A great addition into any school, public or home library. This book shrinks down fun STEM projects. The projects are simple and the book offers great instructions and wonderful illustrations. This is a wonderful book for school age children and a great way to engage them in STEM (Science, Technology, Math and Engineering) activities.
Science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education starts a lot earlier than it ever has with children, in fact libraries, early education services and childcare services are building programs around STEM in preparation for their schooling years. That is why books like Mini Science Fun by Rebecca Felix is bound to be popular among young readers, teachers, librarians and early childhood programs.
The book starts with a few tips about experiments being tricky so being slow, steady and careful means for a more successful experiment. The author is constantly encouraging the reader to think about what they can do differently next time, what they think is happening during the experiment and most importantly for the experimenters to use their imagination. It is these early positive introductions to STEM that is helping produce young, enthusiastic scientists.
There is a variety of experiments in the book and each page is a colourful and interactive. Each experiment is accompanied by photos, step by step instructions and sometimes an added tip. The rear of the book talks about cleanup and safekeeping, teaching young scientists good habits.
I highly recommend this book for ages 7-11, however this is not to say younger or older readers won’t enjoy reading the book and doing the experiments. This engaging, colourful, fun and education book would make a wonderful edition to any library or child's bookshelf.
This book is super cute. I can see many kids checking it out at the library and getting inspired or even it being a great present for a science loving child. The experiments are not groundbreaking and, yes, these are also found on Pinterest but I think the accessibility of having these at hand with children make it relevant.
I am glad to see more books filling a STEM role. This is the perfect mix of simple science projects for the younger set. Some would need adult supervision but most could be done on their own. A nice add for any kid.
