As someone who reads a lot of nonfiction about Russia and Russian history and novels set in Russia, I choose to read The Girl from the Metropol Hotel. I was not disappointed. The so much roughness and misery, but the author is not appealing to the reader for pity. You get some perspective on Russia during that time, and also get to know a very determined kid who has humor and resourcefulness..

Ludmilla grew up in a family of Bolshevik intellectuals who were ostracized and left to starve after the Russian Revolution. It is hard to give a better description of the memoir, other than to say it was fascinating. Well written and intriguing, I had a hard time putting it down. This is one well worth picking up!
