I love Lisa Unger books. I always know that I am going to get a great read whenever I pick up one of her books and this one did not fail one bit.

Zoey was a little strange to begin with until I learned what made her strange. Then I was like "she's only that strange"? This girl had a very rough life and it started very early.

Of course, Claudia was having a rough life of her own, but her's was only about to get a whole lot rougher.

There are some really mean characters in this book. The author did a great job with the time lines, the plot twists, the "secret man" (small spoiler) and the overall secrets that all come out in the end.
Secrets that started early in Zoey's life and that Claudia inadvertently shares with her decades later.

Such a great read that I fully enjoyed. It's all there, mystery, suspense and . . . very well put together.

Kudos Lisa on a great job! I have met Lisa. As a matter of fact, I have the marketing poster board for her book "Heartbroken" signed and framed hanging in my bedroom. (It has the colors that match - turquoise and teal). Thanks again Lisa! And yes, this review is unbiased, HA!!!

Huge thanks to Touchstone for approving my request and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I’m going to be up front and admit I’m biased with this book because I’m a huge fan of Lisa Unger’s, I’ve read everything she’s written and have loved each of them. Thankfully she did not disappoint with her newest book and kept her track record for awesomeness alive! I was hooked from the first chapter.

She has this way of writing suspenseful mysteries that make you question your sanity at times but does it in such an intriguing and interesting way you become hooked to her stories.

Unger has created a thrilling plot using the sins of humanity, greed and revenge, but also its better halves, love and forgiveness. The lives of two complex and enthralling women are held up as the image for which to view all of this. Her story line is full of enough surprising twists you will be kept satisfied through to the end.

This book reminded me why I’m such a huge fan of hers because it’s classic Lisa Unger with all of her talent on display and embraced through this distinctly captivating story.

I haven’t read a Lisa Unger book I didn’t LOVE. I get sucked into her books and can’t put it down. Her books are so believable and all the characters are well developed. The dialog is well developed and never cheesy. This book has something for everyone; mystery, suspense and romance.
I was so engrossed in this book and felt so involved with the characters. At times I was scared of what was going to happen to them next and then I was cheering for the Red Hunter to do her thing without abandon.
Anything Lisa Unger writes I’ll read.

Claudia Bishop and her daughter Raven live in a very run down farmhouse in the country that Claudia inherited. Claudia was viciously raped some years ago and is still trying to get beyond it.

Josh, a handyman, cares for his ailing mother who has intermittent dementia. His brother Rhett has just shown up again after an absence of some years. They don’t get on at all. His n’er-do-well brother insinuates himself into Josh’s business.

Zoey Drake is an individual who is killing people but cares for her ailing uncle Paul. She is suffering the fallout from the brutal killing of her parents when she was a child.

These two women have in common the home where Zoey’s parents were murdered. Ironically, it is the same house that Claudia is trying to remodel. Zoey is looking for justice and Claudia is searching for peace. Can they really find it?

Lisa Unger has written and plotted a great novel. It is written with passion and the perfect level of tension that keeps the story moving right along.

I want to thank Netgalley and Touchstone for forwarding to me a copy of this most remarkable book to read.

I love a good revenge versus justice book and THE RED HUNTER was a goodie!
Claudia, her daughter Raven, and Zoey Drake are three women whose lives have been damaged by past deeds that are in now way their fault. Claudia was raped and the child she bore 9 months later may or may not be her husbands's, but her rapist's. Zoey's parents were brutally murdered in front of her and she was left to die. What connects all three of them is an old house - the house Zoey once lived in, and that now Claudia and Raven call home.
Unger tells the story in the present and the past, the events leading up to the exciting ending all converging together.
I hate spoilers so I won't say more, but this book was excellent. Some parts were hard to read, especially the pages of vigilante justice and the past trauma's but they were necessary for the story's credence and forward propulsion.
I highly recommend this book.

I have read all of this author's books and have totally enjoyed them. This one was a minor disappointment. The storyline was great, good suspense. But too many lapses in logic. I know that any mystery has to have some lapses, but in this story too glaring. For one example, if people were looking for the money in the house for ten years why would they leave boxes in the basement totally untouched. I also prefer a good strong realistic ending to a mystery thriller. The cinderalla ending was a large disappointment. However, I will certainly read her next book.

The Red Hunter is the latest story from Lisa Unger. The Red Hunter shifts from main characters and time lines and because of this in the beginning it is a little difficult to keep everything straight, but well worth the effort. The Red Hunter's characters are ones who come to life on the pages and whose edge of the seat moments keeps your heart pounding. I was given an early copy to review.

With The Red Hunter, author Lisa Unger has reached back to her roots to produce a suspenseful crime novel that will keep you glued to every page. There are two main story lines, one involving Zoey Drake and the other Claudia Bishop, that twist and turn and ultimately wind themselves around each other.

Zoey Drake survived unspeakable trauma during her childhood and molded her hurt and anger through Kung Fu training to help insure she’d never be a victim again. Meanwhile, Claudia lived through her own ordeal, using it to try and see a brighter side to life. Their paths cross when Claudia decides to renovate a home in the country that happens to be Zoey’s childhood home.

The intricacies of the story combined with the way Unger tells it, makes this book truly one of Unger’s best and is reminiscent of the reason I started reading her work years ago.

Whoa. Tense. Every single page kept me glued to see what on earth was going to happen next. I'm not sure I could name a single author as skilled at keeping the tension going as Lisa Unger. The Red Hunter is an exceptional novel

A house is the common denominator between two very different women. Claudia Bishop was sexually assaulted. Her life fell apart. Her husband left. She and her daughter search for a new start and find it renovating an old home. She blogs and takes pictures but the house has a traumatic history.

Zoey Drake used to live in that house. Her parents were murdered during a home invasion. She was tortured and left for dead. The killers were never caught. Zoey is filled with rage and even training in martial arts doesn't make her let go of the past.

These two women are on a collision course. They are each searching for peace in their own way. What will happen when they meet?

I have read several of Lisa Unger's books. Each one seems to be better than the last ... and she did not disappoint. This is a very well written story with solid characters. There are surprises and twists along the way. The author leads the reader in one direction and then another. The ending was explosive. It's riveting and powerful and guaranteed to keep you engrossed from the very first to the very last.

Many thanks to the author / Touchstone / Netgalley for the uncorrected proof of THE RED HUNTER. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Thank you for the opportunity to preview The Red Hunter by Lisa Unger. Lisa Unger takes the reader on a dark journey in her new novel The Red Hunter. The story centers on a young woman, Zoey, who survived a brutal attack - her parents were killed, and she survives. Zoey is haunted by the night a home invasion - four men looking for a million dollars in cash from her father, a cop, changed her life forever. The men leave empty handed, leaving Zoey barely alive in an old farm house..
Four years later, the old farm house where Zoey once lived and almost died is being renovated by Claudia Bishop, an attractive 40 something year old woman wanting to make a change in her life. She's inherited the farm house and moves from New York City to get away from her old life with her teenage daughter. Claudia wants to start over and is unaware that there are people who believe the money is hidden there.
The million dollars haunts those four men and they watch and wait to get a chance to get what they came for over four years ago.
Unger weaves the two story lines and intersects the lives of these women who both struggle with their own mortality. The other characters serve to enhance the plot. Unger enables her female protagonists to feel pain and suffering like no other writer.
This will have readers engaged from page 1 till the surprise ending. Well written and fast paced. I finished this in one day - I could not put it down. I rarely give 5 stars - I did today. RECOMMEND.
