This book was OK for me. I don't really like second chance romance but I felt they dealt with their past by being up front and not dragging out past miscommunications. I loved the hockey team Dynamics.
This is fun, romantic, steamy and engrossing. The storyline is sweet but sad because of what happened in the past. It has very likable and strong characters, especially Tanner and Katelyn. I loved this story and am looking forward to reading more of this series and more by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest opinion of it.
Ummm, a new Chicago Aces book with a second chance romance - hell yes!! I couldn't wait to get my hands on Tanner and Katelyn's book, Back Check!
And boy did Kelly Jamieson deliver. This book had everything I crave in a love story - I was consumed by these two. They're engaging and intriguing characters whose relationship is filled with passion and over the top chemistry. But they also have a ton of baggage and history to get past if they want a future together, only they are really freaking stubborn.
Their issues create a hot mess of drama but it makes for an exciting and heart pounding reading experience. Because it feels real. Authentic. Tanner and Katelyn could be you or your friends. It's awesome.
Back Check is a great addition to the Aces Hockey series and I would absolutely recommend you checking it out!!
Yup, I’m still on a sports romance kick and can’t believe that Kelly Jamieson has a whole series of hockey heroes that I haven’t read about yet. Although this is the 4th book in the series, it can certainly be read as a stand-alone. However, I will definitely go back and read the first three because I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun, quick read with great characters and a wonderful story line. The angst was minimal and the romance was hot! This book had two of my favorite things, great chemistry and a dirty talker…can’t ask for more than that!
Tanner is a deliciously hot hockey player who’s been burned by love and has no intentions of getting caught up in that net again. Katelyn wants love in her life and, although she’s had several serious relationships, she hasn’t found the one. As an events planner who gets hired to plan the wedding of on of Tanner’s teammates, she’s brought into the hockey world. A world that leads her to Tanner. The catch? They know each other…they dated in college and it didn’t end well. Now they need to decide whether to stay away from each other or let the heat they both feel bubble to the surface. I love second chance romances and this one was done well. The characters were great and the story line had enough drama to keep me turning the pages. I would have loved to hear more about their past because these two made a great couple, but I enjoyed seeing them reconnect. And hearing about why their relationship originally ended broke my heart.
The secondary characters were great. Their banter was fast and humorous, and they were friends that acted like family. Even the small glimpse at the secondary female characters showed that they were strong and intelligent and I really liked that. There’s a lot to enjoy here and I will definitely be checking out some other books by this author. After all, reading about hot hockey players, swoony romance, and sexy times…it’s a pretty great way to spend some time!
The Aces are back! Tanner and Katelyn knew each other back in college and were in love, but the opportunity for Tanner to play for the NHL in another state separated them. Tanner asked Katelyn to move to New York, but she couldn't so they broke up.
Years later, Tanner will be a groomsman at a friend's wedding and Katelyn is the new wedding planner. Things are awkward and both still have strong feelings about what happened, but Katelyn suggests that they be friends for the sake of the wedding. As they keep running into each other, they realize that maybe their feelings are still strong so they decide to give it another chance. Things are going well until they aren't anymore. Will they make the same mistake again and walk away or will they work things out this time around?
Tanner was cocky yet vulnerable. Katelyn was strong yet vulnerable, too. They complemented each other well and the story flowed well and kept me engrossed from start to finish. Can't wait for the next book!
*I received an ARC of this book free from Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
Tanner left his one true love when he got drafted into the NHL. He'd asked her to go with him, but she didn't, and he'd spent the following many years trying to fill in that hole in his heart.
Katelyn wanted to leave with Tanner, but she had a secret that had kept her from doing so. Now her life is different though, she doesn't have those same obligations anymore, and she's even created her own event planning business. Which is how she runs back into Tanner. She's planning one of his teammates weddings, one that he's in. So much for keeping the past in the past.
Two hurt hearts collide again in an undeniable desire for each other.
Tanner and Katelyn both tried moving on, but once you've found the love of your life it's a little difficult to replace them. A fact they both realize with the more time they spend together.
Back Check is a loving and fiery story about reunited love. It has the humor associated with all the Aces Hockey novels, because let's face it those players can be downright hilarious, and the intense heat I'm beginning to associate with Kelly Jamieson. There is a tender moment or two that may require a tissue, but over all it's a fun and entertaining read.
I enjoy KJ's hockey series and it's always good to get glimpses of previous characters. I didn't love this one though. Didn't hate it by any means but I didn't feel that connection or chemistry as a reader.
Two former college lovers split apart by major life events and some lack of communication. So when they reconnect years later the reconnection seems to happen a little too quickly and too easily for me given the time that's passed and what happened during that time:
* she's been engaged 3 times but never married
* he's been married and divorced
They have some personal/relationship issues but their conflict resolution seems too quick a fix.
Back Check might just be the best in the series so far. With the whole gang involved, readers get to visit with old friends while watching as another hockey player gets taken down by love.

Back Check is the fourth book in the Aces Hockey series by Kelly Jamieson and as with the other books in the series this one is a great read! While this book can definitely be read as a standalone I personally feel that you will get much more from the book with knowing the other players stories.
Marc and Lovey are getting married! Lovey is left in a lurch when her wedding planner bails on her so she has called another wedding planner with the hopes that she would be able to take her on as a client. Katelyn is overjoyed when Lovey calls, although she has done her best to stay away from hockey players since her heart was broken years earlier by one, this wedding would help her put her new business in the spotlight and she can hopefully get more clients from this one event.
Tanner doesn't like weddings but he promised Marc that he would stand-up for him at the wedding and he will do what is needed of him and that would be it....well that was his thoughts BEFORE he met the new wedding planner, Katelyn, the one that got away all those years ago.
Katelyn and Tanner played it cool all of like a minute when they first met...for the second time. While there was some hesitancy on both of their parts I am really glad they didn't deny themselves.
I love second chance romances and this one did not disappoint at all. Tanner and Katelyn had great chemistry together, you could feel their need for each other coming through the pages. There was little angst which made this a much sweeter read.
Not only do we have the second chance at love for Tanner and Katelyn in this story, but we also have Marc and Lovey's wedding, as if that's not enough Jared and Sidney have their baby. There is so much going on that you will want a front row seat for it all. It's as if Kelly Jamieson was going for her own Hat-trick and she definitely succeeded.
This has been a great series to read, you never know what is going to happen next but you know it will be a a biscuit in the basket.
4.5 Stars
I am a huge fan of Kelly Jamieson, and adore her Aces Hockey series. Back Check is the fourth title in this contemporary sports romance series, and is a second chance romance.
Back check is the story of Tanner Bennet and Katelyn Medford. Tanner and Katelyn were college sweethearts, and neither ever really got past the feelings they felt for the other. Tanner hasn't had the best luck in the past, any wedding he tends to be associated with falls apart, including his own. Tanner never had the best role models to look up to when it came to relationships, and he has so many insecurities where it comes to love and commitment. I loved how this pair reconnect and the amazing connection they share.
Both these characters are very committed to their careers. Katelyn is independent, strong and very career oriented. I found both these characters to be incredibly endearing and really enjoyed their story.
The chemistry between the hero and heroine is strong, and their story is both heartfelt and realistic. I was riveted to this story and found it very engaging and entertaining. The banter is a perfect blend of fun, humorous, sexy, sweet and emotional.
The story line revolves around the planning of Marc and Lovey's wedding who we met in Major Misconduct the first title in this series, and the other couples appear quite frequently and their stories continue with Back Check.
I can't wait to read the next title in the Aces series.
Another great read by Kelly Jamieson. Back Check is the 5th & final book in An Aces Hockey series but can be read as stand alone. Tanner is a hockey player not sure of his future & not a fan of weddings, Katelyn is the wedding planner hired & the girl that got away. The chemistry between these two is off the charts.
The only complaint I had about Back Check is that its the last in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
After a failed marriage Tanner Bennet is not a fan of weddings. So when he is asked to be a part of his teammates wedding he is ready to run for the hills until he meets...the wedding planner aka the one that got away.
After Tanner broke Katelyn Medford's heart she has stayed away from all things hockey...but when she gets an offer she can't refuse from Marc Dupuis of the Chicago Aces to be his wedding planner she can only hope and pray that she doesn't run into Tanner.
The real question is can Tanner convince Katelyn to give love with him another chance or will the stress of an unknown future ruin everything before she can even decide?
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced review copy of this book
Katelyn for reasons unknown to Tanner couldn't be there when he needed the her the most. Tanner with no clue about what was going on, did what he had to do to move on and get over Katelyn. Years later and after many broken hearts they meet again and then the story really starts to heat up.
I really liked this book and loved that Tanner and Katelyn were so great together. What you find out is that their communication is horrible but boy s it a great ride seeing them figure it all out. Please remember to bring your tissues because there is a possibility that you may tear up just a little bit!
Overall a really good book, can't wait for more.
Some book series, or “connected” books, become too much. I’m thinking of Carly Phillips and her “Dare to Love” series, which started out manageable and has morphed into a “world” with multiple authors mixed with fan fiction and so many characters that I simply cannot keep up. Even if I could afford it. This is just one example; there are many others and of course I can see the attraction for authors to move in that direction.
That being said, Kelly Jamieson knows what she’s doing, and coming in at five novels now, the Aces’ world is still as engaging and memorable as in the first entry.
“Back Check” builds convincingly on each novel preceding it . The characters’ friendships and interactions continue to grow in an authentic way. Except for the fact that each and every one of them is gorgeous, talented and rich, these are people and conflicts we recognize from our own lives. Leap of faith, people!
This is a “second chance” romance between Aces NHL player “been burned before, never going there again” Tanner and event planner Katelyn “I’m used to sacrificing my wants for others,” college sweethearts who broke up when he went pro. Once reacquainted due to an Aces wedding Katelyn is planning, their attraction has not dimmed but the years apart have given them the necessary maturity to establish a lasting relationship. So we cheer them on because the author shows a way forward that is both passionate and touching. Also they seem to really like each other, a refreshing break from all the “I hate you, I hate you!” second-chance romances out there where anger is used to ramp up sexual tension.
When the “There will be no happy ending for us” impasse occurs it’s both touching and pretty cute to see Tanner’s teammates, guys we’ve spent a fair amount of time with, jump in with a solution in an extremely funny scene.
What I appreciate most is that the characters, and there are a lot—but not too many!—of them by now, are consistent from book to book. If there’s one thing I hate in these series it's when a character we like in one book becomes the antagonist in another, or acts in a way completely at odds with previous stories. Thanks Kelly for keeping it believable. And I will happily read more Aces novels.
ARC received for a fair review.
I want to be very clear - I read this as a book stand alone and has no issues understanding anything so if the blurb grabs you click away as Back Check was a great second chance romance.
Ms Jamieson writes the hell out of hockey! As a mom who spends countless hours watching hockey, both live and at countless rinks due to having 2 boys who play, well really live and breathe hockey for me, this is so needed in a hockey romance. Yes, one hockey detail can often throw me for a loop and pull me from the story, but this author nailed hockey yet again!
Back Check is the story of NHL’er Tanner Bennett and event planner Katelyn Medford. I love how Katelyn weaves into the story. Her personality is such a great fit for the supporting characters so it is very clear why she is so easily folded into the mix.
Tanner and Katelyn were a couple in college; second chance romance remember. For me, it is so key to really understand why it didn’t work the first time and what is truly different this time. Meaning I have to believe the second chance really is forever. Ms. Jamieson had me believing this in spades! The reasons here are so powerful.
Speaking of powerful, I don’t think I understood Tanner’s character until I met his father; ugh I wanted to strangle the man. I loved how this played out.
Ok Tanner yes there was a moment I wanted to shake him; but the moment fit the character and the people who do “shake him out of” were EPIC! Such an amazingly well done scene.
I so admired Katelyn’s determination to make her business a success. It was engaging to read about an ambitious woman and to see her man so proud of her!
The happy Katelyn and Tanner find felt real; I really do wish there was more, I wanted an epilogue, I wanted to see more happy…. the together felt so short after the ugh moment.
Though I wasn’t really tempted to go back and read any of the prior stories told, I do hope Max gets a happy as I would LOVE to read that!
The back of this book has a GREAT addition - one that almost made me wish I was reading a paperback (I am a die hard kindle reader) and that was the roster, the team roster complete with player names, numbers and nicknames, it was truly a wonderful touch.
Back check is a second change romance. Tanner and Katelyn reunite after breaking each other's hearts years before. They have both had numerous relationship disasters ever since. They have to overcome roadblocks and past heart break to get their chance at happily ever ever.
I think Kelly Jamieson did an amazing job! This was my favorite book in the series yet.
I devoured this entire series and was delighted when I realized I had an ARC of the next book. I've been on a major hockey romance kick. This was a reunion story between Tanner and Katelyn. They dated in college but broke up because of his future in hockey and her father's sickness. The attraction between them was steamy once they meet again. However, they had to learn to trust each other again and overcome the capricious reality of a professional sport career.
This is Book 4 in the "Aces Hockey" Series and I am enjoying them a lot. This new story portrays Tanner Bennett and Katelynn and I had a great time reading about them since the very first page.
This is a second-chance romance and it gave a warm feeling when I finished reading it!
Tanner Bennett was really in love with his college sweetheart Katelynn but when he signed his first professional hockey contract, he asked her to go with him and she refused. Now he has a failed marriage and Katelynn was engaged three times but never married. Fate brings them back together when Katelynn is hired to work as the wedding planner for one of Tanner’s teammates.
The book is sweet, entertaining and a great read! The chemistry between Tanner and Katelynn is very strong and the love scenes are hot and well written! A fantastic read!

4.5 Stars! The Aces hockey series is sort of addicting because I've fallen in love with the entire team. When Tanner who is a total player reconnects with Katelyn, his college sweetheart, he's definitely thrown. This was a perfect second chance romance. All of the guys are starting to settle down and with the wedding planning comes the ones who've met their "one" advice. Of course we have rocky times but I love when a twist is thrown in there. This was a sweet, angsty story about not letting the one you are destined to be with get away a second time. Loved it!
Great second chance romance. They're split wasn't what either of them wanted, but life had other plans. Several years later, they're back in the same city and now the same room. Their attraction, chemistry and yearning for one another is undeniable. The road to HEA has a hiccup or two, but this time neither of them is giving up.
This has everything I've come to expect from Ms. Jamieson -- heart, heat, friendship and genuine affection. You'll love it!
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I don't know if maybe I've read too many second-chance romance books lately or what, but I just didn't feel this one as much. I love Kelly's books; I think I'm slowly making my way through them all. I just have issues with some things, like him being a man-ho while Kateyln was the complete opposite. The whole secret reason for the breakup, which could've been talked about between them. Kateyln constantly sayings she should be at any of the parties or the wedding get-togethers. I did really like the video part. And of course, all the visits from past couples. I'll definitely be reading the next book.
