I liked the idea of this novella set, but I ended up disappointed. The first half was dark and gothic and pretty good, though because it was so short everything felt super rushed and I ended up pretty confused. The ending was weird fornme because of how short it was and ended up annoying me.
The second half felt like a complete 180 from the first because the character's personality completely changed and I spent the first couple chapters confused because it was just an information dump. I lost interest about halfway through and I just feel so annoyed by the characters.
I get that author wants a clean story with no sex, but jeez, she has murder and sexual assault of children mentioned, has one character refer to the MC as a "Breeder", and a priest that is only a priest in title. I honestly think this story would have been better if it had had more creative language and sex.
I personally did not like them and will never recommend them to anyone. Even though I finished it in a night, I feel like it was wasted time. Maybe the plot would work as full length novel and if the author stopped trying to make it clean but with violent undertones.
