All I can get out of my mouth right now is YUM, WOW and I'M OFF TO COOK at the top of my lungs, I am not a vegetarian, I love eating meat (sorry animals) but I d0 love this book and it has recipes that are tantalizing and calling me to the kitchen (which is unusual for me).

To start with, I am happy to see a quick and thrifty section in the book which is just as long as the other chapters. It is valuable to have a thrifty section because for some vegetarians budgets are tight, and makes vegetarian cooking for some people much more accessible.

The introduction to each chapter is informative and have some useful facts and shopping suggestions for cost effective and long term freshness of items particularly spices. The book is clean only using a small amount of colour. There are not pictures on every page but are scattered throughout the book. I do prefer more pictures of the actual cooked item as I am more of a visual person and it gives me an indication of whether I am on track with my cooking or not.

Overall it is a lovely book that I am sure many vegetarians will love.

Good Veg by Alice Hart is described as a modern vegetarian cookbook. My family is not vegetarian although I do like to serve a vegetarian meal from time to time. I was hoping this book would give me some good ideas. While there are good meal ideas, I do not feel it is good for picky or less adventurous eaters. I should also remind you that I live in a rural area so finding many of the ingredients is not cost effective. That and the length of some ingredient lists were negatives for me.

I did find some recipes and helpful tips throughout the book. I loved the Hibiscus Honey Tea. The tips for making sweet potato fries that are not soggy were excellent. The Four Essential Dressings were great and offered something for everyone.

While the book has good and not so good points, it was simply not what I needed. My family is too picky for me to make much from this cookbook. I would recommend that you preview it and make your own decision!

Good Veg: Ebullient Vegetables, Bold Flavors—Thoughtful Vegetarian Eating for Life provides some recipe variety to the practiced vegetarian. To the newbie meatless eater or the once a week meatless eater Good Veg is a bit too exotic and unfamiliar. Adventurous and amateur chefs will enjoy making the global / unusual dishes such as Bhel Puri or Teff banana and maple loaf (What is Teff?). But your everyday Joe will find most recipes daunting and possibly too much for them. The cookbook is broken down into sections Mornings, Thrifty, Gatherings, Raw-ish, and Afters. The stand out recipes (as far as approachability) for even the most ordinary non-vegetarian palates were the baked squash ricotta and sage and the overnight smoky baked beans. Helpful tips can be found for making lentils perfectly, making nut milks, and sprouting. The veggie photos pop against the stark white background but not enough to make this a coffee table book. Instead Good Veg is good enough for a library borrow.

If you are tired of the same old vegetable recipes, this is an excellent "widen your repertoire" cookbook. Using easy to find ingredients, this will step up your mealtime game - and this coming from a meat eater!

A diverse, unique vegetarian cookbook. Many recipes had ingredients or vegetables that you don't tend to see in other vegetarian cookbooks. Not only were more vegetables chosen, but the recipes collected were very unique. This book is easy to read and formatted in an easy to understand way. Perhaps more photos of recipes would help improve this book, but overall a nice addition to any cookbook collection.

This is a really beautiful and sophisticated book that vegetarians or omnivores will love, but is pretty heavy on the eggs and other non-meat animal products, rendering it not quite so vegan-friendly. However, it is still full of lots of amazing looking recipes that vegans can enjoy, so bonus points for that!

Squash fritters, pot stickers, squash bao, brown rice bibimbap bowls with smoky peppers....getting hungry? It's always a good feeling when reading a cookbook knowing that everything you make isn't going to be chock-full of meat. That you can just cook until your vegetarian heart's content, knowing that you won't have to analyze the recipe in order to make cruelty-free substitutions. It's a beautiful book with unique and substantial recipes.

I'm a sucker for a pretty cookbook. And this one is beautiful. It is definitely aimed at the more proficient cook, as there is little in the way of basics presented. The recipes are well explained and the directions clear. As a vegan, it is not always easy to use a vegetarian cookbook. Good Veg, while utilizing dairy and eggs in many recipes, has a large number that are vegan or can very easily be accommodated). I appreciated the varied and international recipes. There are many unique combinations, which can be tough to find in large numbers. Usually, I 'll find 2-3 per cookbook. This one features them throughout. Many recipes do require specialty ingredients rather than things you might have or commonly use. This isn't bad, but it is important to note and might prevent some from trying the recipes. I am looking forward to the Thai Green Sweet Corn Soup and Tarka Dal Soup, which look simple but delicious.
