I loved it! I love most of Hannah Howell's book and this one was just as great! The hero and heroine were well-matched and the plot, pace and dialogue were exceptional. I can't wait to read the next one! Great job and keep them coming. I highly recommend to all romance lovers.
Sir Tormand Murray has been set up to be branded a murderer. To stop the murderers and clear himself, he’s sought the help of Morainn Ross, a reclusive woman with the gift of second sight. Tormand is the first man that Morainn has met that has accepted her strange gift.
This was a good story. This author does a great job of weaving a tale, usually between two specific families, and also including a bit of mysticism in it to give it that extra twist. I recommend.
Highland Sinner by Hannah Howell is #16 in her fascinating "Murray Family" series, but can be read as a stand alone.
This is the story of Sir Tormand Murray, a rogue, who is being hunted for killings he did not commit. Whoever, is committing these crimes is out to have Tormand hanged. And, Morainn Ross, branded as a witch, a recluse with the gift of second sight. She and Tormand become instantly attracted after a horrific scene of a terrible crime. What they find together is danger, passon and strength. But will they be able to save each other from the rage, revenge and slight of another, from the one who is causing such distress and destruction to the village. Killing women who may have been one of Tormand's lovers in horrific deaths, by torture and destroying their beautiful faces and souls. But who could be causing such maliciousness and death throughout this small village.
Easy to read, fast paced, heart-pounding story of secrets, twists and turns, treachery, betrayal and love. Hannah Howell is well known for her Scottish Romance, her vivid descriptions, her captivating characters and her intriguing storyline. She never disappoints me and I certainly found "Highland Sinner" a touching story with many surprises and an uplifting ending. An enjoyable and satisfying read!

This is a brilliantly written romantic, dramatic, exciting and amusing story. There is horror and suspense, but there is also laughter and love. Listening to Tormand talk to himself about love and Morainn is hilariously entertaining. He is very adorable even though he is a man slut. Morainn being tough, spunky and sweet is great. The storyline is engrossing and entertaining. The other gentlemen involved provide some comedic relief. This is a must for your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest opinion of it.
Though I had read this book when it was first published, I thoroughly enjoyed it the second time around. No one tells a story full of intrigue and danger as well as Hannah Howell. She is a gifted storyteller, indeed. I look forward to reading and rereading her books. The storylines make it possible still find something new the second or third time around. Of course, the first time through I am usually reading quickly to find out what happens. In the Highland Sinner Tormand Murray, a rogue if there ever was one, finds himself in bed with a former lover who was brutally murdered. He knows he is being set up for the murder. Who is framing him and why? Along the way to finding the answer to that question, he finds Morainn Ross who has the Sight. She knows he is innocent but can her visions help to find the true perpetrator and keep them alive? This book and others by Hannah Howell are the reason why she is one of my very favorite authors. If she wrote it, I will read it. Great reading and rereading.
As much as I cherish my readings of novels written by author, Hannah Howell, I cannot help but feel completely put off by what I discovered in "Highland Sinner." To be reasonable in this review the story itself is a reprint. In truth this is one of the reasons that I agreed to review this book because I love how older romances are written as the stories themselves never miss the important part-the romance.
"Highlander Sinner," was not an exception with the romance as it was present. The chemistry was the heart pulsing, magical experience I hope to uncover in any romances. If there is one thing that Howell does exceptionally well it is write swoon worthy romances.
My main flaw with the book however has to be the actual plot. I was a skeptical with the fact that the hero's former lovers were showing up dead, a few while laying next to him. Add in the fact that his memory was often times failing him regarding any memories of the actual murder and the details made little sense. I think that once you meet Tormand's character you will agree with me as the man himself is rugged, sexy and dangerous with a mystery buried within those flexing muscles of his. I know that he certainly fit my idea of what a hero in a jagged historical-romance should be, but that plot in my opinion needed to be toned down quite a bit.
As far as the heroine goes. I did not care as much for Morainn's character. Apart from her growing romance with Tormand I don't think that Morainn added much depth to the story and I could lived without her character in this story.
Based my own readings from this book there are not enough positives for me to recommend this book.
I love the Murray family that Hannah Howell has created. She has become a staple in highland romances for me.
Tormand Murray has been a scoundrel where women are concerned. He has been friendly with the lasses since he was a teen. When he finds himself in the bed of a murdered lady, he must take a hard look at his life and how he has acted. As woman that he has been involved with keep turning up dead he races to try to find who is trying to get him hung. When everything else fails he finds himself at the door step of Morainn Ross.
Morainn has long been called a witch. She sees things that are to come and she has been dreaming of Tormand for a while. She has also been dreaming about the murders that surround him. As she finds herself drawn into Tormand's world she must try to resist his charm. But as attraction keeps blossoming between them, they find themselves giving in to temptation. Now the killer has set sights on Morainn and Tormand must find a way to save her. Once he saves her, then he will find a way to make her his forever.
Great story, with mystery and intrigue surrounding the murders of Tormand's former lovers. I definitely recommend it.
This is Book 16 in the Murray Family Series. Highland Sinner was an entertaining read. It grabbed my attention and found it very interesting. The book can be read as a standalone.
Tormand Murray, the hero, was a rake. Finally, he got into trouble and someone wanted to frame him as a killer. Morainn, the heroine, was an orphan and had the gift of second sight. She was called a a witch by jealous women. Tormand asked Morainn for her help and this is how the romance begins.
Entertaining, great plot and good characters.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley
Death comes calling.
Apart from the opening horrific images I really enjoyed this. The gory descriptions of butchered women threaded throughout are not for the faint of heart.
Tormand appears to being pursued by a maddened killer trying to indite Tormand for the murders being committed. The fact that he wakes next to a horrifically butchered former lover doesn't argue well for him being held responsible.
Morainn Ross is a wonderful heroine. Sir Tormand Murray is the bad boy who has played the cavalier lover for so long he seems to have reached the satiation point of unmeaningful liaisons. When he sees Morainn he is seized by the Murray blessing of finding his soul mate--not that he can even acknowledge that. He's an unbeliever until it slams him in the face. Even then he's a bit slow on the uptake.
The tension builds nicely and there are a few mysteries that are solved along the way apart from the identity of the true murderer. Having the blame shifted to Morainn and Tormand is a dastardly touch of misdirection and evil is truly present.
The new rather dishy cover brings it into line with the others of the series.

I was so excited to see another Murray book by Hannah Howell....then I realized it must be a re-release, as this is an older book. Fortunately it was one that I had not read yet. Ive always loved the Murrays and Hannah's highlander books. This one, though, was not her best. It just seemed to drag on for me. And the plot, she has used it so many times before. Yes, I know all of her books contain some type of intrigue. But it gets old--our hero is a manwhore, our heroine is small lady with gifts, together they catch horrible villains. I was just hoping to see something different. And just once I would like for the lady to hold out on the guy! Come on! Her books make it seem like all ladies back then were just free with their virginity. Yes there is some reasoning to it that makes some sense, its just a pet peeve of mine. These are the reasons I took away two stars. Hannah Howell is an amazing writer and I will always buy her books. I just wish that she would change things up a bit for the next one.
