RATING: 3 STARS
2017; Gallery Books/Touchstone

I listened to this one on audio, and found it hard to focus in the beginning. I think that was more of a "me" problem though. I enjoyed this mystery, but I wasn't invested in the characters as much as I wanted to be. I think this would be a good action movie. I liked the writing, but the story itself wasn't my favouite in a novel format. The Red Hunter is a good read for the beach.

***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook/audiobook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***

Lisa Unger is a true thriller queen. I love recommending The Red Hunter, and her other works, to library patrons looking for a summer rollercoaster read!

Fascinating thriller featuring two powerful yet traumatized women who are connected in unexpected ways. I was immediately drawn into this novel and couldn't put it down.

If you like a fast paced, stop breathing, just can't put it down thriller, then read this book today!! This novel tells the story of two women and how traumatic events affected their lives. They each learned to survive differently. But their lives come together again by more traumatic events.
The common theme of the book is about justice and revenge. What they are? Is one better? Can you have both? Or is one more damaging to you?
In the end both women learn to survive. Just in different ways.
This was a great thriller and there's so much to discuss here in a book group. This would make a great book club pick!

Though I liked the book, I made the decision at the time I finished not to review it on my site. Maybe in the future I will include it in a book list post or another article.

This is my second novel by Lisa Unger and she did not disappoint. While there is a little confusion in the beginning – it seems like two unconnected stories are taking place – it all comes together soon enough. Once the first connection is made, the present mystery begins to unravel a little at a time, until they all find themselves facing the past in a house that seems to invite tragedy.

While it is a mystery, and a crafty one at that, it’s also an exploration on family relationships, how much genetic connection matters, and how little we actually know about the people we love.

Lisa Unger is now firmly on my must read list.

I like several of Lisa Unger's books but this one just wasn't enough for me. The twist at the end was nice but I was really expecting a little more.

This was the first book I have read from Lisa Unger. Chapter one was fast and I hung on the words. I actually felt bad for Raven and wanted the other girls to be punished. At the same time, I felt unsettled for Claudia as a mom trying to cope. As the story progressed, I found myself just reading this book (yes I read about 4 at a time). The backstory of both characters is sad and disturbing. I will read another of Lisa Unger's books.

I started this book to see if I wanted to read it next. Just one page right after I finished my other book. It was already bed time but I like to plan the next book well 3 hours later I have to get some rest but I didn't want to stop reading! This book grabs you and doesn't let go! Full of mystery and dark secrets, you want to know more and more. I don't want to give anything away but I will say this stand alone thriller by Lisa Unger shows you the dark side of humanity and our ability to be survivors. Fantastic thriller!

The moment that I saw Lisa Unger's new book on Netgalley I knew I had to take a chance with requesting it. I had been getting accepted for a lot of mystery/thrillers so I was hoping I would be able to get this one. You know what? I did end up getting lucky and I got accepted. So far I have only read two other books by Lisa. I read In The Blood which I loved and also gave five stars to. I also read Crazy Love You which I was indifferent about. I am so happy I got accepted for this because I loved every second of it.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I do have to admit I was a little confused at the beginning. I didn't realize the story would be told from different character story points. For a couple of chapters I thought they were talking about one character and then I realized they were talking about another one but that ended up getting fixed the more into the story I got. I kinda forgot about being confused because I ended up getting so into the story. This was a book I did not want to put down.

Another thing I really enjoyed were the main characters. I enjoyed reading about both of these characters. It was such a shame that they both had horrible things happen to them in their past. I did like how they both mattered to each other's story. They end up being brought together and I really enjoyed that. The author found the perfect way to connect the two even though they are completely different people. Plus I couldn't help but get excited when I heard Claudia ends up having her own blog which she talks about her life and Zoey is such a strong female character.

Another thing I really enjoyed is how each chapter was about a different character. Most of the chapters would switch back and forth between Claudia and Zoey but you got other characters in there as well. These chapters would tell you about things that were happening in the present and things that happened in the past. It all tied in very nicely together. There was never a time I was confused about if it was past or present. As the story is being told you can figure that out. I've said this in past reviews that I always enjoy seeing everyone's side of the story. I believe it keeps the story fresh and makes is very interesting. I felt it worked well for this story.

There was one thing I wish I could have seen at the end of the story but I don't want to spoil anything for people who wish to read the book. I do have to say I enjoyed the ending. I thought it was such a lovely way to end such a sad story.

Lisa Unger does it again..Keeping me on the edge of my seat until the very end...The ending I did not see that coming and who was behind it all. I am still in shock 1 day later
Great read!!
My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book and I think Lisa Unger is one of the world's most prolific writers, however, I had a bit of trouble following her timeline in this book. It was confusing jumping from character to character, into different time lines. I have always found her books indelible and authentic. I would love to know how she develops and decides her back stories. Always harrowing and frightening tales by Ms. Unger...it makes for a book that is difficult to put down.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the published for my ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Let me just start by saying, THIS WAS SO GOOD. I literally couldn't put it down, but had no choice at times [the kids were calling].

Unger does a wonderful job telling the story from different POVs. Some things aren't a surprise and you find out early on about "The Red Hunter". Remember, it's all in the details. There were several surprises I didn't see coming and suspense that had me biting my nails anxiously!

If you are looking for a fast-paced thriller, one that will stay with you forever, pick up The Red Hunter, now!

5 stars for this very intense thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat ! Bewared this book does have violence.
This is a stand along thriller for the author, the story of two very different women who suffered horrific crimes. The story is told by them in narrative form and that adds to the suspense. Both women decades later are still fighting for their lives and their lives collide with a mysterious set of circumstances.
There were parts of this book I had to skip due to graphic violence . But the characters and the story is very well told from both viewpoints. This is a excellent author who has a fast paced exciting writing style. For anyone that likes thrillers and stories of revenge.

Lisa Unger is one of the best psychological thriller authors in this genre. I've been hooked on her books ever since I read the Ridley Jones books. This new standalone novel didn't let me down. The story focuses on two women that have had horrific traumas. The character development was superb and in-depth. This novel was fast paced from the beginning to end. What I appreciated the most was the way Unger entwined the stories when all the secrets were revealed.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy.

I was surprisingly not taken in by *The Red Hunter*. I thought the plot was a bit too clunky and awkward from the beginning on and wasn't able to finish.

Touchstone and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The Red Hunter. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

Claudia Bishop was brutally attacked in her apartment and left for dead. Years later, her teenage daughter seeks information that may finally lay the issue of her parentage to rest. Zoey Drake and her family were victims of a home invasion, during which her police officer father and her mother were murdered. When Claudia moves into the house left to her by her father, which has connections to Zoey's past, will the secrets of that terrible night finally be revealed? While Zoey searches for the perpetrators of the horrific crime, will she be able to uncover the darkness without succumbing to it?

The Red Hunter was good, but very transparent. It was too similar to books that I have previously read and the dual perspective format was confusing at times. The author changed the narrator without any descriptors to help the reader decide the identity of the speaker. The Red Hunter reminded me of a movie thriller, with good action sequences and fight scenes, but not enough character development or plot to keep it interesting.
