loves. With his emotional baggage he has her in a grave and gone under his watch while she's learning to live for the first time.
This is a great story. The chemistry and dialog between the characters including a lot of the secondary characters we've met in previous books is fabulous. Hands down this is the best book in the series so far. I hope the author will continue the series and add in the story behind the other war vets who we've met between the pages of these books.
This is the third novel in the Sergeant Joe’s Boys series, but for me, this is the first book in the series that I have read. I have to say, not having read the previous two books did not detract from my enjoyment of this book in any way whatsoever. It did, however, make me very anxious to read the first two books in the series, because if they're anything like this book, they will be fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. The plot was interesting and the characters were complex and well thought out. These characters really draw you into the story, and you just can't help but become invested in their lives. I was hooked from very early on and remained riveted to the very last page. This is a story of love overcoming hardship; one that highlights the struggle many of our veterans go through, and one that shows how love can truly help to manage the unmanageable. It is compelling and provocative yet endearing and enchanting in its own way. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more in the series.
Mikhail Wanjek, the last of Sergeant Joe's boys, is back home with Marlene and his brothers Tino and Jack. Struggling not only with the loss of his beloved father but also dealing with the guilt of war. Always the protector, Mikhail can't deal with not being able to protect the innocents caught up in the war. He has trouble containing his rage until he meets his beautiful next door neighbor Amy Short. There is something about her that seems to calm his soul. There is something about Amy that is sweet and innocent. Almost naive. Mikhail wants to protect her from the darkness of his life but the draw to her is just too strong.
I have loved each book in this series and this one may just be my favorite of the three. The love of this family and the uniqueness of each of the characters made this entire series a must read. This one is definitely one for the must read list!
This book is a part of a series but this is the first one I read. It offers a similar theme of a family adopting and caring for many men, most of whom join the military and come back a bit more broken than before.
Mikhal is a loner and fighting his demons. Amy is fighting for her independence and desperate to live life as she wants. When they meet, it is a beautiful connection.
I have read several of this author works and love them all. She knows how to create heartfelt connections in people while delivering plenty of steam and developing that intense pull between two people. Protection, sweetness, lighthearted fun, and a fierce love is what she delivers in this book.
Definitely a story you will remember. Another winner from Alexis Morgan!
This is my first experience reading a story written by this author and it was quite a very enjoyable experience. This 4.5 star story kept my undivided attention focused on it.
Amy moves in to her own house after years of being under the protective eyes of her over bearing family. One day she knocks on her neighbors doors only to discover a sexy firefighter living there. Mikhail is fighting some demons after being in the army for a few years. Amy brings light into his darkness. She has her own secrets that she's not ready to share just yet.
I really enjoyed this story. They had connection. This is a sweet, low key romance that had a great storyline. Seamless plot and was paced just right. This beautiful story flowed well. I love stories with firefighters in them, they are protective by nature.
This is the third story in the Sergeant Joe's Boys. Although I didn't read the first 2 I was not confused with the secondary characters that are part of this story. Told in the third person with an HEA. I recommend this story.
4 - "We're at a crossroads right now... with a decision to make." Stars!
The third book in Alexis Morgan’s really enjoyable Sergeant Joe’s Boys, series finally brings us Mikhail Wanjek’s story.
IMAGE.
I have to say this book just pipped Tino’s story to be my favourite, and in its entirety, this is a series that has gotten better with each new release. Every book has had a little twist on your standard boy meets girl type romance, and the author has hit the right level when it comes to balancing romance with drama and character backgrounds for me perfectly.
"You’re sweet and funny and so damn beautiful. You deserve better than a messed up vet fighting to keep his head above water…"
Both Mikhail and Amy have pasts that they are trying to move on from, for wholly different reasons, and seeing the strong but emotionally vulnerable warrior falling for the innocent yet independent and feisty heroine made Love, Always & Forever a book I read in one sitting.
The last thing a woman with such innocent eyes needed was to tangle up her life with a man who had seen and done so many ugly things…
You also get plenty of interaction from all the previous characters and I loved the banter between Mikhail, Tino and Jack, not brothers by blood, but brothers nonetheless. Add in two cute dogs, and it was a joy to read start to finish.
"Nothing’s going to happen that you don’t want to happen. Not now. Not ever."
I hope the little hint that was dropped towards the end of the book about the guy’s mutual acquaintance Jay comes to fruition and the author is given the opportunity to match-make and give him a story as well. I also think there is spin off potential here with Amy having three single brothers all perfect for more books too. Whatever the outcome I will definitely looking to read more by Alexis Morgan in the future.
ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was a pleasure to provide the above honest review in exchange.
Great read about an ex-marine that had a bad childhood and still experiences nightmares from the war and a woman that had a medical condition that caused her family to be super over protective of her.
They both have a lot of issues to overcome in order for them to love each other and realize they need each other in their lives.
This was my first book by Alexis Morgan and I totally plan on reading her other books. Especially the ones in this series. And I can't wait for her next one to come out. Because of course she ended the book with th intentions of continuing this families stories.
Very well written. She pulls you into this love story in the first couple of pages. No you can't put it down until it is over. Loved it.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC for my review
From the very first story, Always for You: Jack, Alexis Morgan has penned a profound, emotionally charged and heartfelt series of three young boys with scarred pasts and a penchant for trouble, who were fostered by a selfless couple with a strong hand and love to spare.
As men, Jack, Tino and Mikhail have become proud and independent, but still harbour anger and doubts from the youth they left behind; and none more so than Mikhail. Carrying the guilt of an innocent child and compounded by his losses in the military and then his job as a firefighter, Mikhail has a demon inside that won’t allow him to ever let down his guard or truly know the serenity of happiness. But when Amy moves in next-door, Mikhail feels and undeniable pull, even knowing that the shadows in her eyes often mirror the darkness in his soul.
Love, Always and Forever is a passionate, gripping and heartbreaking story of open wounds and overwhelming sorrow; but more importantly, it reveals the need to trust your heart to know when love is worth the risk. While this story is the final chapter about Sergeant Joe’s Boys, hopefully there may be room for Jay to get his story too and find his HEA.
Once again thank you Ms Morgan; the passion and devotion that fills the pages of your stories is what keeps readers coming back for more and this is definitely a compelling series that deserves recognition.
Wonderfully written with a sweet, hot & sexy touch to the neighbors to friends to more story of Mikhail & Amy. Mikhail is a short tempered former marine & now firefighter, who was adopted as an older teenager by (the late)Joe & Marlene Lukash, who saved him from an uncertain future. Amy is a graphic designer & a recovering heart patient who has moved a hundred miles away from her overprotective family who insist she live her life in a bubble. Their first meeting was definitely not the best way to meet you new neighbor. Mikhail coming off a hard shift at the station is woken up shortly after going to bed by Amy who is knocking on his door with a plate of goodies to discuss taking down & replacing the old fence between their property & then her noisily trying to take down the fence herself. What neither ever expects is that they'll have such a quick rapport & that their relationship will calm both of their hearts during their most difficult times. As we see Jack, Tino, Jay & the ever cute Ricky working together with Mikhail & Amy to put this fence up, we get to see the support, dedication & loving relationship between the adopted brothers, nephew & new friend again, as well as the ever loving mother Marlene. The introduction of Panda & Sarge the 2 new 4 legged members of the family was great, they added a touch of devotion & loyalty to their humans that only a pet can give. We see laughter shared, tempers flare, hearts break, tears fall & questions asked during this story of trying to find your place in life & family & love. What a great addition to the Sergeant Joe's Boys series. Definitely recommend this book.
haven't read anything from this author but this book was funny and very good. Mikhail had a past that kept him wanting to help others and that caused a problem within his family. Amy wanted to move on from her protective family life and be a regular person. Her brothers were a handful but it didn't stop Mikhail from being a part of Amy's life. Their time together helped each other see that there is more to them than a bad past. I loved how this book ends and I will read more from this author.
I really loved this book. It was very well written. It was a nice read for a change, the two main characters had to overcome some obstacles in their lives and I liked how the author handled it. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys reading a well written book with a great plot.
I came across Alexis Morgan with her Snowberry Creek series and the Paladins; I like her writing style, how she creates realistic, developed and relatable characters, with solid background stories.
This is my first read in “Sergeant Joe’s Boys”, the third installment of the series, about the younger son, Mikhail, a firefighter and former Marine. A character with a tortured background and a painful childhood Misha is redeemed first by the love of his adoptive family and then by the heroine, who has some baggage of her own.
Morgan creates a character that is both a striking physical male specimen, a "six-foot-four Viking", all big, blonde and blue-eyed, and a tortured soul, suffering from survivor’s guilt from his childhood (he still carries guilt over his mother’s death), the service and his work as a fireman.
Apparently, there’s nothing special going on in this story, just a slow burn romance with two young people getting to know each other while enjoying each other’s company, with some dreams and secrets blended.
The characters’ families (specially the hero’s) also play an important role in the story with their meddling, alphaness, overprotectiveness and a lot of good-humored banter.
I liked the realistic way the heroine’s condition and her decisions about it were handled.
And now I’m waiting eagerly for Jay’s story, as Marlene promises in the epilogue…
I LOVED this book !! This is my favorite book in the series. I loved Misha and Amy and loved their story.
Misha is the youngest of Joe's sons and the last home after 10 years in the Marine Corp. He hasn't transition well so far but he seems to be trying. His job as a firefighter seems to exacerbate his stress at times. Between his childhood and his service, he's carrying a lot. And he misses Joe. His life changes when he gets a new neighbor next door Amy. Amy wakes him up bright and early one morning after a very bad shift on duty with a plate of brownies, introducing herself, babbling about the fence and he's half asleep. Doesn't know what he nodded his head to, he just wants to shut the door and go back to sleep, but not until he grabs a few brownies.
This is first time Amy has been on her own, she moves away from family, buys a house and is determined to live her life. She sets firm boundaries with her parents and her 4 brothers. She keeps them pretty much in the dark. Especially after she buys a motorcycle after riding with Mikhail. She's keeping some things from him, I felt it was because she didn't want him to look at her differently.
And he's keeping a lot from her. His temper, which she manages to sooth, even after a bad flare up.
These two start working toward something, neither is sure what but it works.
It was great to see the brothers again and Ricky, Jack's son. And their wives make a brief appearance.
Joe's wife, their Mom is present in this book also. She worries about Misha and she can read him like a book. She tries to encourage him with Amy but seems to fall on deaf ears at times. Jack seems to take great pleasure in busting his chops and it does cause friction. The bottom drops out when two of her brothers make a surprise visit, they have a huge blow out and she takes off on her bike, telling him she'll meet him at Tom's. That's when her brothers spill her private business and Misha is totally thrown off his game and angry. Man is his angry. He's cold, defensive and shuts her right down. He's not talking to her, she takes this time to go home and square things with her family. Her mother is a thorn in the backside. Seriously. After spending a couple days cleaning out the rest of her room, she decides to head back home. And prepared to move on. Meanwhile Misha has had his come to Jesus moment also. You have to read it to fully appreciate the whole story.
Alexis writes a great story and this one was just perfection, it had it all. Steam, laughs, dogs and wise cracking brothers. I have really loved this series and recommend each book. Doesn't really matter what order, just read them.
**arc from NetGalley and Loveswept in exchange for a fair review**
I have enjoyed this series, and this addition was no exception. Mikhail and Amy were both lovable characters. Their difficult backgrounds made them perfect for each other. I also loved revisiting the other brothers, Tino and Jack, though the book is definitely a standalone. The addition of the dogs in this book were also fun to read....made me want a bulldog! Additionally, the dialogue among the characters was realistic, well-written, and interesting.
The reason I went with a 4 star instead of a 5 star rating was because of a few elements I didn't care for. I found it somewhat unbelievable that Amy's overbearing family would not have been more intrusive in her life throughout the story. Also, it seemed like Mikhail and Amy became close friends immediately and other events happened very quickly like her motorcycle purchase. Mostly the part I took issue with was the "last night" between Mikhail and Amy after they talk and basically decide that a relationship will not work between them.
Overall, I did enjoy this new addition to the series. I truly enjoyed all of the characters, and I look forward to getting updated on them when I read Jay's book.
This was a really good book. Mikhail is haunted by so many things you just can't help but feel for him. Amy has her own battle to fight. Neither realize when she moves in next door to him just how much the other will help in fighting. What starts out as a neighbor helping a neighbor turns into friendship. But soon stronger feelings begin to take over and a secret that Amy has been keeping threatens to ruin this promising relationship.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
