Fast paced, well written, as well as amusing, I was able to finish this in under an hour. My only issue is the time frame in which the main characters confessed their feelings for one another.
Mistletoe, Mischief, and the Marquis is another one of Amelia Grey's Christmas novellas. This one is part of her The Heirs' Club of Scoundrels series. I have read two of the books within this series (The Duke and Miss Christmas and Wedding Night With The Earl) but, I do not feel like you need to read them in order to understand what is going on. This novella is filled with tension, mischief, and a ton of Christmas cheer.
Mistletoe, Mischief, and the Marquis follows Lillian and Seth as they spend time together butting heads and getting to know each other better. Seth is actually the Marquis of Wythebury and is responsible for his two young nephews. Lillian does not recognize this at first when she encounters them and immediately disagrees with the way he is caring for his nephews. This sets the foundation of their push-pull love-hate romance with a ton of bantering along the way.
Now, I love a good love-hate romance. It's one of my favorite troupes if I'm honest. However, I hate when it feels like it being forced and that is exactly what I felt here. I understood that there was only so much time to develop this relationship due to it being a novella but, I felt like I didn't really get to know either one characters outside of surface descriptions. These descriptions are the gorgeous, uptight nervous guardian, and the beautiful impulsive slightly immature woman who disagrees with him at every turn. Like I said, there really wasn't much to work with here.
I think if you are looking for a sweet Christmas novella Mistletoe, Mischief, and the Marquis would be right up your alleyway. I think I was just looking for something with a little bit more depth to it. I did enjoy the fun moments between Seth and Lillian such as the snowball fight and I do think that they are pairing that was meant to be together. I just wish there had been more build up and not so much forced tension to their relationship.
I really enjoyed Lillian and Seth's story!
I loved the way that Lillian chided Seth for being so stuffy and not letting his nephews have any fun. She ended up showing him that there was a good balance of study time and fun time for the boys. While she was doing this, she also got him to let his hair down and in the process, they fell in love.
This was a quick, very enjoyable addition to the Heirs' Club of Scoundrels series!
I have a yen for Christmas novels and this is a new favourite. I found it to be delightful and warm and just what I wanted in a yuletide read.
This was a fun and entertaining story that was super short! It was a great one to read when time was at a premium. The story focuses on Seth, Marquis of Wythebury, and Lillian Prim. Seth is serious all o the time, and Lillian is spunky and mischievous. These two definitely don't understand one another, but that doesn't stop a strong attraction and then deeper feelings growing between the two of them.
Mistletoe, Mischief, and the Marquis is a good little holiday story, and a nice addition to the series.
And it started with a snowball!
I have always had Amelia Grey on my radar and what better time time to try a new-to-me author than at Christmas? MISTLETOE, MISCHIEF, and the MARQUIS is a breezy and happy novella full of love and Christmas spirit.
Lillian last name is Prim, but she is anything but. She has a zest for life which she shares with two sweet little boys whose parents have died of illness and their governess is ill as well. She has volunteered to help care for the boys at the holiday house party at her brother-in-law's home and can't believe how much school work the boys are expected to do, especially since they are only 5 and 7 years old. So for a break, she takes the boys outdoors to have fun in the snow.
The boys uncle, the marquis is horrified when he sees them having a snowball fight. Seth's heart is in the right place, but he is overprotective. Lillian actually has to barter some fun time for the boys. Staid as he is, Seth is enchanted by the feisty woman who had the audacity to hit him with a snowball. He thinks she is cheeky, but he can't stop thinking about her.
This is a heartwarming feel good story and I loved the playfulness of it. I also loved the chemistry between Lillian and Seth as she taught the oh so serious man to let go and have fun once in awhile. MISTLETOE, MISCHIEF, and the MARQUIS is what a holiday romance is all about, the warm and fuzzy good feeling of love and joy at Christmas!
4.5 Stars!
This was a pretty quick and sweet read. It’s definitely about the opposites attract and who doesn’t love a holiday house party? Seth is a bit on the serious side, wanting to take care of his little nephews after their parent dies. Lillian is cheerful and wants the boys to have fun. Despite some clashing, there’s an undeniable attraction between the two of them. There is some angst but the grand gesture at the end was so adorable, I very much enjoyed that part!
Wickedly sweet and romantic, with just enough humor to keep a smile on my face. It's a fun read definitely worth your time.
Seth the Marquis of Wythebury has taken on the responsibility of raising his late sister's orphaned boys due to the sudden death of his sister and brother-in-law. Seth tends to be a bit over protective of his nephews and then along comes Miss Lillian Prim, the sister-in-law to his host. Miss. Prim takes his nephews outside and is engaging in a snowball fight and she gives them back a little of the happiness they have lost. Miss Prim is determined to get their guardian to see little boys need outside pursuits, but what she did not count on was developing feeling for them all.
I received an ARC copy from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
