wow this book was far the best hero books I have read in a while...Misha and Amy was neighbors both holding back secrets and heartache. when Amy realized that Misha needed a friend more than anything she put her secrets behind and helped him even if it meant a lot of baking and ice cream. then the roles kinda reversed and Misha needed to be there for Amy but of course that took some deep soul searching and a letter to get through to him..love love the storyline
I think Mikhail Wanjek may just be my favourite of Sergeant Joe’s boys and I didn’t think Alexis Morgan was going to be able to top the sweet Tino.
The last of Marlene’s boys was back home safe from overseas, but Mikhail brought back with him demons from his time in Afghanistan. In addition, his rocky start in life had left him with a lot of guilt and issues in his relationships. I found the interactions between Jack, Tino and Mikhail to be highly entertaining and heartwarming. Very close in age, the bond they formed when they went to live with Joe and Marlene and became brothers was strong.
Mikhail’s new neighbour, Amy Short, moved into town with her own painful past (in the form of a heart condition) and it was one that left her seeming very young and innocent for her age. Her secrets did play a part in the overall story, but Amy’s sweet and compassionate personality stood all on it’s own in keeping the pages turning for me in anticipation of what would happen next.
From almost the start, Mikhail and Amy volleyed between fighting their attraction and forgetting their agreement to be just friends and acting on emotions. I got each of their reasons for wanting to keep their relationship platonic, but it was so obvious that it was never going to work. Their chemistry was so apparent, from a mile away.
Mikhail was a perfect combination of sweet and sexy. I wavered between swooning and fanning myself each time he lost control around Amy.
“As she backed away, intending to retreat to her bedroom, Mikhail followed her step for step. What was he doing?
“Misha?”
“There’s one more thing before you do all of that.”
He gently pushed her back two steps, effectively trapping her between the entryway wall and two hundred thirty pounds of hard-bodied male. Once again he buried his face in her hair, but this time he nuzzled his way along the line of her neck, sending little riffles of heat coursing through her body. She moaned or maybe he did.
He kissed his way along her jawline, his big hands settling on her ass, pulling her right up against the rigid proof that she wasn’t the only one hungry for something besides breakfast.”
This was a great conclusion tot he “Sergeant Joe’s Boys” series and, based on the epilogue, I am hopeful for a spin-off story for Jay.
Suspenseful, sexy, and full of excitement! Amy & Mikhail were destined to be together but showed that the road to love isn't easy and takes a lot of work on both sides. I can't wait for more from Alexis.
Mikhail Wanjek meets his spunky and hot neighbor Amy Short after she brings over some baked goods. Mikhail is a tired, angry and irritable man who has lost his mother and feels like he should save the world. He has tried the Marines and now he is a firefighter. He has a family that loves him but it never seems to be enough. Amy has a past of numerous surgeries and a family that treats her like a porcelain doll. Amy decided to move over 100 miles away from her family as she wants to be an adult. They draw a line in the sand to only be friends but everyone can see the fireworks between them. Neither want to fall in love with the other. Didn't feel very realistic and had a hard time connecting with these particular characters. Cute fluff book and I will read the other books in this series.
Although I absolutely loved Mikhail and Amy, I have to admit that the supporting characters stole the show! Let's start with brothers. Joe's boys are everything that define the alpha wounded warriors, who also know how to play the knights in rented armor for their damsels. When Jack and Tino and little Ricky help build the fence, the humor is fantastic! Then the humor increases as Amy's brothers enter the scene. All that testosterone rising, only to be controlled by one slip of a woman--Amy. As if both sets of brothers weren't enough, you also gave the canine sidekicks Sarge and Baby with their own humanistic interaction with their masters. They are little guardian angels! And finally Joe, who only appears in a letter. He makes everyone want to be a Joe's boy!
This was my first Alexis Morgan book and I absolutely loved it! The storyline was so good and the characters are so well developed; I felt a draw to them immediately and enjoyed getting to know them even further.
Mikhail/Misha is one hot, sexy, gorgeous man with so much of his past driving his present. He is veteran turned firefighter and is very affected by the experiences he has had and still has in his life.
Amy is beautiful and so full of energy and life. She is just adorable and so friendly and she too has had been shaped by her past. As far as heroines go, she is pretty kick-butt in my opinion. Together these friends to lovers are so wonderful together. They have so much to give each other and are such a complement to the other. They are beautiful and passionate and everything the other one needs.
Love his mom, Marlene, and his brothers and nephew! Fun bunch of people and always there for each other which is so awesome! I didn't realize it was the third book in this series but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I will be going back and reading about Tino and Jack though after meeting them in this book.
So thankful I requested this ARC or I might have missed out on something pretty special. 5 stars!!
This was a nice way to finish the series about three brothers who complete a family after being adopted by an army veteran and his wife.
While this is a good read, I actually like this installment the least. That being said, I recommend this read, especially if you enjoyed the other books in the series and want the conclusion.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is definitely my favorite in this series. This is the third book and can be read as a standalone even though previous characters make appearances.
Mikhail is the third brother and has recently returned home from serving in the Marines. Joe and Marlene Lukash adopted him and his 2 brothers, Jack and Tino, as teenagers. You can feel their connection in their bantering, frank conversations and just being there for each other. He has some PTSD and guilt from his birth mother ODing on heroin. He is a firefighter. IMHO, not the best profession for him to be in with his issues.
Spoiler in this section. Amy has bought the house next to Mikhail. She comes with her own baggage. She was born with a defective heart valve and was very sheltered growing up, by her parents and 4 older brothers. A recent valve replacement surgery has given her a new outlook on life. She has moved 100 miles from her overprotective family to prove to them she can live independently and productively on her own. She is a web designer and works from home. She is feisty, intelligent, independent and knows what she wants from/for her life.
She and Mikhail begin working on replacing/building a fence around the back of both their properties. Of course, his brothers and nephew show up to help, as well as Jay, a friend of Tino. As these two strike up a friendship, sparks are flying as well.
I swallowed my heart and had tears in my eyes a couple times. Family is the foundation of this series and you feel it when reading this series. You see the transformation and growth of Mikhail and Amy, as individuals as well as together. Kudos to Amy for standing her ground and not accepting anything less than what she wants from a relationship, with Mikhail and her family.
This is a feel good romance with minimal angst. When you are done reading it, you have a big smile on your face. Looks like Tino’s friend Jay is up next. Can’t wait!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley.
3.5 stars
We are given a man who has been destroyed by war, firefighting and carries internal demons. His desire for a woman who battled her own war with her body... and overcame its limitations...
He needs to open up and take a page from her belief to live life to the fullest for it can be taken away at any time... She is a force he cannot deny... and together they will find a way to live fully.
This was a sweet romance between two people who needed time to heal their past wounds before committing to each other.
Both Mikhail and Amy were headstrong and determined. They both had a strong support unit with their families that helped get them through tough times.
The characters had a easy friendship that grew into something that was bigger than themselves.
I enjoyed the book but felt that it was a little rushed at the end. I would have liked a little more in this aspect
Absolutely love this book! It's been a while since I've read such a romantic book without a lot of crude language & graphic sex. This book has such rich characters. I enjoyed getting to know Mikhail & Amy & watching their friendship develop. Then as their romance developed I had was cheering for them 100%. Highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading about a great relationship & romance with characters that are wonderful.
Mikhail and Amy are so sweet and perfect for each other. All of Joe's boys are such good men who overcame so much to become such great men. This series was wonderful.
This is the third book in Morgan’s series, Sergeant Joe’s Boys. Each of the boys had a hard life and were in the foster system. Joe and his wife Marlene adopts them as teenagers and raises them to become the good men they are. Each served time in the Military, following in Joe's footsteps. Joe has died and they have all returned home at various times to be closer to the "mom" they love. I enjoyed this series, even though there was a little to much sex for my liking. This is Mikhail's story (Misha), the youngest of the three boys.
Mikhail has recently retired from the Marines and is now working as a fireman. He has his some PTSD from his time in the military, but he is coping for the most part. He does have times where he needs to be alone with his anger and his memories. He has bought a house to begin his new life and seems to be existing, but not much more than that. Then he meets his very attractive new neighbour, Amy Short. The two soon become good friends, working together on a fence and their gardens. Amy is on her own for the first time and she is eager to try new experiences such as learning to ride a motorcycle and adopting a puppy. And Mikhail is more and more attracted to Amy but is worried about taking their relationship any further due to his demons. It’s hinted throughout the book that Amy has moved away from home to escape the smothering love of her family who are extremely protective of her because of a past unspecified health problem. We also learn that Mikhail carries a load of guilt for not being able to save his drug-addicted mother when he was young and then not to be able to save civilians in Afghanistan or the victims of the fires he is fighting.
As the story progresses, you know how this is going to end, it is a romance novel after all, but the journey is nice. You see how both Mikhail and Amy realize they have fences to mend with others and themselves. I enjoy this family put together by love. Mikhail, his brothers and nephew tease each other incessantly and the love they have shows. The way they treat each other when the bad creeps in, the anger and temper that seems to come with PTSD, shows their respect and care. His brothers understand because they went through similar difficulties transitioning back to civilian life, but hold off giving advice except to suggest he find someone he can talk to. The relationship between Mikhail and his adopted mother, Marlene, is one that I think everyone would love to have with their own mother. She is loving, but knows when to advise and when to back off.
This is a nice romantic series and this book ties it up nicely. I recommend this to those who like romance without a lot of erotica. There is some sex, but it is only a couple of incidents so should not turn those off that do not like sex in a book.
I love series that follows a family throughout their ups and downs. And boy Sergeant Joe's Boys is full of both. The third book is Mikhail's story. Of the three books I think he might be the most sensitive. After meeting Amy for the first time he's already protective of her, and he knows nothing about her yet. It takes a short amount of time for his feelings to turn into more, but he knows that he's not in a place that he can have her without hurting her. Amy's fine with the just friends for now since she's not experienced with men anyways. I think that they might have a stronger bond because they have such a great friendship.
Mikhail has had a troubled childhood and suffers from PTSD after his stint in the military. Amy has suffered most of her childhood with a heart defect and is now on the mend and trying to escape her overprotective family. Mikhail and Amy first meet when she knocks on his door in hopes of getting her neighbor to put up a new fence. The two start out as being friends and hesitantly they develop that friendship into something more.
This was a very heartwarming story involving two characters that have had very life changing events happen to them. Both try to find a way to balance their fears, learn to trust one another and rebuild their relationships with their families. This was a great read and I would definitely recommend it to others.
This was the third and final book of a sergeant Joe's boy's series, and my favorite book of the three. After serving his country Mikhail trys to settle in as a civilian. His new neighbor, Amy, does not fit anywhere in his plan. As much as he tried to fight it, he can't seem to stay away.
