In the end I didn't end up loving this love story set in 1980's New York. That could definitely be my fault, as Libaire's writing is gorgeous and I loved the characters. I just wasn't satisfied by the story.

I know this book was popular but I found it very shallow and naive. The writing wasn’t interesting and the story was underwhelming. I can’t say I’d recommend this.

⭐️⭐️ Nearly ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mixed views on this one. It started good, I liked the writing style and character depictions and the fact they were from different worlds.

But the sex etc it was all too much and I’ve read better in the genre.

The book was slow going at times but did pick up the last quarter and had an interesting ending.

Did not have time to read this book - still on my TBR. Thank you for the opportunity and my apologies for not getting to it.

Great idea for a book and really well executed. A thoroughly good read. Highly recommended. .

A great novel, set in 1980s New York. Elise Perez and Jamey Hyde are from different worlds, but their lives intersect and there is an instant connection. When they move to Manhattan, their different social origins intervene, in an attempt to split them up and the consequences for the couple become quite stark.

Excellent prose, well-constructed novel. Engaging characters, and quite gripping. Very much recommended.

I really enjoyed watching the power between this couple swing to and fro. Who has more control? A modem Romeo and Juliet

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of White Fur. This was seriously one crazy read. I am not sure how to some it up but I could not put this book down, Everyone, really, is just looking for love.. This story is about two young people from two different worlds, who fall into a deep, intense relationship full of lust and grit and tragedy. It's dark, it's dirty, it's raw, and comical .The story takes place in the 1980's, in New York.
I really felt for the young man Jamey who is due to inherit much from his wealthy family. He has never been happy in his life until he meets Elise who had left her dirt poor home to come to New York to try and find a better life, and ends up loving Jayme "too much".

I DNF this book. The writing style I couldn’t get on with at all. Very choppy and not getting to the point. I want a story to be told, not guessed.

In all honesty, I had no idea what this book was about but I checked it out without knowing anything. The story takes place in dual perspectives following two completely opposite characters that develop a sexual obsession which eventually turns into something more. Together they face all odds, and I was really surprised which how much I wanted to know where it would all end. I wasn’t captivated throughout the whole book but I was interested in knowing where the story was going to end because of the glimpse into the future we get in the first few pages. I did lose some interest in some of the middle areas and probably would’ve skimmed it if I had been reading a physical book. Instead I found myself losing focus in the audiobook but kept going. I’m glad I got through it cause this was such a unique story that I’m glad I didn’t miss out or give up.

The ending...huh?

This book had been languishing in my to read pile for quite a while. I'm glad I finally got around to it, even if I don't understand it. Pegged as a modern day Romeo and Juliet, it doesn't totally follow the formula.

Belated thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

I found the characters to be unlikeable and unrelatable. The story so heavily revolved around sex, I just didn't feel any sort of deeper meaning to the story.

This was a great gritty novel for fans of Rent or A Little Life. Highly Recommended. I loved how the author described the setting and the characters. I really felt like I got to know them.

There was an explosive chemistry, lot of unlikeable characters and I didn't connect with the book at all.

I've tried to finish this book many many many times. I just couldn't do it. I thought it would be like a Romeo & Juliett type of book. Because I grew up in the 80's I thought i would like.

After several attempts to read this, I decided that this wasn't the book for me. I didn't connect with any of the characters or the story. I expected more of a Romeo + Juliet story in which there was an examination of Jamey and Elise's cultural clashes. Libare has a way with words, though, and I'm curious to see what else she has written to see if it's just this story that didn't mesh with me!

I just couldn't finish this. I found the main female character just too abrasive. I could not connect to the characters. It was gritty and powerful. Just not the read I was looking for at the time.

Jamey and Elise, from different sides of the social spectrum, fall in love. Sounds good, but sadly it wasn’t - everything about this book is stilted and awkward - not my cup of tea at all, but I’m sure it will appeal to lots of other readers.

****NETGALLEY REVIEW****
I didn’t know what to expect from this book and it was nothing like I expected.

I immediately fell in love with Elise. She was tough and vulnerable at the same time. You feel for her and root for her. You feel her passion for life and her sadness over how her life is. You want to scream at her to run away from him because it always ends badly. But she’s loyal, she never gives up on Jamey.

Jamey! Poor little Jamey. At first that’s all you think, poor little rich kid. When you compare their lives, you don’t want to feel bad for him. At first.

They both have such opposite lives, but the same heartache. They want to be loved and to live someone. There are some points where I wanted to slap Jamey because you felt like he just didn’t get it. You wanted him to wake up and see Elise.

When you read or hear about two lovers not meant to be, you know it’s going to end badly. Right from the very beginning of this book you know it’s going to end badly. You go through out the whole book with the sense of foreboding, it’s there over your should the whole way. But you can’t put the book down. You have to know how it ends, even when you already know how it ends.

Unexpectedly.
