Gripping read from the start. Real page turner! Highly recommended
How far would you go to protect the ones you love?
Ten years after testifying against her abusive ex, Solomon, Rebecca is living a normal life with her husband and their daughter. When a cell phone that does not belong to Rebecca starts ringing in their bedroom, she knows Solomon has been in her home and her family is in danger.
Out for revenge, Solomon wants to play a cruel game with Rebecca. She must be a silent witness to ten crimes, one for each year he spent in jail because of her. Rebecca must choose each victim, and as the crimes progress, they become increasingly severe.
What a clever storyline! Alternating chapters allow readers to delve into the manipulative thoughts of the abuser as well as feel the fear and unease of the victim. With a background in the police force, Caroline Mitchell certainly knows how to write a dark, suspenseful, and compelling story. If you enjoy reading domestic psychological thrillers, this is a must-read!

Thrilled by this triller.
A well written book that had me wondering who was going to be hurt or killed next and how.
Rebecca witness her fiancé murder a work colleague. After 10 years in jail, he is out and seeking revenge for her apparent betrayal. In a plot twist, he makes her choose the victims. Can she protect those she loves the most?
While the supporting character lacked depth, it didn’t matter in the end, as the real story is about Rebecca, her fight and struggles.

This is only the second book.I have read by Caroline Mitchell , the first being Love You To Death. This is yet another exceptional read from this ..author A terrifying tale of abuse and control. Solomon and Rebecca meet at a low point in Rebecca's life., Solomon is a great help and support to Rebecca or so she believes in the beginning. This is a nerve wracking read.. The tension throughout was just brilliant. Several heart stopping moments had me racing through this book wanting answers as to how it was going to end. I will be looking out for more books from this author.
This was a well written thriller that deals with the world wide problem of domestic abuse. I would recommend this book but you really have to pay attention when are reading because it flips back and forth and it becomes confusing if you let your attention lapse. I would have enjoyed it more had the author kept it simple.
You can almost feel the tension in this book. At parts I was almost holding my breath. Listened to this on audible and the narration was excellent. Absolutely brilliant storyline
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish this book which means I will not be able to review it. I truly appreciate the opportunity and apologize for the inconvenience the lack of review may cause you.
This is the second book I have read from this author and after loving the first one I was looking forward to giving this one a go. Another brilliant book, I was gripped from the very beginning of the book. It doesn't let up at all, with lots of twists and edge of the seat moments.
Well written and flowed beautifully.
A highly recommended psychological trhiller which gets a full 5 stars from me.
Rebecca is a witness and sends her fiance Solomon to prison for the murder of Jake. Ten years later, Solomon is released from prison on license and he wants revenge.
I found Witness a very powerful story. It is a psychological thriller and Caroline’s writing is top quality. She tells a very, very creepy tale and the tension she creates is incredible. Right from the start of her story, my alarm bells were ringing. She mentions things casually in passing and I thought “hang on?” or “you stupid cow!”.
Caroline has the art of great storytelling and the characters of Rebecca and Solomon are fully developed. By the end of this novel, you feel as though Rebecca and Solomon are real people who you have worked alongside for maybe a decade.
I liked how Caroline chose to write some chapters from Rebecca’s point of view but others from Solomon’s side. You get both sides of this story and it does include some domestic abuse.
The story does not build with a linear timeline but wanders back and forth from before Solomon was sent to prison and the current day. Normally this back and forth would drive me bonkers but Caroline used this time shifting purely for you to understand the characters as the psychology is quite deep. Bear with it because Caroline tells a great story and a linear timeline would not have worked.
I loved the way details were thrown into this story, which forced you to join up the dots. As you read through the chapters, you constantly think “I wonder if?” and this added so much enjoyment to this book because you felt like a fly on the wall. Because the author is a woman and Rebecca was a victim of domestic abuse, readers may feel this book is aimed only at women. But men should give this book a read too because it is very, very good. Hen pecked husbands could even fantasise about having some control over their wives!
Witness is a great story driven by fear and I can find nothing wrong with this novel. Okay, I did wonder who the second man was in the video but that does not really matter! Also the cyclist who spat on a character was later referred to as a jogger but that would be nit picking! Yes, some readers may find the subject of domestic abuse to be uncomfortable but bear with it. Sex is mentioned but there is no graphic sex. Sean who is Rebecca’s husband after Solomon goes to prison, is a vet and animals are included in the story but no harm comes to an animal. What you have is an excellent psychological thriller that gets the top score of 5 stars from me.
A great suspenseful book that doesn't let you put it down until you're done
I was approved to read this book by netgalley in return for an honest review.
I have read and loved all of Caroline Mitchell's books and this is another gripping read. The story revolves around Rebecca who meets Solomon on a visit to th hospital to see her mother who is suffering from cancer. He becomes her "perfect" boyfriend and she is totally smitten by him but his caring nature is a facade and suddenly he reveals a dark side and he becomes abusive and violent towards and kills a work colleague.. She escapes him and rings the police and reports him and he gets sent to jail. 10 years have passed and Rebecca is now happily married to Sean and they have a little girl. Sean knows nothing about we about which is about to catch up with her because Solomon gets released from prison and is set to avenge Rebecca. This is a fantastic read which will keep you hooked until the very last page!
A thriller built on fear of an ex lover and your past . A compelling dark drama /thriller which keeps you turning page after page .as the tension rises
Cunning plot and compelling reading - with a final twist to the story which I wasn't expecting. I alternated between wanting to shake the central character and get her to tell someone what's happening, and then wanting to put my arms around her because she's so frightened and intimidated by the events orchestrated against her. The villain of the story is totally believable, someone who has a charming public persona but who in reality is devious and nasty. I thought this book was good - and I'd recommend it.
This book was an original idea for a psychological thriller, but still achieved what many books do not. What do you do if someone is forcing you to engage in illegal activities, but is watching your every move, and will harm your family if you don't follow instructions to a tee. This book, will make you pity, hate, and many other emotions the character and what she's going through. A book that will give you a roller coaster of emotions.
OH MY GOD!
What a truly twisted story this is! It's utterly brilliant!
We start in Rebecca's living room, there's a dead body and her husband is on the run. Fast forward ten years and Rebecca is a mother and farmer's wife. Life is great. Until the phone starts to ring.
She knows who it is before she answers. Solomon.
Back to exact his revenge on her for leaving him all those years ago. But how far is this revenge going to go?
What a fantastic plot! Told from the points of both Solomon and Rebecca, past and present this is one piece of superb writing!
I've said before that I think writers who manage to do the then and now story, without loosing my attention, deserve a medal and it's a big massive thumbs up from me on this one! It could easily have been confusing, Caroline could have gone with lots of red herrings and false leads, but she didn't. She kept it 'simple' and I use that term loosely! Very loosely!! The story is detailed and keeps you completely on your toes in terms of what is going to happen next and I bloody loved that!
As the past starts to unravel and the present gets more and more unsettled, can Rebecca face up to her past before it's too late for those she loves?
I would highly recommend this book, it's a fantastically twisted tale with a baddy you will instantly loath!!!
Good book. It started out really good and kept my interest all thruoiut the book.
I love when a book starts from the first page and sucks you in and you keep flipping pages as fast as your eyes can read! This is that book! Lots of thrills. Loved it!
Witness by caroline Mitchell is a mystery and thriller and general fiction (adult) read.
To Rebecca it was a brave decision that led to her freedom from domestic abuse. To Solomon it was the ultimate betrayal.
It’s been ten years since Rebecca’s testimony saw Solomon locked away. Enough time for the nightmares to recede, the nerves to relax; enough time to rebuild her life and put the past behind her.
Then one day a phone rings in her bedroom—but it’s not her phone. Solomon has been in her home, and has a very simple message for her: for each of the ten years he has spent in jail, Rebecca must witness a crime. And, to make matters worse, she has to choose the victims.
Fail to respond and you get hurt. Talk to police and you die. Ready to play? You have sixty seconds to decide…
As the crimes grow more severe, the victims closer to home, Rebecca is forced to confront a past she had hoped was gone forever.
OMG what a read. I loved Rebecca. She was so strong. I couldn't put it down. Full of twists and plots. And what a twist. Wow. This is my favourite book yet. Caroline has done it again. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. Definitely worth more than 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.
A truly terrifying read that demands your absolute attention. Forget about anything else you had planned, once you start reading this book you will be totally drawn into the twisted world of Solomon. A sinister tale of revenge and dark secrets, this book is a must read for all psychological thriller fans.
This is my third Caroline Mitchell novel. Loved the first one and gave it five stars. Wasnt gone at all on the second and gave it three stars, so I went into this one with hope but not sure what to expect. I really neednt have worried.
Rebecca is in a very abusive relationship with Solomon. We start with a murder and Solomon going to prison as Rebecca ups and moves herself to Wales to start a new life. Married now with a child her horrible and secret past is behind her, or so she thinks. Solomon is released from prison after ten years and he has one thing on his mind - revenge.
What an absolutely fantastic read. Chapters told from Rebeccas perspective, from her past through her journal and in the third person from Solomons perspective in the present, we have a beautifully told story that will keep un-nerved right up until the final page.
Rebeccas is a fantastic central character who, despite having her flaws and having to make some impossible decisions, you have total empathy with.
Solomon as well is a fantastically written abuser. A scary character, possibly a sociopath, he isnt a two dimensional villain as we find in so many stories, but a genuinely scary and believable character.
I loved the pacing of the book as well. Fleshed out little by little, it never dips as you turn the next page in anticipation. The tension throughout is palpable. Yes its a real page turner, one more chapter...one more chapter...
The ending as well was fantastic. I wont go into any detail but I loved it. An easy five star review for me. I just loved it from start to finish.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Thomas And Mercer and Caroline Mitchell for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
