Though I tried a couple of times, this one did not flow well for me, I'm afraid. I think it may be because something near the beginning had me puzzled and yanked me out of the story. I am not a big fan of murder mystery/suspense and it takes a lot to keep me interested.

Uncovering secrets is firmly in the wheelhouse of FBI Special Agent, Tori Templeton, but uncovering those secrets when investigating the murder of her best friend's husband takes a special kind of grit. Business tycoon Nathan Moore's pacemaker is hacked shortly after one of his oil platforms is bombed. Coincidence, or conspiracy? As far as Tori knows, Nathan was a loving husband, and father to her best friend, Sally, and their boys. Who could have wanted him dead badly enough to kill him?
Cole Jeffers has been a friend of Nathan's for years, spending almost as much time in their home as Tori did, but almost always at different times. A landscaper by profession, no one knows that he is on leave from the US Marshals Service. When Nathan dies, Cole gets a call from Nathan and Sally's oldest son, asking him to come. Is Lance right in his belief that his father wasn't the man they all thought he was?
The longer Tori investigates, the more deceit she finds. When the Marshals reinstate Cole and assign him to help investigate the murder, she's not sure whether to welcome him to the team, or tell him to take a hike. Can they work together to uncover the murderer before he takes them out, too?
DiAnn Mills writes some of the most gripping romantic suspense in the Christian realm. Deep Extraction is no exception. I had no idea who the mastermind was until the reveal at the end - or I should say, until he was fully introduced at the end. There were hints throughout, but the final reveal brought him/her into the open.
I can definitely recommend Deep Extraction, and really, anything Mills writes. I haven't read a bad one yet.

Deep Extraction is my favorite of DiAnn Mills' FBI Task Force series. Hands down. The FBI tasks Special Agent Tori Templeton to investigate a suspicious death. Her friend's husband, Nathan Moore, had a heart attack, his pacemaker failing. She's determined to support her friend but also to stay objective. Emotions can distract her...and so can her unacknowledged hypochondria. Her partner sounds like he's hacking up a lung every time he breathes. Two of her relatives have died of cancer; the "big C" looms at the back of her mind. God didn't save her brother, who strongly believed in Him. But that's besides the point--she has a crime to investigate.
In walks Cole Jeffers. A US Marshal-turned landscaper, he brushes off his badge to find out what happened to his friend. He and Tori must work together through the twists and turns of the investigation. On the surface, Nathan Moore seemed like a good man. He donated to charity and volunteered. Tori and Cole quickly discover that not everything is how it seems. The FBI pinpoints the wife as the main suspect, especially with the discovery of marital problems. Both Tori and Cole, though, believe in her innocence.
I could read Deep Extraction by DiAnn Mills four or five times and learn new things every time. DiAnn Mills is a mastermind. I'm convinced. She packs so much depth into every character that they almost weren't fictional to me. I saw them as real people--like I met them at a coffee shop to interview them for a news story. Each meeting resulted in more information--about who they were. How their beliefs and pasts affected their work. Their hopes and fears.
Cole and Tori's relationship developed naturally throughout the course of the novel. I loved that, and how the characters grew. All of them. So many novels' characters are flat--like a flat-line on a heart rate monitor. In Deep Extraction, though, everyone's heartbeat strengthens as the novel progresses. While the plot is great, the characters' changes--all for the better--really help to build the book into the wonderful piece of literature it is.
DiAnn Mills explores difficult topics like cancer. How God can let people suffer and die. Infidelities. Incorrigible teenagers, struggling with anger, betrayal, and heartbreak. When I closed the final page of Deep Extraction, I didn't want it to be over. When it comes to novels, I'm a hard person to please, but DiAnn Mills blew this one out of the water. She truly outdid herself with this one. I shove many books in my closet, never to pick them up again. But this one? Heart-racing, mind-bending, suspenseful, and thought-provoking, Deep Extraction will have a prominent place on my shelf to be picked up again and again. I will definitely be recommending this one to my friends...if I don't literally throw the book at them first!

I absolutely love DiAnn Mills work, and Deep Extraction is no exception! Great read with fascinating twists and turns as part of the medical world.

Another great read from Diann Mills. I am enjoying this series. Can't wait to read the next book.

Fast paced, gripping until the very last page! I love Ms Mills books but this one I think is my favorite of all time.

This was a great suspense/mystery. There were times when I thought I had it figured out but Mills always kept me in the dark.
Overall I liked the book but it moved kind of slow for me. I can't put my finger on why either. But I really did like the story and the characters. I liked the oil background setting because it was unique. I also liked the US Marshall partnering with the FBI for a unique spin on things.
Of course a little romance sprinkled in didn't hurt anything either. And I liked the spiritual growth in the book too.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion.

I always look forward to DIann Mills novels...Love her storytelling/mystery/and realism. This one has it all!!!

While Houston FBI Agent Tori Templeton visits her brother’s grave, she received a call to go investigate a possible homicide. She is very distressed when she finds out it that it is a long-time friend of hers, Nathan Moore owner of Moore Oil. Nathan leaves a wife, Sally and two sons. When she arrives at the house, she learns disturbing things about the days leading up to Nathan’s death. Tori, also, finds out there is another friend of family at the house, named Cole who owned a landscape company. Tori wasn’t aware that he was former US Marshall. As they facts unfold they found Nathan had threats on his life, had argued and said hurtful words to Sally and had asked for a divorce..And now he was dead.
These facts caused the investigators there to question the wife and made Tori and Cole ask themselves if they really knew Nathan at all.
Together they set up to find out who killed Nathan. And along the way they struggled to stay professional in spite of their growing affection for each other.
This was a wonderful, hard to put down, hate to see it end book. It made me go back and read other books from this author.

DiAnn Mills has created another romantic suspense novel that will keep you turning pages and reading late into the night. DiAnn doesn't waste anytime, she just dives right into the action, but also introduces the characters' right away. The reader meets Tori, a FBI Special Agent in the first chapter, at a cemetery visiting her brothers' grave. With this visit, I learned that she was close to her brother, is questioning God and doesn't have faith that prayer works, and is a kind and compassionate person. Then in the next second Tori is in Agent mode and handling a difficult call that involves someone she has known for years. In the next chapter the reader is introduced to Cole, a Deputy US Marshal, and also the family of a deceased man whom seemingly had everything life could offer, but someone wanted him dead.
I loved how this book flowed so nicely, the action and romance were intertwined, and the suspense kept me completely engrossed in the book and wanting to keep turning the pages. DiAnn's books are also so well-written and so believable that it is scary that this could actual happen in real-life. I highly recommend this book and series from DiAnn as book #1 "Deadly Encounter" is another winner!

Romance, mystery, Christian faith elements, Clean
This was an interesting read. Definitely complex and lots of details. I will say at the very beginning, I couldn't quite suspend my disbelief that the two agents who were friends with the family and wife who initially was a murder suspect would be working the case. However, once the novel got going, Tori, Cole, and Max all were great characters, and loved how the case unfolded. Definitely suspenseful, and lots of intense moments. All the side characters contributed nicely to the story and how the mystery unfolded in unusual ways. Lots of moments that made me want to keep turning pages. That being said, I also had one other qualm (sorry, a bit nit picky here), Cole and Tori seemed to bounce back a little too quickly from one hospital incident. Seemed at the end that the aches and pains were gone a little too soon??
With all of that, it was also fun to see how they gradually fell for each other and some of the moments that opened their hearts in the stress of their jobs, brought them together. They were great characters, with some good redeeming qualities that made for a great read. Perhaps more of a 3.5 because of the doubts and suspending the disbelief, but definitely rounding up for the quality of the mystery and the strength of the main characters thoughts, actions and interactions on the written page. You definitely could see their thought, and know where they were heading, wondering, and could 'see'/read the story really unfold. Great overall read, and I am definitely going to check the other book out in the series.
I received a copy from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for a fair and honest review, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another great book by DiAnn Mills. A lot of twists and turns is this story kept me guessing from page 1 till the very end of the book

This is book two in the FBI Task Force series, however it is a stand alone book. If you enjoy FBI type, suspenseful, mysterious with a dash of romance you will love this book. DiAnn Mills has a great way of developing her character and keeping your interest while adding mystery, suspense and drama all in one. There are many twist and turns in this novel and will keep you guessing.
Tori Templeton is more than just a beautiful face, she has a heart of gold and loves her job as an FBI agent. When tragedy strikes her best friend will she be able to put aside her feelings and solve the murder no matter what may come? When tasked to work with the handsome US Marshal will they be able to solve all the crimes that seems to be tied together while staying alive.
This would make a great movie. I look forward to reading more from this series. I loved the chemistry between Tori and Cole.

I don't know. I'm probably a little alone in this, and maybe because I wasn't in the mood for this book, but it didn't really seem up to Mills usual standard. I found it hard to follow. The writing just wasn't smooth and seemless. A lot of it was a little confusing. There was a lot going on, and sometimes that is really great, but it just didn't....mesh. Maybe it was the content. I don't love stories about affairs and cheating spouses. Maybe it was because I didn't really love any of the characters. Tori and Cole weren't anything that stick with you and make you want to pretend you could be just like them. Normally a book like this will grab me and pull me in and I'll read it late into the night, but I took days to finish this. I had no problems putting it down and picking up something else.
It's book two in the series, and I don't remember reading book one so I can't say if any of the characters cross over or anything like that. I wasn't lost, and it didn't seem like a series so it could definitely be read as a standalone.
It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting or wanting. I won't be rereading this, but I will keep trying this author since I like her other stuff.

I seem to be on a fiction kick lately. Maybe because it's my escape. Or maybe it's because I realize I need to spend some time being overtaken by the power of a story. In reality, it's probably a little bit of both. Deep Extraction by DiAnn Mills fit the bill of a story to escape in that showed me the power of a story.
I quickly devoured the first book in the FBI Task Force series - Deadly Encounter so that I could start Deep Extraction. Little did I know, I didn't need to read the first book first. Each story can stand alone. Each book in the series is built around an FBI task force and shares the story of how the agencies work together to solve a crime.
Deep Extraction shares the story of Tori Templeton, FBI Agent, as she teams up with Cole Jeffers, US Marshall. Together, Tori and Cole team up with Tori's partner Max. They work to solve the crime of a man they thought they knew.
Oil and gas magnet, Nathan Moore has been murdered by someone hacking his pacemaker. Though Tori and Cole are both longtime friends with Moore, they soon learn several startling and disappointing things about this man they once held in high regard.
Throughout the story, you are kept in suspense. The truth of what really caused the crime is a mystery you won't likely solve yourself. Though I caught glimpses and had begun to ask questions in the last quarter of the book, the final story only unraveled in the final chapters of the book as it wrapped up.
I loved the character development in this story. Both Tori and Cole had pain from their past to work through, as well as struggles through their current case. In Deep Extraction, you find realistic glimpses of what it looks like to work through some serious pains and questions.
This was a great read! I loved getting lost in Tori and Cole's story. Working to solve the crime was fun too.

This book kept me engaged right from the beginning. I was able to relate to the characters and understand the things they were going though in the whole of the book. The author drew me into their lives with the descriptions and detail, which were enough to capture my attention.

Deep Extraction is a great combination of suspense and romance. It truely keeps you on the edge of your seat. Add to that, the mystery of who is behind the murders, bombings, and threats and you have the best of reads by Diann Mills.
The story opens with both our heroine and hero getting calls to come to their friend's aid as her husband has been found dead and it appears to be murder. Again, I found this made the book most fascinating in that it is told from the perspective of Tori Templeton, FBI agent, Cole Jeffers, U. S. Marshall, and another individual who may or may not be the murderer.
Anyway, Nathan Moore is dead, apparently from a heart attack caused by the digital tampering of his pacemaker and the key suspect is his wife; however, other key persons are added with positive motives i.e. a son and mistress. The case is complicated as Nathan Moore had been the target of environmentalists who have already bombed his oil rig and sent multiple threats on his life and that of his family.
Our agents are having trouble staying ahead of the murderer or murderers and quickly become targets themselves. Tori suffers from a fear of cancer having had multiple family members affected, Cole who was the yard man (on leave U.S Marshall) suffers from PTSD having been wounded badly in a case gone wrong, finally, Tori's partner is dying from lung cancer.
There are so many facets to this story that make it a page turner including the attraction of the key protagonists which is evident from the beginning making you root for a romance to develop and succeed.
This is a 5 star read. I received this ecopy from Netgalley for my honest review.

Special agent Tori Templeton is called to a close friends house to investigate the murder of the woman's husband. Tori's partner Max is less than professional when questioning the family and Tori is furious with him. Max has cancer and Tori has had enough of cancer in her life. Years before her brother lost his battle of cancer and more recently her mother has battled breast cancer. Tori is petrified that she or someone else close to her will be next. Tori promised her brother before he died that she would search out and find her faith in God. Tori has been attending church, but she can't justify a God who allows sickness to take people away. God keeps putting people in Tori's life to show her His love for her.
Cole Jeffers was best friends with the man murdered. Cole currently has a thriving landscape business but his heart lies with his career as a US Marshal. Cole is on a leave of absence but is willing to step back into his role as US Marshal when his friend is murdered.
Tori, Cole and Max are on the task force to find out who the murderer is. As they begin to investigate they find that the man they knew was not the man they thought he was. The more suspects they come across, the more danger their own lives are in. Can they find the madman set on ending their lives as well?
I was hooked on DEEP EXTRACTION from the very beginning! The mystery was great, the suspense was thrilling and the romance was sweet. The story moved quickly and was very exciting. There were so many layers and so many suspects! I loved the personal stories of the main characters. Max's struggle with cancer, his anger and crustiness, Cole's faith but also struggle to forgive and Tori's honest desire to find faith but yet having serious doubts. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story!

This review is posted on my blog, Amazon, Goodreads and all reviews are posted on my facebook page.

Let me tell you why I wanted to read this book before I tell you what I thought about it. If you know me at all then you are aware of my sudden cardiac death the week before my 28th birthday. If you don't know me then you might want to read a little to catch up. When I saw that the victim was killed by a someone hacking into his pacemaker and jacking with it. It immediately peaked my curiosity since I have a defibrillator. Actually, what the what is what went through my mind.
A Pacemaker Hacker? Is there really such a thing!?
Now, let's get to my thoughts on this title.
Deep Extraction is the second book in the FBI Task Force series, and here again I have read the series out of order. I do not know what has gotten into me. But, I am glad to tel you that the first book in this series is Deadly Encounter and both can stand alone just fine. You do not have to read these in the correct order. Just be a rebel, like me. :)
I'm a sucker for police-type dramas, books and television, and the more action, details, suspense and twists, the better. I am also a Christian, so the mention of prayer and God did not affect me at all. The Christian aspect is minimal. It is not distracting, in your face or pushy, at all. It is approached very realistically. Having a defibrillator (mine has a pacemaker function) and having gone through cancer, I felt I could really relate to this one.
After mentioning all of the above, I am happy to say that this book is all that I have already talked about. Lots of action! Explosions, gun fights, heroes and heroines. There are some feelings in this one as well. It is a very well rounded book! There are a few things that are a bit predictable; one being the little romance that blossoms. I like my police-type dramas to be a little more realistic, and most of it is realistic, but in the real world, friends of a murder victim would not be able to be involved in the investigation. But, it was refreshing to read about friends taking a stand for the victims (their friends). I think they did what many of us would try to do, and that is do whatever they had to do to find the killer.
Diann Mills is one author that I plan to read every book she comes out with. I like her writing style that much!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tyndale House Publishers for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Deep Extraction by DiAnn Mills dives right into the mystery at hand and keeps you guessing until the very end. The initial murder is actually quite terrifying (hacking into someone’s pacemaker, really?), and the budding romance between FBI Agent Tori Templeton and US Marshall Cole Jeffers is predictable yet sweet. Out of all the characters, I do believe Max is my favorite, belligerence and all.
Deep Extraction is first and foremost a Christian suspense/romance, and it touches on some overarching concepts such as trust and honesty. This story is also about the consequences of betrayal, such as deceiving a spouse and stealing someone’s idea and making millions off of it. Not cool, Nathan Moore!
While Nathan Moore is murdered at the start, Mills does an excellent job of developing his character posthumously. The clues of his murder and other related crimes as well as his multi-layered betrayals are evenly parceled out, building and twisting until the very last page.
Deep Extraction is fast paced and a fun ride. But while you’re dodging bullets and facing danger around every corner, you’ll find supporting stories about being present in one's life and with loved ones and about a father’s determination to save his son’s life at any cost, yet betrayal exists there, too. As you get closer and closer to the end, you will think you have it all figured out, but you’d be wrong. Dead wrong.
