Kendra and Seth are at it again but this time the stakes are extremely high. Are the sister, brother duo ready to take on the Dragons? Be sure to get your copy and find out.
Though I can't attest to how well this book follows the pattern established in the series that came before this, I have to say that as the start to a new fantasy series, this will certainly draw readers of other top writers in the tween fantasy genre such as Rick Riordan or James Dashner. The writing here is crisp, tense, and action-driven. The protagonists are scrappy and imperfect teens whose own quirks and characters play as large a role in driving the plot as the obstacles that they face. The antagonists are complicated, exhibiting both a formidable problem and room for the reader to wonder whether they are justified in their actions. This leads to rich, thoughtful storytelling, the kind of writing that will cause doubt to lurk in the back of readers' minds even as they root for their heroes. While there is little doubt as to what side the reader is meant to take in this epic struggle, readers will undoubtedly grapple with every decision that must be made as this adventure builds into its full crescendo, presumably culminating in books to come. This is an exciting new series, and it's sure to delight both new readers and readers of the original Fablehaven books. Well done on the whole though at times the dialogue can feel a bit drawn out.
I loved the Fablehaven series, even though it was written for children, many adults have been captivated by the fantasy world created by Brandon Mull. Dragonwatch was no different for me, I was hooked from page one. Seth and Kendra are back, along with a new character that quickly became my favorite, Calvin, the tiny hero. A great start to another series!!
Just what we have all been waiting for! Brandon Mull once again returns to the exciting lives of Kendra and Seth Sorenson. Everything that got me hooked into Fablehaven was present in this new adventure. There is action, adventure, fantasy, danger, and even a little romance. Mull’s world building is a force to be reckoned with and takes the readers into brand new world with every turn of the page. His stories are solid and fast paced with just the right amount of humor. I cannot wait to read it all over again!
**Received and early review copy from Netgalley the book will be released on March 14, 2017
I am in love!!! For anyone that love the original Fablehaven series this book will be right up your alley. The story picks up shortly after the events in the last series making it fell as if we have lost no time at all. The world building is incredible, and the nonstop adventure makes for an intriguing book that I found unable to put down. Excellent book for fantasy lovers all around. I give it 5/5 stars and am really looking forward to the next books in this new series!!!
When fans heard there would be another book set in the Fablehaven world, I think they might have gone crazy with excitement. Tears might have been shed and throats might have gone hoarse from screaming in glee.
What can I say about a beloved series?
Another fabulous, wonderful addition, no extra, to the series that fans not only weren't expecting but are over the moon thrilled with. Well done Mister Mull in once again resurrecting a series that many have not forgotten and will live on in their hearts and minds.
The moment I found out Brandon Mull was releasing a follow up to his infamous Fablehaven series I pre-ordered it and when I had the chance to read an advanced copy it was like having Christmas all over again. My kids and I LOVED Fablehaven so I was openly optimistic and very enthused when I discovered his newest book was going to pick up where the previous series ended but focus on Dragons this time.
Brandon Mull did NOT disappoint in this new book.
His book is full of a detailed world any of would love to visit but to see it described through a child’s eyes makes it better. I always find it interesting how he describes the scenery a second time through the eyes of those who don’t know they’re surrounded by magic because it adds this whole other layer to the setting. I felt like I was actually walking around the Dragon Sanctuary. I wish there had been a little more about the Fairy Kingdom when Kendra went in but I cut Mull slack because he did describe it as a world undergoing repair.
His dialogue was perfect. I could feel Kendra’s, and everyone else’s, exasperation with Seth. Newel and Doran always make me laugh so bringing them back was a treat. I like how he really captures so many different types of character personalities to the point you feel like these are all real whether you’re talking about a human or magical being.
I’ve read spin-off series or sequels where it was so bad you felt like a disservice had been done to the original or that it came off like the author wrote it as quickly as possible to capitalize on the money without caring about their fans. This new book was thankfully not tainted by either of those issues. New characters were added to freshen up the story line, a plausible plot line has been created and it seemed like Mull took the time and attention needed to create something that would appeal to his fans who wanted more Fablehaven without sacrificing what made it so great in the first place.
I am hopeful after reading this that the future books will hold onto the same charm and wonder he created in the first series.
This book picks up a few months after the end of the Fablehaven series. Given that it has been years since I finished that series, I really could have used a "previously in" or at least a reminder of who was who and what was what. It was a little bit of a rough beginning, but it picks up after a few chapters.
Seth wasn't quite as annoying as I remembered - whether it was because he was finally learning his lessons or just because I haven't read so many Fablehavens in a row like last time remains to be seen.
While I enjoyed the story, it really was more a series of adventures rather than one large adventure with a large climax. I kept waiting for something really dramatic to happen, but it was all rather more gradual than I remembered the last couple of books being. New setting was interesting as were some of the new characters. More to come from the series I think.
Needless to say, I have many a happy student in my school now that they know this book is on the way. They will not be disappointed and I can see many of them wanting to reread the previous titles again because of all the "look backs" and reminders of what happened in those books. How could you not? Fun read, great seeing Kendra and Seth again and meeting the cousins who are starting their journey much the same way Seth and Kendra did. And Tess. Oh how I love Tess and her fairy ways. Looking forward to adding this one to the collection.
I was excited to see this new Fablehaven book. I reread the original series before reading this so my memory would be fresh. I know this is supposed to be a new series, but really it's more of a continuation of the original (IMHO). I enjoyed revisiting this universe. I'll be honest, I'm a bit skeeved out by the Kendra/Bracken thing, but otherwise a fun book. New and interesting characters, great comic relief, and lots of dragons. The ending came a bit abruptly, but otherwise a fun read well worth the time.
What a FUN BOOK!
I love one of the opening scenes where Seth has fun with one of his "non-seeing" cousins-- to the cousins chagrin :)
Then Seth and Kendra are off to become caretakers themselves--
What great adventures and possible doom await ahead!
Can Seth and Kendra keep the world safe from dragons?
Or will the dragons be unleashed to bring unspeakable destruction?
