A lovely story about adoption and the love between a boy and his bird. Some of the content might be difficult for adopted children, who do not know where they came from or their biological parents. However, the story shows how a young boy is trying to discover where he truly belongs and of the parrot who never leaves his side.
This one was a struggle for me, though I'm not certain why. The plot is fairly simple. The setting is nicely atmospheric and the characters, while fairly straightforward, were compelling and believable. Pablo's story is one of self discovery and the sort of realizations that come with preadolescence. And perhaps that is the trouble. The journey is largely internal and the message is subtle. I wonder if these elements will truly lad with young readers.
