I really enjoyed this book. It is told from several different people. Alice finds a man sitting alone on the beach in the rain. She invites him into her home. The poor man has no memory and her youngest child names him "Frank". As we follow Alice and Frank's story throughout the book, we learn of Alice's life and follow Frank trying to piece together his life. The second person's story is Lily. She is a young woman recently married and her husband never returns from work one day. Her story is one of trying to find her husband and what happened to him. The third part of the story is from 1993 and follows a family on vacation. There is a Mom, Dad, a son Graham, and a daughter Kirsty. As all three story lines continue it is quite a mystery how the three tie together. You think you have it figured out then a twist happens and makes you think again. It was a really great thriller mystery book and I really enjoyed it. Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for allowing me to read and review this book. I received an ARC of the book for an honest review.

'How long have you been sitting out here?'
'I got here yesterday.'
'Where did you come from?'
'I have no idea.'

I really enjoyed this book!
LIsa Jewell does a fantastic job of developing unforgettable characters....whether they had two legs or four legs. The animals were almost as entertaining as the characters. All so well written! I felt like I knew the personalities of both the humans and the dogs.
I'm always impressed when an author can pull me so far into a story...I was fully invested in this novel and these characters, whether I loved or hated them, they all felt quite believable.
Although there were a few violent scenes, I didn't feel like the author went overboard in her descriptions of the violent acts but still gave enough detail to make me hold my breath in anticipation of what was going to happen next.
This may have been my first Lisa Jewell read but you can bet it won't be my last.
Thank you NetGalley, Atria Books, and Lisa Jewell for providing an advanced readers copy of this book for me to read in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed “The Girls In The Garden” by Lisa Jewell and was looking forward to her new novel. I was not disappointed.
This story takes place in present and past time. There are several story lines so it’s important to keep track of what is going on. Alice is a single mother of three who lives in East Yorkshire, a seaside town, making her living by creating art which she fashions from old maps. A lot of her life seems to be spent in chaos running after her three dogs and three children. One day she finds a man on the beach who continues to sit there through drenching rain and finally invites him into her studio, which is set off from her house. The man appears to have amnesia and doesn’t remember his name, where he came from, what he is doing there, etc. Alice is determined to find out what his story is, she comes to believe that he is a genuinely good man who has been through a traumatic event.
Lily is a very young wife, recently returned from her honeymoon, living in Surrey who is waiting for her husband to return home from work. When he remains missing after two days she contacts the police, sure that something is wrong. The police start to bring up many questions that Lily can’t answer and she realizes that she really doesn’t know her husband that well, what could he have been hiding and why?
In the past a family a four, mom, dad, brother and sister, are taking their annual seaside holiday. When an older man takes an interest in the young sister, Kirsty, her brother is very unhappy and tries to thwart his advances. Eventually the family sees the young man as a threat. They can’t quite put their finger on what feels dangerous about this young man but he makes them all feel uncomfortable.
Without divulging more of the plot I will tell you that the characters are unique, interesting and well developed. Although some of the actions of Alice seem quite foolish, the story all in all is believable enough that it kept me turning the pages. I was kept guessing as to who the young man with the amnesia is, what this has to do with Lily and her missing husband and lastly what it all has to do with a vacationing family many years before.
I also liked her description of the seaside which can at times be calm, beautiful, and hospitable and at other times stormy and frightening. Some terms which could also be applied to the characters in the novel.
I really enjoy Ms. Jewel’s mystery/thrillers and I believe that of the two books that I have read this is the most interesting read and most intriguing.
I’d recommend this book to everyone who wants a quick, page turning, well written novel. Thanks to the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Will also post to Amazon upon publication.
I Found You by Lisa Jewell is three different stories. But how are they related? I will say this book is best read in longer settings. The story grips you right away so you should have no problem reading it in longer settings. Unfortunately, I started the book and picked it up and put it down a few times, before I had some time to read. So on my birthday, I took the day off and read I Found You. What a great way to spend my day. The story quickly grabbed me and there was no way I wasn’t finishing the book.
The first story in I Found You, starts with Annie a single mom and free spirit. Annie discovers a man sitting on the beach with no coat. This man has lost his memory and has no idea how he arrived on the beach. Annie calls him Frank and brings to her home against her friends advice.
The second story is of Carl and Lily a newly married couple. Lily is Ukrainian and new to the area. She is very depended on her hubby, Carl. One day Carl does not return from work. An investigation uncovers some contradictory information about Carl.
The last story is of a family with two teens holidaying in the Yorkshire seaside in 1993. While I was sure these stories were going to be related to each other. Lisa Jewell masterfully gives you the information bit by bit and has you captured. And if you are anything like me you will guess wrong a number of times. If you love twists, turns and secrets you will love I Found You by Lisa Jewell.
I Found You is a mystery/thriller, love story and coming of age story all wrapped into one. This was a 4 star read for me. Be warned if you start this book at night, you will be very tired the next morning!
his was such an excellent book! It hooked me from the start. I loved the alternating narrators and flashbacks. Great characters and mystery.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked all the main characters, and I can't adequately convey how happy I was as the passing pages gradually confirmed that the character I liked was not a villain. The author did a nice job incorporating the setting of the seaside town into the story, and giving all the characters their own voices. I normally am not a huge fan of alternating points of view, but the device was used to great effect in this book. I know the patrons at my library will appreciate this book--I will definitely be recommending it!
In I Found You Lisa Jewell has written an interesting story of a number of people. While at the beginning their lives are distinct, various turns of events mean that they all converge.
Alice is the kind, compassionate somewhat on the fringe woman who takes Frank in when she finds him just sitting on the beach with no idea of who he is and where he came from. He doesn't know his name - it is Alice's younger daughter who names him Frank.
Lily is a young woman from the Ukraine, very much in love with her husband and waiting for him to come home but one evening he doesn't. It soon turns out there may be a lot she doesn't know about the man she married. I liked her, her persistence and resilience in the face of shock and disbelief.
We are also taken back to a family on a seaside holiday in 1993, parents and two children Kirsty and Grey. While there they meet a young man who takes a shine to Kirsty but when she starts to turn from him because she doesn't find she likes him things turn somewhat sour and then dark.
As the story switches from each time and viewpoint, steadily the facts are built up. The links are surmised and then ratified. It is a mystery, but one the reader can unravel along with characters in the story. In places it is dark and twisted but very well balanced by the down to earth, likeable people that help out Lily and Frank to find out the whole story. And in the finding of and facing the whole story there is a chance for a new and wholesome life.
The following review appeared on my blog (www.blogginboutbooks.com) on January 25, 2017:
Single mom Alice Lake lives a lonely life by the sea in East Yorkshire. The 41-year-old takes care of her "Bennetton" children, makes crafts out of old maps, and minds her own business. Until she notices a strange man sitting on the beach near her cottage. He remains there all day, barely moving, despite the inclement weather. The man seems harmless, although he's dazed and can't remember his name or the reason for his vigil at Ridinghouse Bay. Despite her reservations, Alice offers the man a room for the night. As a single night turns into many more, she grows increasingly curious about who the stranger is and what he might be hiding.
Meanwhile, in London, Lily Monrose is searching for her missing husband. The 21-year-old has only been married for three weeks. She can't imagine where Carl could be. When she notifies the police of his disappearance, she's shocked to learn that there is no such person as Carl Monrose. Stuck in a foreign country with no one to lean on, Lily doesn't know where to turn.
As both women search for answers, shocking secrets will come to light. What will they be left with when the truth is finally revealed?
I Found You, a psychological thriller by Lisa Jewell, tells a tense, twisty tale. It's an intriguing page turner that kept me reading and guessing. The novel gets depressing, even a little bizarre in places, but overall, it's a compelling read. Although I didn't love I Found You, I liked it well enough that I'll search out more books by Jewell.
(Readalikes: Reminded me a little of Coffin Road by Peter May)
Grade: B-
If this were a movie, it would be rated: PG-13 for language, sexual content, violence, and depictions of illegal drug use
To the FTC, with love: I received an e-ARC of I Found You from the generous folks at Atria Books (an imprint of Simon and Schuster) via those at NetGalley. Thank you!
Absolutely loved this book! Awesome story line and there were several main characters who I am already missing. In reading this book, you will find yourself wondering who did what and who is who as the chapters do tend to jump around a lot. I cannot wait to read more by this author!
A Captivating, Character Driven Suspense Novel and an All-Around Great Read.
I Found You, by Lisa Jewell held my attention and didn't let go. On a dark and stormy night, Alice Lake, looks out her window and sees a man, sitting out on the beach, alone. He is drenched, clearly confused and shivering, Alice goes to him and though he is a stranger, she ends up inviting him in. The stranger, is in a fugue state. He has no memory and can't recall how he got to the beach. He could be dangerous, and yet, Alice invites him to stay with her, her children and her crazy herd of animals. They call him Frank and help him uncover his lost memories.
Elsewhere, a young immigrant, Lily Monrose is frantic. Her husband, Carl, has gone missing. They are newlyweds and are madly in love. They are always together and only have eyes for, and spend time with each other. When she reports him missing, the police tell her not to worry, that he will most likely turn up, which does not appease her.
Each chapter, stops your heart; each character's heartache becomes your own heartache. As this mystery unfolds, you cannot help but root for Alice; for Frank and wonder: Is Frank a good guy? What caused him to lose his memory? Is Alice safe? Where is Carl? Is Lily as innocent as she seems? You must read this one to find out.
The author Lisa Jewell does a phenomenal job in keeping the readers on their toes and making us care about the story. I Found You, is a fast-paced suspenseful novel that should not be missed.
Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books & Lisa Jewell, for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Published on NetGalley and Goodreads on 1/15/17.
**Will be Published on Amazon on 4/25/17.
I enjoyed this book and have enjoyed everything that Lisa has written. There are several story lines in this novel but they are each handled flawlessly. I deperately wanted to know who this man was and how this story would end so it was a great book for a lazy weekend. It has good characters and quite a bit of mystery in it. If you have not read any of Lisa Jewell's books this one is a superb start. It is refreshing to find an author who is able to keep the reader closely hooked in each and every book they have written.
Thank You NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I thought this was an intriguing book with a great list of characters. The story development was powerful and easy to fall into . The suspense in the first couple chapters had me hooked because of the sheer fascination that the man on the beach had no idea where he was...and the time lapse, though some times confusing, added a nice additional level to the book. Such a creative concept and really thought-provoking book!
I found “I Found You” to be a charming and real love story wrapped in a mystery. The mystery unfolds in the present and in the past, and comes together in a compelling and moving ending. Lisa Jewell manages a tone that is both warm and chilling, and delivers on a page-turner.
I loved the single mom character and her messy life, and felt the “realness” of all of the characters.
Fun, gripping and ultimately a moving read. Get it, stay up late…
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This story shifts from different points of views, different times, and even different locations. Every character I was introduced to I could perfectly imagine knowing in real life. They were all completely realistic and relatable.
We begin with a man sitting on the beach in the cold rain in front of Alice's house. He has no idea where he's at or who he is. Though she is a complete chaotic mess with kids, work and life in general, she decides to take him in and help him. Her best friend and kids are less than impressed with her choice to help.
Newlywed Lily sits at home waiting for her husband to return from work. She is a Russian immigrant in a foreign country and knows no one but her husband. He never comes home. Desperate that her loving, devoted husband is missing she goes to the police, but after they look into his disappearance Lily is told that her husband never even existed. It is up to her to find out the truth so she can bring her husband home.
Then we are taken back to 1993 in a quaint seaside holiday town where 17 year old Gray and 15 year old Christina's parents have rented a cottage for the summer. Gray realizes for the first time that his little sister is growing up and getting noticed by boys. He becomes a protective big brother, but Christina has already been noticed by a local older boy...
These 3 different stories slowly come together to form what I thought was a spectacular ending! The twists and turns throughout the plot were unexpected and intriguing. I wanted to read faster to get to the end, but didn't want the ending to come.
"I Found You" is due to be released in the U.S. April 25, 2017. Add it to your TBR list now. You don't want to miss it. A 5 star read for me! Once again, Lisa Jewell did not disappoint.
Again, thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for allowing me the eARC to read and give my honest review.
Happy New Year and Happy Reading!
I waited a long time to write the review on I Found You because I was pretty conflicted about how I should rate it. On one hand, I could not put it down, and the book had a lot of twist and turns that I did not see coming (the big one I did figure out but not for a while); on the other hand, the female protagonist drove me a little nutty and was fairly unlikable, and several characters did things that no person I know would do. In the end, the fact that I could not put it down and there were some good twists led me to give I Found You 4 stars. Lisa Jewell does a phenomenal job setting up the story and making it unfold in a page-turning manner. I do not want to spoil even one bit of the story so I will not say any more about the plot other than to say that I woke up in the middle of the night and figured out one section of the mystery. That has never happened to me before, and I took that as I sign that I Found You was a really good book if I was thinking about it as I slept!
I Found You is a clever thriller that I generally enjoyed a lot. Thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for my copy of this novel.
How I Read: Kindle
Stars: 5! Take my stars!
Before I Read: Just the description had me hooked. "Two decades of secrets, a missing husband, and a man with no memory are at the heart of this brilliant new novel,"um.. yes please! I love me a good thriller & mystery I can figure out.
After I Read: So.. I sort of guessed the ending, but missed enough significant parts that I would not say I nailed this one, haha. But what a journey to figure it out! I loved that little details kept being revealed that led to the unraveling of the mystery.
What I Liked: I liked the multi-faceted characters that keep you guessing and have wonderful/tragic back stories. The book was excellently paced & was not an ending you guess half-way through. (At least, it wasn't for me! I also liked that each chapter alternated between telling the 3 "stories" within the book.
What I Didn't Like: One of the characters really got under my skin, but hey, it happens!
Recommended for: Lovers of a good mystery/thriller.
