This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you
This the second book in the Devil’s Keepers MC series. Holly’s world has just fallen apart when she learned her father was a corrupt Mayor. Deciding to let loose, she gets a job at the biker bar and instantly falls for Uptown. Uptown realizes trouble is brewing and wants to protect Holly. Quick, fast paced story.
Sorry I was not able to read you book but it went to archive before I could get to it. Sorry once again.
Megan Crane writes a fabulous MC story! Holly is back in town and wont' be denied what she's always wanted - Uptown. I can't wait for more of this series.
Devil's Mark by Megan Crane is the second book in The Devil's Keepers. Set in the swamp town of Lagrange, Louisiana, home to the Devil's Keepers MC. Problems are on the increase for the DKMC with the town Mayor, Benny Chambless, formerly a friend to the Club, arrested by the new sheriff for corruption. He's been Mayor for years and his daughter, Holly, has grown up, wanting for nothing. She's the town Princess, but now, home from college, she is determined to get even with her father by doing something out of character! And what could be worse than working at the Dumb Gator, the seedy biker bar on the outskirts of the town? She walks into the bar and conversation stops and she catches the eye of "Uptown" or, as she knows him, Killian Chenier, local bad boy with a reputation as a ladies man. Holly and Killian only met once when she was 16, when she interrupted him in the local cemetery with a girl. Holly hasn't ever forgotten that moment and has wondered ever since, what might have been.. These two couldn't be more different & Killian cannot hide his interest in Holly; he's going to make her dirty!
Megan Chase created a beautiful not-so-bad boy in Uptown; he's loyal, plays as hard as he works and can be charming when he chooses. He knows that Holly is way out of her comfort zone & he makes sure that there is always another club member at the bar when she's working, to watch out for her. Their chemistry is palpable & Holly cannot deny her response to him whenever he's around. Killian doesn't understand straight away why he has this urge to protect Holly, when all he really wants to do is ruin her and then move on, just like he always does. He's even feeling territorial towards her and that is something that's never happened before. After all, he's the poor white boy from the wrong side of the tracks and she's the dazzling, educated Princess!
There are underlying suspicions around the MC, that is niggling at Uptown. His President saved him from self-destruction by taking him in as a teenager and he's always looked up to the man, but lately some decisions have been off & some of the brothers feel it too. Greeley, from "Devil's Honor" (book 1) makes a brief appearance, plus there are couple of brothers, like “Chaser” who spend time with Uptown at the bar. Hopefully this mounting tension will be resolved in the third book, Devil's Own. This series is interesting - the swamp and the heat permeate the ambience of the story, while the bikers and just as much light and dark as the town people. The developing love story plays out amidst the threat of the swamp and the characters seem to fit very well. This is not your usual MC story but I do hope you decide to read this series - it is good.
I love Holly and Uptown's story. The good girl gone bad and the tough man who started out using her but couldn't help but fall in love.
I love all of Megan Crane's titles, and Devil's Mark is another keeper. Super steamy, with excellent dialogue and a lot of action. There's nothing sweet about this romance. Its a fun, quick romance in the very popular MC sub-genre, but with the benefit of good writing and a fast pace, it's one of the best!
This is the second book in the installment. You don't have to have read the first one to enjoy this one. The author takes you deep into the Louisiana bayou. She vividly describes the scenes. While Holly and Killian are not strangers, nor are they friends. He has thought of her as the spoiled princess of the town Mayor. But now that the Mayor has fallen from Grace, Holly doesn't really know where she belongs any more. Since all financial assets have been frozen because of his criminal activities, she needs to find a job. She ends up working in this tough biker bar as a waitress. Killian is not happy. He feels he has to protect this princess. If you love biker/MC romance or deep romance with lots of sexiness in it, this is the book for you. I look forward to other books by this author. This one had some great points. I liked the main characters. I liked the bit of suspense. I just felt it dragged a bit in spots. I found myself skipping paragraphs because they just weren't interesting and clearly didn't effect the outcome of the story. Some tightening up of the story line and this one would be a hit!
Take a super prim and proper girl, trying to make it on her own, and a big bad biker with a secret sweet spot for her? Well, you get an explosive, sexy book! Sure, he can tell himself and the club that he's doing it for them, but, in reality, how can you use, and throw away someone who's just truly good? This is the first I've read of the series, and apparently there are 3 out. It was stand alone, meaning you don't feel like you've missed anything by not reading the first two. And, by the end, you're going to want to go back and read those! I certainly am! I thought I was over reading biker books, but this was different, in a good way. It wasn't just a bad boy needing redemption. There was a thickness to the plot beyond the sexy bad boy. I couldn't put it down.
Everything about it was lovely, but it was a little bit fast paced.
Holly Chambless has been the town princess her whole life. Now that her father has fallen from grace, Holly is starting to wonder what exactly she has been doing with her life and maybe...just maybe its time to shake things up!
Killian “Uptown” Chenier is apart of the Devil’s Keepers MC. When Uptown sees Holly somewhere she definitely should not be he can't help but wonder if maybe the town princess has more going for her than a pretty smile and a hot body.
Can Uptown get what he needs from Holly and keep his heart out of the picture or will he quickly learn that the town princess is more woman than even he can handle? Read and find out!
I absolutely loved this book and this whole series. The only downside is that I felt there were questions that were not answered....but don't get me wrong there were questions unanswered from book 1 that were answered in book 2 so maybe the mysteries will be solved in the next book. The upside is that Holly and Uptown are explosive together and all of the side characters are so great that you can not help but want their stories
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced review copy of the book.
Well, actually the story progressed quite nicely surrounding the MC in this book, and I enjoyed the back and forth between Uptown and Holly, I had planned on rating this book 3.5 stars, and rounding up, however, there was something that really pissed me off. In the scene where they have sex, good ole virginal Holly says the MOST ridiculous thing for someone to say in a contemporary setting. Something along the lines of “you don’t have to wear the condom with me, I want to feel you.” And well, MAYBE, after dating for a while and sleeping together together for a while, in the heat of the moment, it’s something you forget, but not your first time. You barely know the guy, but you KNOW he has sex regularly, you want to find out about STD’s the hard way? Or get pregnant? Whatever, this really hits a nerve with me though. How stupid can you be. At least he left it on.
I am enjoying the DKMC drama, turns out Digger is up to something. I am curious to find out what since the club found out he was working with Sugar, supposedly a nemesis of theirs. and what will happen when Whale stops showing up to stuff?
Grade: 2.5 stars
I received a copy of this book and am reviewing it honestly.
This is the second book from "The Devil's Keepers" series, as I had read the first and liked it, I looked forward to reading this.
Our heroine in this story is Holly, daughter of the Mayor and raised like a princess. She basically did as she was told and would never interact with someone her father didn't approve of. Life has a habit of changing your world sometimes....
Holly finds out that her father is not the man she thought he was. He is a dirty politician at the very least. Her life has become a lie on all levels. One night she decides to go to a bar after a friend tells her they are hiring, one owned by DKMC and a very rough place...and also a MC that her father stole money from and they want revenge.
When Uptown sees Holly walk in he is shocked. They had an interaction when she was 16 and he never forgot, nor did Holly. This is no place for a woman with Holly's upbringing to be. Uptown "rescues" her from some of the men in the bar and puts her under his protection after he cannot dissuade her from working there.
There is a definite attraction between these two but is the attraction real or is it "revenge" on the MC's part?
Holly was truly raised like a princess but she isn't naive as people think she is. She knows her father was priming her to help with his political career since her mother rarely comes out of her room or speaks to anyone.
Uptown was raised so very differently. His mother was/is an addict and her only goal in life was getting her high. He never knew if there would be food or even a home to go to, much less the men coming and going in his life. His family became the MC.
I felt bad for Holly as reality sunk in. What she thought was her life was a show and she has a lot to deal with. Uptown of course had quite the battle going on inside of him when it came to Holly. Where the club was concerned, they wanted revenge for money he had stolen from them but he had another whole issue with her father....will they survive?
I did like this story. Bikers have their own set of rules and Uptown was a particularly hard man. I wasn't sure if I was going to like him at first but it broke my heart when his childhood was discussed and then I began to understand him more. I like the way of the author. She will give you bits and pieces and then as you put them together it has so much more of an impact.
I would definitely recommend this story!
They are rough and not always gentlemen, but what do yo expect from a Devil's Keeper? However, some of them, like Killian Uptown Chamblais are protectors, especially when he finds the woman he loves. Even though Holly is a princess and the daughter of a slug who is an enemy of his motorcycle club, she gives him hope and he gives her direction. As the story unfolds, Megan Crane gives us the insight into their two worlds colliding through some beautiful lyrical language. I loved the "praying" on the motorcycle...Just gorgeous!
"Devil's Mark" hits it's mark on sexy romance with a bad boy biker and the mayor's daughter! The story focused on Uptown, the Devil's Keeper's bad boy biker and Holly, the mayor's virgin daughter. They have been eyeing each other for a very long time, but were from different worlds. The club was involved in part, but the focus of the story was the H and the h. There was a lot of chemistry and background on the two, that over time came to a conclusion that had more to due with their love affair than the biker aspect of the romance. Overall, the author does a really good job with both Uptown and Holly's story, depicting their childhoods that really describe who they are today based on their pasts and coming truths. There was a lot of angst for the characters, but in the end we see a really good HEA for our H and h. Thank you to NetGalley and Loveswept for gifting me "Devil's Mark" and asking for my honest opinion. This is mine. Recommend 4 Stars!
Admittedly I wasn't a fan of Book 1 in this series so I'm not sure why I requested this from NG. Glad I did. I liked this story much better than Book 1. The story and writing seemed to flow much better than the first. Also, I liked the two MCs much more than I did Book 1's MCs.
Uptown/Killian wasn't a saint by any means but he wasn't the worst guy ever (isn't funny how after reading so many books about MCs your perspective on bad guy/good guy hero changes). A charmer with a smile on his face hiding his childhood misery. Finds a place to call home with his club. Holly who seems too perfect, too naïve, and a complete 180 from Uptown barges into his club somehow. Talk about opposites attracting. I kept thinking "bless your heart" every time Holly spoke.
It's a raw story about revenge, dirty deeds, and a passion that consumes 2 people whether they're ready for it or not. I enjoyed the read and liked their story. Now when I request #3 in this series I'll mean it.
As always first and foremost is a thank you to Netgalley and Random House Loveswept for providing us with a copy of these books so that we could bring you this review.
Oh man these bad ass bikers really got the perfect names. They are devils in how hot and demanding they are. Now they are ready to take on the world until these women walk into their lives. With Greeley and Merritt we have a second chance love. One that has always been in their blood the whole time. Growing and just waiting to explode in the right way. They were exactly the thing that they needed. But I hated the fact that Merritt's ex and stalker got to walk away. I felt for Greeley and his need to get revenge. Then we have a forbidden love in Uptown and Holly. Maybe it was the fact that they needed to release something that they had in the past. An event that changed how they both saw the world. My heart broke for Holly as she discovered more and more who her father really was.
I give both these books 4.5 rumbling kisses...
Happy Reading... Adri
I liked Uptown as a character but I had a hard time with Holly. She was just too contradictory. Prissy but felt at home in the bayou, smart but ditzy, and most annoying of all was her complete lack of awareness. Plus I think they came to realize their feelings too quickly, especially Uptown.
