When I first read the synopsis I felt like this was a bit like the Fallen series, with a Passenger twist. But it was much more than that. I love all the characters and know that my teens will also.

Epic, exciting, romantic and sweet. I am DYING for the next one!!

HOLY COW!

You know a book is good when you don't even want to stop to write a review, but instead get online to hunt down when the next book is coming out. I absolutely loved this book!

Jessa is a Traveler with the ability to slip into different realities using any type of reflective surface. The only catch -- most of these realities also have a Jessa already in them -- with different life experiences and relationships. She's not the only Traveler either... Finn lost her once in his reality and he's determined to save Jessa in this new one.

I absolutely fell in love with the characters in this book. Jessa, Finn, her best friend and even her brother... they're all memorable in every reality! I loved the shifting dynamics between them. The author did a fantastic job with incorporating all of these realities and experiences into Jessa's current existence. It was incredible to watch her character grow and blossom with each new experience.

I'd probably rate this book 4.5/5. There were a few issues that kept me from giving this a solid 5/5. The world-building was very good without only a few small hiccups and inconsistencies. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the inconsistencies drew me out of the story. Also, the writing in the first couple of chapters was a little awkward. I stumbled through the first part of the book, getting annoyed with some of the repetition and redundant internal dialogue of the main character. At one point, I counted the author using the word "I" five times in three sentences.

Thankfully, things smoothed out after the first few chapters and then I couldn't put the book down. The author has a gift for writing dialogue and letting the plot unfold naturally. This book is a fantastic fantasy adventure with lots of action, adventure, and even a bit of romance (and those awesome tingles) that will appeal to both young adults and adults.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a terrific new fantasy series. As for me, I'll definitely be following this author and series. I can't wait for the next installment to find out what happens next!

**** Thank you to Swoon Reads for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!****

So this was a book that had an interesting sounding premise and while it wasn’t a complete disaster it was a lot more boring and confusing than I expected it to be.I can definitely see how this would appeal to others but it really wasn’t for me.

The Plot

First of all this book isn’t really about time travel, it’s more like traveling to alternate realities where you have an alternate self that you swap places with, so like I said it got confusing. And the pirate ship on the cover doesn’t really mean anything because there’s only mention of a ship at all once or twice and there are no pirates, one of the Finns is a privateer and that’s it. Just saying.

So the way this book started was completely boring and only at about 20-30% did it get a little bit more bearable to read through, I honestly almost DNF’d this because the beginning was so slow. Although while the plot and story proved to be interesting enough to finish it was still really underdeveloped and didn’t have any real conflict or direction for the longest time. It was sort of just a mess. I felt that the story never had much depth to it or complexity to truly captivate me.

There’s also the fact that I found this book to be pretty full of YA tropes such as insta-love, the Chosen One/special snowflake, and a love triangle. I was honestly pretty sick of it because every time I found a trope there was another right around the page, especially the whole Jessa is a special Chosen One instead of a normal Traveler. Like really? Come on.

In general I can’t really tell you WHY I kept reading except that it just got a little more exciting half way through and some of the realities Jessa visits were really interesting, that was about it. However, even though some of the realities were neat I thought that the overall action and adventure aspects were severely lacking. You can travel to alternate realities and what do you do? Go to a cafe and eat special desserts? Boring. I wanted way more excitement than was provided and definitely a lot more world building too!

Also that ending was just downright cruel and confusing! Unfortunately I can’t really get into it because of spoilers but I really didn’t like (or understand why) things happened to some of the characters.

One other odd little tidbit of information that drove me NUTS in this book was the fact that Jessa’s brother Danny apparently plays Super Mario and Mario Kart on his Xbox. NOOOOO! For those of you who don’t know, this is impossible because Nintendo only makes its Mario games for their own consoles and can therefore NOT be played on an Xbox. This bothered me because I felt that if the author wants to include something like this in her book she should at least know what she’s talking about……

The Characters

I actually quite enjoyed the characters in “Traveler” which may be the reason why I could bear to finish this book and rate it 2 stars instead of 1.

Jessa is a likable heroine and actually makes pretty sound decisions, she doesn’t really go around abusing her power or making stupid choices. I liked her narration style as well, I found it easy to read and enjoyable.

Finn was sort of just okay he definitely was a sympathetic character but overall there wasn’t really anything speculator about him for me. However, one of his alternate selves is a privateer (basically a legal pirate) and HE was pretty swoon worthy.

Then there’s Ben, Jessa’s BFF and also other love interest whom I liked a lot more than Finn because he just seemed like a nice, good guy. I really didn’t like how Jessa treated him unfairly a lot of the time though, make up your mind girl!

Then just a quick mention of Jessa’s family I liked that her mom was fair, hard-working, and just a good parent in general and I also liked that there was representation of autism with Jessa’s brother Danny.

The Romance

I actually kind of enjoyed the romance in this book apart from the very insta-love feeling and the love triangle. Sometimes the whole “destined to be together” thing works in books and sometimes it doesn’t, but in this case I thought it worked.

The thing that really did bother me the most was the love triangle because it was so pointless, I understand Ben having feelings for Jessa but come on we as readers all know he won’t win because Finn and Jessa end up together in every reality…so.

And I will say the romance and the characters got SUPER messy and confusing at the end, which is part of why I HATED the ending.

In Conclusion

While this book wasn’t what I wanted or expected it also wasn’t as bad as the beginning led me to believe it was going to be. It turned out to be just sort of a mediocre book for me.

What I Liked:

The characters
The romance to some extent
Some of the alternate realities

What I Didn’t Like:

How confusing and directionless a lot of the plot was
Lots of tropes
Lack of action
The ending

Recommend?

I can’t really say I’d recommend this book at all, however, as I said earlier I can definitely see how this book might appeal to others it just wasn’t my type of book.

Traveler by L. E. DeLano is a YA sci-fi/fantasy time-travel novel filled with action, romance, and mystery. Featuring two main characters that I really adored and a plot that was unique and interesting from the start.

Jessa St. Clair dreams of other worlds and writes her dreams all down in her stories. One day, one of her favorite memories from her dreams, Finn, appears in front of her out of the blue. In real life. He's come to warn her that her life is in danger and he is there to prevent her from dying. Of course, Jessa doesn't believe a word he says. So, Finn calls for backup and this is when things become interesting.

Soon we learn Jessa and Finn are Travelers, born with the ability to slide through reflections and dreams into alternate realities and times. That Travelers switch with their other selves in the other realities, and then when they switch back they keep all the memories. Like Jessa, it took me a second to wrap my head around, but the concept is very interesting. Besides Travelers, there are also Dreamers, those who are in charge of keeping track of all the possibilities in all the realities. This alone, the entire world building and mythology, was magnificent for me. The imagery and all the details in the various realities definitely enhanced the story.

Plot-wise, the story moved well and kept me interested as we tried to unravel who was trying to get rid of all the Jessa's in every reality and why. Though I will admit, there were some parts in the story that kind of reduced my overall enjoyment (ie. not a big fan of love triangles, and the ending kind of gutted me), but I'm still glad I read it.

Overall, Traveler by L. E. DeLano was a great debut novel that set up the stage for the next installment and I look forward to reading book two. I would recommend.

An interesting story about writing time-travel and romance! Not to mention that the cover is amazing!

4.5 Stars!
Traveler is a story about a girl named Jessa who finds out her dreams have been more than just dreams; she is able to travel between realities using mirrors. However, Jessa soon learns that her counterparts in other realities are being killed off and she must figure out who is doing it and why.

This was such an interesting story! The concept was completely different than anything I've read, so it was fun to navigate the new world of traveling right along with Jessa. The underlying mystery of the story kept me guessing and all of Jessa's adventures kept me turning the pages. I thought the different realities that Jessa traveled to were both really fun and terrifying. Imagine if every little choice you made in your life branched off into different realities!
Jessa was a very relate able character and Finn was so easy to fall for, especially a certain pirate version of him…
The ending of this story was completely heart wrenching and left me itching for more. I will absolutely be picking up the next book in this series!

Traveler has intrigued me for a while now. The cover captured my attention first, but that summary was what clinched the interest. I really did enjoy the story.

Jessa is a Traveler—someone who can travel between dimensions. But, unfortunately, someone is trying to erase her. In every reality. Finn is another Traveler; one who wants to protect her and always seems to be a catalyst for her demise. As they attempt to seek out who is trying to kill her (and why), things really start to get more dangerous.

I definitely loved visiting the other realms. There weren't many, but the one she seemed to enjoy the most was my favorite. I mean, captain/pirate Finn is HOT. I could easily read an entire novella about that particular world. I loved the concept and traveling, even if I was still questioning the whys of it all for most of the book. It does eventually get explained, thankfully.

The story is pretty well-paced. I do think at times it was at a standstill and nothing was really happening. However, once it gets going, you'll find yourself glued to the pages, desperate to get to the end. The mystery of "who" was quite a surprise to me. I never trust anyone in books, so had nearly everyone as a suspect. The reveal of the main instigator wasn't necessarily a surprise, but the one carrying out the wishes was. I feel like an idiot for not catching it, but I sort of blame my focus on the "love triangle" for missing it.

Speaking of love triangles, this one was obvious, but not to Jessa. I definitely saw the feelings from both Ben and Finn. And I suppose because of the circumstances, I definitely leaned more towards Finn. (I blame the pirate version!) But really, both were great characters and had their own strengths and lovable traits.

Traveler ends on a pretty intense note. One that I wasn't too happy about. I don't mean it sucked at all. It's just one of those things you don't want to happen, happened. But, since the story is really just beginning, I have faith. This is definitely a strong start and I will pick up book two to see where Jessa's story takes us next!

This was a fun read! It's not a lengthy story, but in it's short pages the author packs a punch. Almost immediately you are thrust into action, the pace never slowing. The relationships between all the characters felt believable and real, even in their unreal situations. I found the concept cool and interesting, and well developed - and I just wanted more. That ending, the cliffhanger was cruel! Now I will wait (not so) patiently for the next book.

And can I just say, pirate Finn? Swoon indeed!

I really enjoyed the premise of this book, but there were certain plot points, one of which came off as love triangle-like, disappointed me. It ended on a huge cliffhanger and I want to read the second book, but I'm hoping it gives more information than this one provided.

Absolutely adored every swoon worthy, action packed second. This was a new look at traveling through time and different realities. This book had me laughing and tearing up through out the whole story. I didn't expect to finish this in one day. But I did. I just could not put it down. I wanted to see what happened next. I wanted to learn more about traveling and all of its effects on the world. And I couldn't wait for another moment with Jessa and Finn. This was an amazing story that had you dying to get your hands on book two.

Traveler is about a Jessa St.Clair, a teenager with a vivid imagination who has a natural talent for writing. She's constantly scribbling down story ideas based on her dreams. One day her rather ordinary life is turned completely upside down when one of her characters, a boy from her dreams, approaches her in real life. He tells Jessa that she's a traveler, a person who can travel between dimensions and worlds. The catch? She's in grave danger. Someone is trying to murder her in every dimension and they both need to work together to find out why.

Likes:
- The pacing was was very slow at the beginning. I didn't initially connect with the story or the characters at all. To be completely honest, I would have given up if I didn't have to write a review for this blog tour. I'm very glad that I didn't because about a quarter of the way into the story things start to pick up and it's pretty fast paced from there on.
- I really enjoyed the characters. Jessa was the type of character that I could see myself being friends with in real life. She's tough, caring and made tons of comic book references that made my little nerd heart happy. Jessa's older brother Danny has autism but it doesn't define who he is. There were tons of hints that he was the only character to actual know Jessa was traveling between dimensions, he just couldn't properly articulate it. I think he's going to play a much larger role in the sequel. How? I'm not really sure but there's something definitely there. And I can't talk about the character without mentioning Finn. Oh, Finn *sigh* I loved him to pieces.
- The book doesn't give anything away and I really enjoyed that about it. I had no inkling about who was targeting Jessa until the last few chapters. It kept me guessing and that's what really kept me going through the slow parts of the story. I hate it when books reveal everything to the reader too soon.
- The ending was so, so good! It was shocking but in a good way. I'm now completely hooked and want the sequel in my hands right away. My mind was racing trying to figure where the author will take the characters next but every scenario I come up with leaves me with just too many questions.
- I loved how the author included a recipe for glitter mousse at the end of the story. What is glitter mousse you ask? You just need to read the book to find out. :)

Dislikes:
- It's advertised as being about steampunk pirates and yeah, a charming pirate appears but not nearly enough. I kind of feel ripped off in a way. Like I signed up for something and only got half of what I was promised.
- There is a love triangle and I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES so yeah...NO!
- There was one scene in particular that rubbed me the wrong way. In it Jessa judges another girl based on her tight clothes and heavy makeup. I hate it when books have their female characters judge each other. It's hurtful and damaging. It's basically saying if you dress like this then you are this type of person. NO! This scene also stood out because it didn't fit Jessa's characterization.

So, while Traveler wasn't exactly what I was hoping it to be, I did quite like it by the end. I think it's one of the book series where each book is better than the last. The author has setup a solid foundation and left me wanting more. The sequel, Dreamer, is scheduled to be released next year.

Jessa is a writer, and all her material comes from what she dreams at night. Or at least that's what she thinks until one day Finn, who plays a role in her every dream, shows up one day and asks Jessa to have coffee with him. He explains to her that they are both Travelers who can go through any surface they can see themselves in to alternate realities, and this seems like an amazing talent until Jessa is told that her other selves are dying one by one in each reality. Finn is here to make sure that this Jessa stays alive.

Can I just say that I fell in love with this book?! I haven't had a book hangover like this one in a long time. I was mesmerized by every alternate reality that surfaced, wanting even more details and time in each than was allotted in the plot. The realities ranged from fluffy goodness to dystopian extremes, all pulling the reader in to its own place. I loved reading about all the different Jessas and their own stories. And of course, falling in love with Finn all the way. This book not only offers romance but adventure and a feeling of desperation for it all to work out. Traveler left me wanting more, and I cannot wait to lay my hands on book two.

I rated this 5/5 and highly recommend.

I tore through this book, I couldn’t put it down every time I tried it kept getting better! Let’s talk some world building here guys she literally recreates reality over over but it is never the same! I could not believe how easy it was to transition and know where I was. It was clear every time we went somewhere knew.
I loved the plot with the traveling and different reality’s. I thought it was well done and super clever. That you are you no matter where you go. At least an extension of you. I only had one issue if you can even call it that, if all the different us are a little piece of us how are we in love with one person or are we in love with every extension of that person. I know you can’t understand me read then come talk to me about this bit HAHA well I am not to mad about this because a certain pirate has been all over my mind during this read. Speaking of lets move on.
Characters let me start with Jessa number one. I really enjoyed her and her outspoken witty attitude. I would without a doubt be friends with this girl. She is there for her family and I loved that. Danny is her older brother. He has autism but that does not define him. He was one of my favorite characters. I could just tell and still can tell he knows things that others don’t. In my heart i’m certain he will play a huge role in the second book. Well on the subject of diverse characters we also meet a Jessa who is deaf. It is something I have always wished to see in books. We need characters who are deaf, blind, autistic, we just need more diversity period.
OKAY climbs off soap box. I loved Finn and Ben. Our two main boy characters aside from Danny. We get to meet more than one Finn and my my I could live in a world with multiple hims. To be fair I quite like been a lot also. These characters are swoon worthy for sure! THE END THOUGH wow the end I can’t say anything else. I just need book two already. Like can I beta read please!? Ill take every little chapter one could spare I need more!
I’m babbling at this point GO buy the book you won’t be disappointed. Four stars!

The idea of this book was great, and I thought it had a few strong moments. But where was the editor? The story so often got bogged down and sidetracked, and the characters never came to life in any meaningful way. These seemed like issues that should have been addressed in the editorial process -- the whole story read like a first draft with a decent amount of promise, but as a finished project, I found it disappointing. Sorry to have to leave a negative review -- it just didn't work for me.

4.5/5 Stars

If you slap a pirate ship on the cover, there's like a 90% chance I'll pick up your book. Case in point: Traveler by L.E. DeLano. This debut not only boasts a gorgeous front but also contains imaginative concepts and worlds as well as swoon worthy characters and emotionally charged moments. Jessa's dreams are actually realities, alternate ones at that, and when Finn arrives with a dire warning, there's more to lose than just writing.

Alright let's start with the brilliant premise. I mean, it's one thing to travel through time, but to travel to alternate realities, how cool and unique is that? Travelers can move from one reality to the next through a reflective surface and essentially trade places with themselves. It does become a bit convoluted when it comes to death and dreamers, but honestly this concept is just outstanding.

With all of these different realities, DeLano creates some absolutely amazing places. I loved that in one area there was glitz and glam and then the next had desolation. A particular favorite was the Victorianesque reality filled with pirates and parties. Everything was so well detailed and described making each reality stand out and I loved the changes in character that went along with it.

As Jessa is brought into this strange new world order, her reactions are dead on, and I loved how she came into her own and faced the situations thrown at her. Finn is a rather typical book boyfriend; kind and carrying with a hint of mystery thrown in. This never stopped me from loving him though. I also really appreciated both Jessa's best friend Ben and her brother Danny. The two of them added more depth to the narrative.

Overall L.E. DeLano's Traveler was a wonderful debut filled to the brim with unique worlds and vibrant lifestyles. Jessa and Finn quickly found their way into my heart and the compelling characters didn't even stop there. I'm eagerly anticipating what's next and definitely recommend this to scifi and fantasy fans. Hopefully you'll love it just as much as I did!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me a digital ARC of “Traveler” by L.E. DeLano. I was impressed by the writing style. In my opinion time travel is not an easy topic because there are so many possibilities, therefore the story must have a great deal of imagination. If a book with time travel is missing imagination than it will fall flat. There was a great deal of imagination in it and also enough originality that I didn’t feel I was reading another copy of all the other masses of time travel novels out there. My only issue is that time travel seems to be a popular topic at the moment which means this book may get less notice since it is only coming out in paperback. Although, if anyone enjoys time travel then this book should definitely be added to their “to-read” list.

Traveler by L.E. DeLano
Book One of the Traveler series
Publisher: Swoon Reads
Publication Date: February 7, 2017
Rating: 2 stars
Source: ARC sent by the publisher

Summary (from Goodreads):

Jessa has spent her life dreaming of other worlds and writing down stories more interesting than her own, until the day her favorite character, Finn, suddenly shows up and invites her out for coffee. After the requisite nervous breakdown, Jessa learns that she and Finn are Travelers, born with the ability to slide through reflections and dreams into alternate realities. But it’s not all steampunk pirates and fantasy lifestyles…Jessa is dying over and over again, in every reality, and Finn is determined that this time, he’s going to stop it… this Jessa is going to live.

What I Liked:

I'm pretty upset about not liking this book. Actually, I've just finished the book and I'm very irritated, but I'm also upset that I didn't like it (and I blame the book, not myself). I see the appeal? I get it? Really it was the last quarter of the book that made me want to throw it across the room.

I received a galley of this book unsolicited from the publisher (and this did not affect my opinion in any way - clearly). I wasn't even going to read the book (because it was sent unsolicited, and I'd not heard of it before), but several bloggers convinced me that I would love it. I didn't (obviously).

Jessa has always had a wild and colorful imagination. She comes up with stories and writes them. Lately, her stories have been filled with a green-eyed boy who is always with her - right before she dies of some way. One day she looks up from a mundane task and he is real, and in front of her. It turns out, she and Finn (green eyes) are Travelers, and that all of those stories she came up with are actually memories from other versions of herself. What's more, all of those times Jessa imagined herself dying truly happened - those versions of herself, in other "realities", were killed. Finn is here to help with learn to Travel, and to figure out who is trying to kill her.

This book started off REALLY well. In fact, like I said, I was doing great until about the three-quarter mark. This is a neat concept and a cute story.

The idea is that there are multiple realities, and that Jessa is living in one, but there are other realities and other versions of her out there. They are all "her", but since the other realities are different, so are those other Jessa's. Same with Finn - he is Finn in every reality, but slightly different. Every time Jessa travels, she gets the memories of that Jessa, and the Jessa that switches gets her memories. I don't think I've read anything quite like that! Switching with another version of yourself to travel to that version's "reality" is so bizarre and neat.

I liked Jessa, and was cool with her for most of the book. She's funny and smart, a good student and a good sister. She is so cautious when she first meets Finn, because she doesn't believe him. But once Jessa catches on, she gets into Travel and likes it. Her favorite "reality" is a historical one, in which she is an heiress and she meets a pirate Finn. She really likes that Finn.

The "real" Finn that we know in this original reality is a charming, sweet guy. He's also a bit protective and a little bossy, but he's a good guy. I liked him and I thought he and Jessa fit well together, as a pair. They have quite a history together - in other realities.

I cruised through this book, and was really enjoying myself! Everything started to fall apart at a certain point and I really can't bring myself to have an overall positive outlook on this book. See the next section!

What I Did Not Like:

Two big things had my opinion doing a one-eighty: the romance, and the ending.

Now, the romance is actually supposed to be really straightforward. We have Jessa, and we have Finn. They pretty much have an instant connection, which makes sense, because other versions of themselves have fallen for each other in other realities (not that feelings in one reality affect other realities). Jessa falls for Finn and only Finn... the Jessa of the original reality.

It gets weird because Jessa Travels and switches with another Jessa. This other Jessa comes from a reality in which she's dating a guy who is original Jessa's best friend Ben. In the original reality, Ben has feelings for Jessa. SO, what do you think happens when Jessa goes into "other Jessa"'s reality, and "other Jessa" goes into "original Jessa"'s reality? Other Jessa makes out with Ben and it gets heavy. When our original Jessa comes back... she realizes that Ben thinks she's in love with him, blah blah blah.

This... this is a mess. It's such a mess and it's not even a love triangle? BUT IT IS, because technically that "other Jessa" IS "original Jessa"! They're different versions of Jessa, but they're all Jessa. "Original Jessa" has feelings only for Finn but she has all of the other Jessa's memories, including this "other Jessa" that dates Ben in the "other Jessa reality". And of course, what "other Jessa" does in the "original reality", "original Jessa" will know. UGH! This is so frustrating! Poor Ben! I feel terrible for him because it's not even Jessa that tells him she loves him (YES, THIS HAPPENS). It's "other Jessa" who is dating Ben back in her reality! AHHHHH! NO.

Messy, right? Love triangle but NOT a love triangle. Eventually, our original Jessa has to spill all the beans and tell Ben everything (including the part about another Jessa kissing him, and not actually her). But that doesn't happen for a while. Blech.

The other thing that killed this book for me was the ending. I know, I know, this series isn't over. But the ending is extremely heartbreaking and extremely permanent. I know the author drops a ton of hints in the story involving Jessa's favorite version of Finn, the pirate, but I'm not a happy camper with the ending. It was cruel and I'm not sure it really made sense to end the story that way... but what do I know.

Another smaller thing that I wasn't amused with was the lack of conflict? It felt like the book had no direction, for a while. Doesn't it sound intriguing that Jessa keeps dying over and over? Well, we never get to see or experience one of those deaths. Which makes sense, because if Jessa died, that would be bad for the story. But I thought that the whole death thing would be a little more pressing? OH and would you believe that a prophecy pops up in this book? And that Jessa is quite the special snowflake? I rolled my eyes so hard when I read this cheesy, cliche plot device. So random, so cliche, and so underdeveloped (in this story).

And for the record, pirates and ships don't appear nearly as many times as I was led to believe. A ship really shouldn't be on the cover, because it's not a good metaphor and actual ships appear, like, once or twice.

Honestly, I regret reading this book. I wasted my time. It was an unsolicited galley and I should have just skipped it and passed it along.

Would I Recommend It:

I personally don't recommend it but sooo many others have enjoyed this book, so if you're looking forward to reading it, give it a shot. If you'd never heard of it before, keep living your life. Like I said above, I'd been enjoying this book immensely, until about the three-quarter mark. It was really great! And then it took a huge nosedive (for me). I do not recommend the book, especially if you're like me and want HEAs and linear romances.

Rating:

2 stars. I regret the decision to read this book. I'm not going to give it 1 star because I enjoyed more than half of the book. But trust me friends, one thing is enough to make a person want to throw the book at a wall (in this case, two things). I tried with this one, I really did!

As soon as I saw the phrase “alternate realities,” I knew I had to read Traveler. While this book did have some faults, it was a quick and fun read and I loved the premise.

One of the main flaws of this book for me was that it felt more as if each Jessa/Finn were their own character because of the fact that Travelers essentially body-switch. While I do understand that they are essentially the same soul just in an alternate reality, the experiences and relationships are different enough that it didn’t really make sense to me how one Jessa or one Finn is seemingly interchangeable with another. While I do like the concept of soul-mates, it seems as if would only be applicable in each reality. (There’s a strong possibility that I’m overthinking this).

The characters were all interesting. I particularly loved Jessa’s family and her relationship with them. The moments she spends with them really grounded the book and were incredibly touching. I wasn’t a huge fan of the love triangle with Finn and Ben because Jessa didn’t seem to have any romantic feelings for Ben until Finn showed up in their lives. Separated from the love triangle, I think that both of them are great characters. Although I must admit that Pirate Finn was probably my favorite.

As for the plot, it was a fast-paced, action-packed ride. There were a few twists that I definitely didn’t see coming. After the ending, I’m definitely going to read the next book because a few unexpected things happened that left me very curious. Overall, this was a very enjoyable and engaging read.

I loved this book. I loved this book so much I read it from start to finish in 2 days and finished it at 5 a.m. and I need to sequel NOW!

Right, so basically this book is about Jessa St.Clair who has a vivid imagination and dreams, writes stories about the things she dreams and one day sees that the guy of her dreams (literally) is in the real world looking at her. Safe to say she was a bit freaked and totally hesitant to hear him out. I was totally on board with this book when I thought it was about fictional characters coming to life, but when I found out what was REALLY going on? Yeah, I was completely hooked.

Without giving away too much this story is about how Finn, Jessa's not so fictional dream boy, is in her world to save her from an unknown enemy. They have this amazing ability to travel between realities with the task to change things there to make something else happen, but they also use the ability to cruise around and just live different lives. Totally cool and definitely something I'd be down to try. Also, there is a very slight love triangle between Jessa-Finn-and-Ben, but it's kind of also not there since the love triangle only exists in different realities and then...well, you'll have to read to figure it out.

Anyway, this book hooked me from the first sentence because it was immediate action that definitely caught my attention and kept it up until the last page. There is definite suspense, some romance, strong females and just an all around adventure through different possibilities.

Another thing I really love about this book is that Jessa's older brother has autism and through this book the author explores how one has a relationship with someone with it, but it also presents the observation that science doesn't exactly know what causes it. How is this accomplished? Well, pretty simply since through travelling to different realities where in some her brother doesn't have autism and in others he has a different form. I personally thought it was really interesting.

Another thing I really liked is that even though Jessa traveled to different realities with different forms of herself, she is essentially the same, which to me was interesting because don't we all wonder who we are on a universal level? Like, doesn't everyone wonder what they would be like if they had been born in a different time or in a more dangerous world? It was kind of nice to me to have this idea that no matter what the outside circumstances, our core personality traits would be the same. I love that. I also loved meeting a certain Finn version *wink wink*.

The thing that is really fun about this story is that you don't know who is hunting Jessa until a few chapters from the end and you don't fin out WHY until the late middle. I love books that don't throw the villian(s) in my face and take away the mystery and I really love a story that keeps me guessing the entire time. I love that this story kept me curious and interested until the end, I love that I didn't suspect anything until the proof was thrown in my face.

I really loved this book, I really love the pace and plot of this story. I love how it is set up for a sequel in a way that has me CRAVING it now but also kind of content with where the story left off. I love this story and can't wait till the sequel comes out so I can lose sleep over it!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend everyone pick it up when it comes out! Seriously, put it on your TBR list and get ready for an amazing ride!

I originally put this on my kindle thinking it would be an alright way to spend a weekend. YA isn't my most favorite genre, though I do occasionally read and enjoy it, so I figured why not. Turns out my "alright" time would include an afternoon and then an entire evening and a bit of the next morning. I couldn't put Traveler down. I was hooked after the prologue & I absolutely had to know what was going to happen to Jessa and Finn. L.E. DeLano does an awesome job of avoiding the typical Mary Sue YA heroine in Jessa. She makes her real-- I would be friends with her (and go toe to toe on our nerd knowledge). And Finn and his variations, don't get me started. He checks off all the hero boxes-- cute, dashing, occasionally a pirate, sensitive-- basically the perfect guy.
A bit sci-fi, a little fantasy, a heap of romance, this book gets 5 stars from me & a guaranteed promise to recommend it at my library. The first book hasn't officially come out yet & I'm already looking forward to the sequel.
