I tend to enjoy books in the same vein as Hotel Babylon so I requested this expecting it to be some sort of amusing collection of anonymised anecdotes, instead I’m not really sure what I got but it wasn’t really for me.
Other people have rated it highly though so it clearly works for some people
Dream Job is an interesting look at the contemporary mystery genre and I felt it executed it really well. However, I did feel some of the elements in the story were a bit dated but it didn't take away from the story.
A very interesting tale that held my attention all the way through. Great plot, plenty of smiles & the writing kept me hopping! Thanks for the opportunity with this ARC!
The writing is good, however I couldn't quite connect with the main character. I found her work way too outlandish and everyone made me want to rip my hair out in frustration
Mel's the HR who has to deal with all the crazy people at work, solve their problems and keep the system running. She struggles to find the balance she needs in her life, her personal life's a mess and her work is stressful and full of deadlines and timelines.
I have no idea of what life is like for anyone in HR, and this was downright crazy.
Then there's Ted, a breath of fresh air, and their spontaneous hooking up and situation at work, she struggles to find that balance and the way to the happy ending involves some laughs, heartfelt moments and a lot of chapters!
Honestly this book was boring and whiny and I didn't like it, but I got through maybe a good 20% before giving up so three stars!
Being a HR Manager myself for a private medical company, reading this book was oddly therapeutic as I could relate to it so much! The experiences of a HR professional are varied to say the least and the amount of tact that we need to use on a daily basis is almost unimaginable to any other employee in the organisation.
The protagonist Melie’s character is very endearing and her approach to dealing with the various employee “issues” is something to look out for! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would not hesitate to recommend it. If you work in HR, this book will definitely make you smile knowingly or exclaim “Me too!” in empathy.
