Anyone who knows me knows that sports romance is one of my hidden loves! For that reason when I read the blurb for Back Check I was totally on board!! I loved the spitfire banter between Katelyn and Tanner and the undeniable heat between them!
Overall this second chance love story between our hero and heroine was fabulous. This story had heart and delivered on the built up tension between our couple. I am so obsessed with this series, the bromance between all the players and the unequivocal connection between Katelyn and Tanner!
5 stars!
I loved both Tanner and Katelyn. I found them to be relatable yet intriguing. I enjoyed reading about their previous relationship and seeing how they have come to grown between that time and the present. They both had their insecurities and complemented each other well. I especially enjoyed seeing their connection grow even more on the page. Tanner and Katelyn's chemistry wasn't as powerful as I expected considering their history, but it was good enough for me to enjoy their time together. 😊
As always, it was nice to get to catch-up with previous couples and meeting new additions to the series. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, I can't wait to read who Max is going to get paired with after everything he's been through.
All in all, a fun, enjoyable romantic read!
Not my favorite of the series, though surprisingly enough I actually like a sports romance, and the Ace’s Series has really been great.
But this whole second chance romance just seemed a little weak, and I really couldn’t get on board with Tanner and Katelyn, their characters seemed less than memorable, which is such a sad departure for this author.
Overall I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either
Loved this one!!! Awesome chemistry between Tanner and Katelyn; so hot and passionate! Like the setup for this one; Katelyn is a wedding planner for hockey player Marc and his lady Lovey’s wedding, when she runs into one of their groomsmen, Tanner. Tanner and Katelyn loved each other in college, but hockey and some other things got in the way; they both were heartbroken. There was some bad blood between them, but these two are combustible together! A possible second chance is on the horizon, but there’s still some hockey business that is causing some issues. Both characters are wonderful! Such a good couple; wonderful deep connection between them. Loved the banter between all the guys on the hockey team, and it’s great how this sports romance actually has actual scenes dealing with the sport and not just the manwhoring ways of the players. Entertaining and fun! So sexy! Loved the whole thing!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Strong characters, hot men playing hockey and great chemistry, what more could a girl ask for. Will definitely look for other books in the series.
This author's voice/writing style doesn't work for me. I have tried numerous books and I have found many hockey romances that work for me, so I know the sport romance side of it isn't a "new" thing for me - but I don't really connect with this author's style.
The depth really isn't there for me and when I try to look deeper into the storyline, I'm just not feeling it. I like being able to sink into a book, to get lost in the words, and be able to fall in love with the characters, and on these books I just couldn't.
BACK CHECK - Kelly Jamieson
#4 in the Aces Hockey romance series
GREAT CONTINUATION OF THE SERIES - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Tanner and Katelyn were an item in college, but they went their separate ways. When it turns out they are both participating in Marc and Lovey's wedding, they rekindle the flame both thought was gone.
Writing - 4 stars - Jamieson always captures my attention right from the beginning, and this book was no exception.
Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Tanner is tall, dark, and handsome, of course (a prerequisite for a romantic hero), but he's also kind and hard-working and a good friend. Which is why he's involved in a wedding when he's totally against them because of his upbringing. Katelyn is beautiful, but she's also professional and intelligent and good at her job. I loved that she stood up for herself, but she tempered those hard edges with a softness of love that really made her appealing and approachable. Their relationship is HOT, even through the bumps. And their willingness to think things through and discuss their issues made them so mature and easy to like.
Title - 4 stars - Clever, since it implies a backward look, which is applicable since Katelyn and Tanner have a past. Plus it's a defensive term in hockey, which fits Tanner's position on the team.
Cover - 3.5 stars - I don't love a cover that shows a face since that face doesn't necessarily picture how I see a player in my imagination. However, this guy is definitely good-looking and certainly is eye-catching, which is what you want a cover to be.
Overview - 4 stars - It felt so comfortable to fall right back into the Aces Hockey world and revisit with old friends while getting to know others better. This is a nice story, with enjoyable characters, and the emotions and angst made sense without going over the top. I look forward to reading more in this very entertaining series.
This was a fun second chance romance from Kelly Jamieson. She never fails to entertain and I love revisiting the Chicago Aces.
Kelly Jamieson is soon to be my new go-to author, as this book had me wanting more. Tanner and Katelyn are given a second chance in this book, and sparks fly with each interaction. I loved reading this story, and the sparks that fly between these two is explosive and full of heat and romance. This is a truly wonderful second chance book, and the author does a great job at giving the characters the personality where there is just a bit of hesitation to be realistic, while giving them the opportunity to start anew. This book is part of a series, and while each can be read alone, you won't want to miss any of the others from this series.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kelly Jamison just knows how to do jockey romance. While this wasn't my favorite in the series it's always nice to see two people who are meant to be together find their way back to each other after extenuating circumstances break them apart.
After running back into the one who got away when she is your buddies wedding planner... it's only natural that you can't resist each other too long. I really liked these characters and this book! Steamy and sweet, with fun characters, I enjoyed this book!
Tanner and Katelyn were so fun! I really enjoyed them and this story. I loved that they went to college at Michigan State brought back some pretty cool memories!
Tanner known as a bad boy in the hockey world. One failed marriage and a past of failed marriages in his family has a trust issue and self confidence issue and runs into his college sweetheart Katelyn (Katie). Katelyn who comes with her own baggage and some secrets of her own on why their relationship with Tanner ended in college.
They are thrown together because of a wedding she is planning for Tanner's teammate. The bride and groom see the sparks and make things interesting for all of them and continue to put them together. Brilliantly done and very effective.
Great read. Really enjoyed it....
4 stars! Another great book by Kelly Jamieson! I love this series. It combines all my favorite things! Hockey, romance, and this one had second chance love! I LOVE second chance love stories!
Unfortunately, I never got to actually read this book, I would have loved too but was too late in downloading it.
Another great hockey story by the incomparable Ms. Jamieson. This story goes before the one I reviewed last, right before Marc Dupuis wedding to Lovey Armstrong. This one actually happens while Lovey is planning their wedding. The wedding planner they hire, Katelyn, happened to have been Tanner Bennett's high school girlfriend. And Tanner was chosen by Marc to be one of his groomsmen. Happy second reunion! Or not?
Katelyn and Tanner broke up in high school because he was drafted to play hockey in New York and she refused to leave her dad. Her mother had died years ago and she was all he had. When Tanner arrives in New York, angry and sad, he went all out into the life of a single famous sports star, with parties, puck bunnies, booze, the works. He marries a model, and subsequently divorces once he finds out all she wanted was a rich husband and the high life. Now, eight years later, he goes into Marc Dupuis apartment for a wedding planning meeting and finds the girl he loved and lost eight hears ago. I loved how they reacted when they met again. They let it be known they had met before and adopted a frenemy attitude that was so cute. They were polite with little twists of sarcasm. They were really thrown by the meeting after so many years apart and both were apprehensive about all the future meetings regarding the wedding. Katelyn attitude with the others was so nice and helpful and knowledgeable about her business that Tanner was impressed. Likewise, Katelyn was impressed with Tanner's muscles!
It was precisely the frequency of their meetings that brings them closer together. Katelyn got job opportunities with Lovey's friends, she found herself absorbed into the circle of Lovey's friends, and it's like a noose was slowly closing in, bringing them together. This is because Lovey's friends are the wives and girlfriends of the other hockey players, so they were thrust together a lot. They hadn't had the chance to say goodbye properly the first time, but this time they had the opportunity to have full disclosure. I loved about this story that it evolved so smoothly and that their love was reignited so naturally. You learn from their stories that they had never found someone else to replace what they had. The only elements of stress is the negotiation of Tanner's renewal with the Aces, which is going slow and final draft time is rapidly approaching. Also, Katelyn is just starting her business and it's picking up fast . There's a question in the air of what could happen if Tanner is drafted to another team. It was a really romantic story with very frequent smutty sexy moments.
Another happy stance is that during this book, Jared and Sydney's baby is born, so more happy to the story!
Back Check was a definite winner of a read for me. This may be my favorite of Kelly Jamieson's Aces Hockey series yet! We have Tanner Bennett, hot hockey player. A second chance romance with his college sweetheart that got away. There's angst and drama because Tanner is worried he could be traded. Plus he and Katelyn didn't end well the first time around, so seeing each other again is awkward at best. But the attraction and pull between them is fantastic! Their chemistry and humor with each other is wonderful. The supporting cast makes it even better; truly the friendship among the guys is both hilarious and endearing. Great story from start to finish!
When Team Captain Marc Dupuis hires wedding planner Katelyn Medford to help with his wedding Katelyn is put directly in the path of Tanner Bennet, Marc’s team mate and her college love. Both have gone on to try and find love but it never worked. Could it be because they were meant to be together all along?
Any book in the Ace’s series is a guaranteed amazing read, but what I loved about this one was the way it showed how differently we think when we are younger. We can feel something with so much certainty but years later look back in complete shock that we ever took the steps we did. I loved watching these two move past not only the young dumb choices they made but also grow together from the choices.
Kelly Jamieson knows how to write hockey romances! Second chance romances are my favorite and throw in athletes - it just doesn't get better than that! Tanner and Katelyn were perfect.
Chicago Ace’s Tanner Bennet does not like wedding and believe in happily ever after since his marriage lived shortly. But when Chicago Ace’s Captain Marc asks him to be one of the groomsman, he can refuse. When Tanner meets Marc’s wedding planner, he couldn’t believe his eyes. It was his college sweetheart Katelyn Medford. He couldn’t believe she was in Chicago and being a wedding planner.
Katelyn moved from Michigan to Chicago after her dad passed away and she is making herself known as party planner. When she received a call from Lovey, she accepted the job but when she faced Tanner at a get together, she wasn’t sure if she could finish the job.
They have been college sweetheart and he was drafted by NY NHL team and he had to move and she couldn’t move with him. Both of them had reason to leave their relationship. It broke both hearts in different ways. Tanner got caught up in the NY life and hastily marries a model which lasted less than a year. Katelyn was looking after her Alzheimer father while Tanner was away in NY.
She heard he was married and she wanted a new life and she was in Chicago, not knowing Tanner was in Chicago as well. Now they have to facing each other and still unsure if their feelings for each other.
Once Lovey arranged them to be seated next to each other at one of the parties, things escalate and they are in each other’s arms. They wanted to start again.
Everything seemed fine until Tanner’s contract negotiations. He doesn’t know if he will be renewed or traded. That’s hanging over their relationship again. Just like it happen in college, Both doesn’t want to go through again the heartache but nothing is solid for both.
What will Tanner and Katelyn do?? They don’t want to relive it again and they don’t want to give up on each other.
Fast read. It was fun reading all the series so far. I love to see all the characters from previous book and their stories. I can’t wait to dive into the next one.
A second-chance hockey romance but will they be able to endure what life throws at the them this time? A spicy read that is sure to satisfy any sports romance fan!
