Received an ARC for an honest review.

Having not read the early books in the series, I was worried I would be lost. Though it started in the middle, I was actually able to catch on very quickly and grasp what was going on, which I really appreciated. This is a quick read with a lot of heat. It wraps up a little quickly for my liking - I would have preferred a bit more about what happened after the climax. Also, in case it's not listed elsewhere, the book does contain breeding. I know that's not for everyone.

For Maggie's Sake is a second chance novel by Lora Leigh. The story follows Maggie and Joe. Joe is a cop and Maggie is brought in for questioning. Her now dead husband left evidence behind for a case and Joe and his team are trying to solve this case and prove that Maggie is innocent. Joe's people know that Maggie is not guilty and that she will end up dead if she leaves the station alone, so Joe is appointed as her guardian.

I was a little thrown off by the fact that Maggie married another man. I would have expected her to wait a bit longer before marrying another man. I didn't like what Joe did and lead to his separation with Maggie. The story was way too short for me to get attached to the characters or the story in general, but it was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. It wasn't an overly angsty book considering how things ended 2.5 years ago. It was a quick and easy read.

An Enjoyable sexy read, Approx 100 page romantic suspense novella and you don't need to have read the others in the series

Maggie has obviously made some questionable choices in her life. I say obviously because she is being drilled by a detective while the DEA watch on. Clearly, something is not right.

The authorities think she has been in league with a cartel. Her own husband blames her, but yes dead so...yeah, no arguing that one.

So was the bad decision helping her husband or marrying him? Which side do you think she's on?

For Maggie's Sake, I hope you picked the right one. It's a fun story. I love protection details that have a naughty flair. It doesn't hurt that he is the one who got away...or is she?

Lora Leigh does not disappoint with her newest book, For Maggie's Sake! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Look, I'm going to be honest with you, I give almost any Lora Leigh book 5 stars for erotic content. The stories are usually more on the 2-3 star side but when I roll it all together, I come out with 4 stars. This book I thought was particularly deserving of the higher rating because I really enjoyed the mystery/suspense aspect that was interwoven into the plot.

Joe is a DEA Agent, Maggie is his ex-lover who married his best friend and partner. When the book opens, Joe is watching Maggie be interrogated. Maggie has been implicated is some drug cartel thing. Here's the kicker, she was implicated by her husband, Joe's former partner/best friend and dead scum bag. Joe wants to believe that the woman he used to be close to and still can't get out of his system would never do the things she is accused of doing but the bottom line is that Joe doesn't really trust anyone. And that also kind of explains why Joe and Maggies relationship didn't work out on the first go round.

Maggie is in danger because whether or not she was involved in the drug business, everybody thinks she was and everybody thinks she knows where her dead husband hid something (drugs or money or something, I can't recall at the moment). Joe, being the upstanding DEA agent he is, volunteers to take Maggie into kind of a bootleg witness protection program where he is going to protect her. Now at first, I was like ok, Maggs is kinda a slut bag for marrying her exes best friend. We find out pretty quickly that is totally not what it seems. Joe's former friend basically tricked Maggie into marrying him. From that point on, the marriage was not real and Maggie had been miserable.

As for Joe, he's kind of a jerk to Maggie. He vacillates as to whether to believe she is innocent and when he is not doing that he is making inappropriate comments and trying to get her in bed. Apparently Joe's investigative strategy was to use his intimate knowledge of Maggie to get her to "open up to him" literally and figuratively. Joe believes that Maggie knows something about her ex husband even if she is not consciously aware of knowing it. Right from the beginning, the chemistry between these two is sizziling hot. Maggie tries to deny her feelings because the way things ended between her and Joe was not cool but it's difficult to really deny what is obvious. I wanted these two together and I enjoyed the super fast pace of this pretty short book. I just felt like Maggie was a little weak and Joe was a little pushy. I still think this book is highly entertaining, sexy and a fun read. This is something that should add a little spice to your holiday season.

I enjoyed this book. I wish it had been longer story. With it being so short, the story seemed rushed and I really would have liked more details to be given. Other than that, it was a gook story with some suspense.

The hero in the story, Joe Merino, is a DEA agent. His best friend and fellow agent is dead and the friend's wife has been brought in for questioning for any knowledge of her husband's involvement with a drug cartel. Maggie's husband implicated that she was involved with some unsavory doings. And- she is Joe's ex-lover.
This is a novella and it's fast-paced and intense. Joe has his doubts that Maggie was involved and nobody is making a breakthrough with her. It's decided that he will take Maggie to a safe house and maybe Joe will get through to her. He has the best shot of wearing Maggie down even if he has to use their former involvement to do it.
The cartel story isn't the important thing here. Deep down Joe knows that Maggie is innocent. The relationship between the two characters is the focus and what went wrong with it 2 and a half years ago. Communicating in bed was never their problem, it was communicating in the real world that broke them up. Enter a manipulative and resentful friend bent on betrayal blindsiding Joe and using Maggie to do it. As they spend more time together, they put the pieces together on their break-up and if they can mend what was broken. The scenes in the bedroom prove that there is still a spark, make that an inferno, that author Lora Leigh writes so well.
When I started reading the story, I didn't realize that it was a novella previously released in 2007 in an anthology, REAL MEN DO IT BETTER. That was nine years ago and the story still holds up nearly a decade later. Now, FOR MAGGIE'S SAKE is being released in e-book December 13th. Fans of sexy romantic suspense will enjoy this one.

When I was offered the opportunity to read this book, I thought it was a totally new story. When it is Ms. Leigh and there are military men involved, I want to read it. To my chagrin, this is story from an anthology I've read previously. I did not enjoy this story the first time around and the second time was still lackluster.

I am a huge fan of Ms. Leigh. This one felt contrived and forced. Usually her characters are flawed yet admirable. Usually they are not too stupid to live. Maggie specifically is a TSTL character. She is taken for a ride by her husband. Now, dead husband. How she never connects that her husband's best friend was her former lover she never really got over, I will never understand. The set up of this story is off and not one of the best from Ms. Leigh. The pace is slow at times yet the plot feels rushed. It all felt a little off kilter for me which is unexpected from Ms. Leigh.

Whilst Joe still comes across as a tortured lover who let the "one" slip through his fingers, Maggie is still clueless. It is surprising Maggie isn't dead with how oblivious she is to her life. Since I tend to enjoy stories if I like a character, this one ended up as okay for me. I could not get into the story because I could not get over Maggie. This short erotica is recommended to romance reader who like lovers reunited themes.

Short sweet and sexy. Just the way I like my alpha men. I'll admit I've put Lora Leigh on a pedestal. She can do no wrong, and the sexy little re-print proves just that. For Maggie's Sake packs an unexpected and thrilling punch. How Ms. Leigh can put a full story and developed characters, love story, and a-class sex scenes is beyond, but she accomplished that and so much more in this book! It's truly a wonderfully outstanding read!

Let me start by admitting to a long-term love affair with Lora Leigh's books. I thought I'd read them all, but was surprised when I realized that For Maggie's Sake was previously published as part of a 2007 anthology that I somehow missed, and while I liked it, I didn't love it, and could only give it 3 stars.

When we meet the heroine, recently widowed Maggie Samuels, she's being grilled by detectives, one of whom was her husband's best friend, Detective Joe Merino. Her late husband, Grant, was a dirty cop, working for the Fuentes crime organization, a group that kidnapped, rape and tortured women as part of their involvement in human sex trafficking. No one was more surprised about Grant than Joe. The Fuentes believe that Grant kept records of their activities, they believe that Maggie knows where they are, as do the police, and Maggie hasn't a clue about any of this, but her protestations fall on deaf ears.

Two years earlier, she was seeing Joe and in love with him, but felt betrayed when he arrived at a party with another woman on his arm. Hurt and shocked, she ended their relationship and tried to move on but did so with Joe's best friend, Grant, marrying him and regretting it almost instantly. Joe loved her but she didn't want to hear any of his explanations or excuses. Now, although Joe still loves and wants her, he is tasked with keeping her safe from the Fuentes and with finding Grant's evidence against them before they find, torture and kill Maggie for the information. Since Maggie has a price on her head, Joe takes her to a safe house, hoping to keep her alive and jog her memory to see if she really does know more about Grant's activities than she claims.

If you've read any of Ms. Leigh's books before, you know that two former lovers alone in a safe house, neither quite trusting the other, is going to lead to some seriously hot sex, and Ms. Leigh certainly doesn't disappoint as the volatile relationship between Maggie and Joe ramps up. That said, we come to the reason for my 3-star rating, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the heat in this novel and everything to do with the plot, which stagnates while these two characters can't seem to keep their hands off one another, nor is there much in the way of character development. The action and suspense this reader was waiting for didn't happen until much later in the novel, and when it finally did appear, it really didn't seem all that suspenseful or dramatic.

Compared to her previous work, this short novel was not Lora Leigh at her best. It was a good read, rather than a great one, and while it held my interest to some degree, I really wasn't particularly moved by or emotionally engaged in the love story between Maggie and Joe or the mystery of Grant's missing evidence.

For Maggie's Sake is the story of Maggie and Joe. This novella is a second chance romance and it is very entertaining! Joe had once been married but his experience was horrible. His exwife cheated on him and later she died with her boyfriend. This changed him forever so when he met Maggie he didn't give the relationship a real chance. Now, there is a lot of action and suspense and Maggie and Joe will try to have their second chance at love!

Another great story by Lora Leigh!!

Maggie is in protective custody with a hottie name Joe...why? It seems she married the wrong kind of man who gets killed and apparently had secrets that someone thinks Maggie knows. She dated Joe once and when they broke up and she married Grant. That was hard on Joe, because 1) he has serious trust issues after what his ex-wife put him through and 2) he still has feelings for Maggie. Joe's intentions are to seduce her and get the information he needs that he thinks she knows about Grant. How's that work for him? Can he do that to her? Or will he fall back in love with her?

Great story! Loved the scenario and the characters! I was cheering for Maggie and Joe!!

Thanks to St. Martins Press via NetGalley for a copy of this book!

As always, Lora Leigh books don't let you down for the sizzle factor and in the end this was a good read.

However, I personally hate how the Joe and Maggie messed about and both married other people before getting their heads out and getting together. Really don't care for all the info about the other people in their lives.

Not my favorite but a solid read although it is a shorter read for sure.

Maggie’s late husband was discovered to be working for a crime lord. His best friend and Maggie’s former lover, Joe Merino, thinks she might have been helping him and he’ll do anything to find out the truth.
This was a quick and hot read. I really enjoyed it. For not being very long, the characters were well written. We get a full story. I highly enjoyed it.

This is a quick read but the author packs a lot into those pages. The characters were fantastic and I fell in love with them from the start. I cant wait for more fro this author in the future.

Highly recommended

Maggie Chavez is in protective custody because she made the mistake of marrying the wrong man after her break up with Joe. Maggie knows that everyone believes that she knows what her husband was up to before his death but she didn't and there is only one person who may believe her... Joe

Joe regrets everyday that he let Maggie walk away. Although he doesn't want to believe she was a part of what her previous husband aka his ex-best friend was up to, he has to get as much information as he can to prove her innocence...or her guilt.

The real question is can Joe figure out what is going on before Maggie finds out he's using every trick in his tool box to get the information he needs? Read and find out!

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reviewers copy of this book.

This book was short and super spicy. Joe and Maggie were a very interesting couple. Joe obviously has a job to do and it has affected his love life in a big way. Maggie is loveable because I understand her. She wanted her man and decided that if he wasn't going to give her what she needed that she would move on to someone else. Unfortunately for her she ends up jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Overall this book was short, sexy, and packed with so much heat and emotion it will blow your socks off. Great job Lora Leigh
