Interesting but difficult to review out of context of series

Fringe Station, I discovered, is the second in a series. I found it very difficult to get into, partly because it was a second book, but also because the narrative voice halted the story so frequently to offer neutral toned information dumps.

When the plot did pick up, I was often confused and t lost. I blame that on myself for picking up a sequel. But there were times when transitions were far too abrupt.

Finally, the narrative voice too often intruded; in a big world like this, an engaging narrative voice I think is crucial. An informational tone keeps me outside of the story.

Once things got going, it was a solid story with lots of imagination and action.

I had not read the first book in the series, but found this a exciting space opera.
My only problem was it was too short.
