SYNOPSIS:
The so-bad-they’re-good alphas of hockey’s Chicago Aces are back in this emotionally charged novel of sex, love, and second chances from the bestselling author of Top Shelf and the Heller Brothers series.

Tanner Bennet hates weddings. They just remind him that he simply isn’t cut out for any kind of healthy, committed relationship—never has been, never will be. After getting rejected by the girl he thought was “the one” all those years ago, he made a huge mistake and married the wrong person. Now that the divorced heartbreaker has reluctantly agreed to be a groomsman for one of his NHL teammates, the last thing he expects is a chance at redemption with the one that got away.

After Marc Dupuis of the Chicago Aces hires wedding planner Katelyn Medford, she discovers that her big break comes with a twist: a reunion with her college sweetheart. The way she dumped Tanner still haunts her. Eight years—and three broken engagements—later, Katelyn knows she’ll never have that kind of innocent, wide-eyed passion again. Still, she and Tanner soon generate enough body heat to burn up the sheets. And even with Tanner’s career with the Aces up in the air, Katelyn’s wondering whether the time is right to let him in for real.

MY THOUGHTS:
This was a fun and sexy second chance romance, I loved it! I have enjoyed this series, but this is my favorite so far.

The backstory of Tanner and Katelyn is heartbreaking. They were so in love in college, but life brought changes that couldn’t be altered. They both had commitments and there were misunderstandings that led to their heartbreak.

Tanner and Katelyn have amazing chemistry and the pace of their love story is believable. There is a lot going on in their lives professionally and personally that is simmering in the background, but their feelings for each other can’t be denied. My heart broke for them when they finally talked about their breakup and the misunderstandings on both sides.

I am not going to give any more about the story, as I want you to enjoy this sweet and spicy second chance sports romance.

Kelly Jamieson is on a winning streak with BACK CHECK, the fourth book in the Aces Hockey series. Tanner Bennet feels like he is cursed when it comes to wedding. When his team captain asks him to stand up in his wedding, he could hardly say no. He never expected to be reunited with the woman who broke his heart, the wedding planner, Katelyn Medford. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Chicago.

I loved this story. First of all, I appreciated that it took place during Marc Dupuis’ and Lovey Armstrong‘s (from book one, MAJOR MISCONDUCT) wedding planning. I love the previous characters in the series, and that was a great way to include them into the story. It was also, a clever way for Tanner and Katelyn to be reunited.

I enjoyed Tanner’s character. Being the child of parents who have gone through several divorces he understandably never felt like he had a normal family. His childhood leaves him with some security issues. He doesn’t really feel wanted. Katelyn is the only person he ever confided in. While all of this is going on, Tanner has the added stress of contract negotiations and trade rumors. I love that he is a big brother and how he interacts with Jovon. I love the video he makes for Katelyn, especially since he did it in front of his teammates.

Katelyn is a likeable character. She has lived in Chicago the past few years and recently started her own event planning business. Being professional is very important to her. I like that she hits it off so well with Lovey and Amber. She fits in great with their friends. She is a noble person with good values.

Tanner and Katelyn dated while in college at Michigan State; Katelyn broke Tanner’s heart when she didn’t follow him when he played with the New York Islanders. We discover her very good reason for sacrificing their relationship. I love that these two got a second chance. They are an astounding couple with fantastic chemistry.

Once again, Kelly Jamieson created an amazing story that was heartfelt and realistic. The characters had obstacles to overcome and issues to face. Being a Chicagoan, I love that it takes place here. Kelly Jamieson does a great job depicting the city. I love this series and highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good sports romance. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I love a story about a second chance for love.

When fate and the Islanders separated Katelyn and Benny, they were not ready for forever. They had growing up to do before they were able to be together again.

Was a sweet and touching story.

Tanner and Katelyn dated in college and they each thought they had something special together. Then they broke each other’s hearts when Tanner was drafted by NY’s NHL team and she refused to leave Michigan to go with him. He had no choice but to go and she wouldn’t hold him back from pursuing his dream of playing professional hockey. So although she had a very good reason to stay in Michigan, she didn’t share it with him or anyone else and he left believing she just didn’t love him enough to try to make their relationship work.

Tanner was no stranger to that concept unfortunately. His parents divorced while he was still very young, and over the years he watched several stepmothers and stepfathers come and go in his life with none of them sparing him a second thought once they left. It seems inevitable to him that everyone he loves in his life disappoints him and walks away from him easily so he equates love with risk, fear and heartache now. Add in a failed marriage to a fame seeking user and he is all too ready to embrace permanent bachelorhood until Fate kicks him in the butt. Katelyn reappears in his life unexpectedly as his teammate’s fiancée’s wedding planner and neither is prepared to face the other but as one of Duper’s groomsmen, Tanner doesn’t have much choice in the matter.

Katelyn isn’t sure if she is furious, happy, turned on or a combination of all of the above when she lays eyes on Tanner again, but the old hurt is most certainly still there and comes roaring to the surface. She can’t afford to lose this job and she actually likes Lovey so she tries to just ignore him. That works out about as well as you might expect, and it doesn’t take long before chemistry resurfaces, apologies are made, and second chances are being contemplated as well intended matchmaking ensues.

Nothing is simple though. There is a very real possibility Tanner could be traded soon, so he is stressing over the contract negotiations that would keep him in Chicago. He tries to remain positive but he knows history could repeat itself since Katelyn’s business is taking off especially with some help from his friends and teammates. Will a few years and new maturity change the outcome if the trade becomes a reality or will they find themselves right back where their 19 year old selves were?

Back Check was a great second chance romance! Katelyn and Tanner had wonderful chemistry that I enjoyed reading. A lack of communication ruined things for them in the past and I loved how the author demonstrated the changes in Tanner since he and Katelyn parted ways. All the familiar faces from the previous books were incorporated along the way and I appreciated catching up with them. If you love a great sports romance, definitely check out Back Check and the whole Chicago Aces series!

Back Check by Kelly Jamieson.....I love second chance romance and this one is a win in my book. This story will hit all your emotion buttons, I was smiling, sad, mad and crying happy tears. Tanner and Katelyn dated in college and broke each other's hearts. Will they be able to make it work this time, several years later. Kelly Jamieson is quickly becoming a go to author for me, she writes amazing page turning stories. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of the book from publisher via NetGalley.

These hockey based novels are like catnip to me for some reason. It's all the same alpha bonding you get with the military ones but less loss of life... And with Kelly Jamieson, you get lots of hot sexy times. Oh yes, she knows how to rock'em.

This story had a second chance theme. In college, Katelyn and Tanner had had a close and intimate relationship--but they kept secrets. Unfortunately those secrets caused them to break up when he got a contract to play hockey in New York. He really wanted her to go with him and she couldn't... for reasons she never told him.

Meeting each other ten years later was uncomfortable. However, she was planning his teammate's wedding and it was too important to her to get the work. He was just going to have to deal with it.

Tanner remembered everything about Katelyn from college. He'd really cared about her and had trusted her more than anyone else he'd known. But she'd still let him down. He'd left for New York and his new team without the woman he'd loved and he'd been lost ever since. Even his ill-timed wedding to Presley hadn't made him feel better.

He just guessed he was meant to be alone.

Katelyn was really trying hard to make a new life for herself in Chicago and everything was going well, as long as she could keep her feelings for Tanner under control. If she fell in love with him again, she'd never recover.

It was it the reverse? Could a relationship between them now be the answer they both were looking for? Hot and sexy series with heat and depth. I loved this story line and rooted for them both. Thanks!

Another great entry in the Aces series. Jamieson's writing is polished, with well developed characters (the secondary characters are interesting enough that I always hope some of them are featured in future books, LOL). You won't be embarrassed to recommend this one to your friends.

One caveat: although it's about hockey players, there isn't a whole lot about hockey. These books are all about the characters. If that's your thing, dig in.

Okay so first thing about this book is that I love hockey and it's probably unhealthy that I love it as much as I do. Kelly Jamieson is one of those writers that if I want to read a good hockey novel then I'm going to read one of hers. That's why it's so hard writing this review. While I liked this book, I didn't love it like some of her other ones. It just didn't have as much hockey intensity that I've come to be spoiled with. Tanner was a good alpha character but he seemed almost mopey. If he was one of the seven dwarfs, he'd be Mopey Dwarf and I mean that in the nicest way. I kept hearing him in my head saying "Nobody likes me, everybody is better than me." I just wanted to kick him in the booty. There's a particularly disturbing part of the book that I found, well disturbing and that was Tanner using Katelyn as his personal "forget sex doll." That's basically where he gets on, gets off and rolls over. I found it a turn off and even the heroine in the book had "where is this relationship going" moment. I'm not saying that every relationship doesn't have that happen, but I thought that the way it was handled was tacky. There was no apology and there wasn't any cuddling. After the book I read before this one...it just left me like the ice storm we just had...Cold.

So, you're probably wondering why the 4 stars? It had plot, grammar was spot on and it was real to life. Which are the three things I look for when I'm reading. I know we read to escape but I like for my books to also be based in reality. I also like for my supporting characters to have some depth and all the supporting characters knocked it out of the park, except for Tanner's father - he's a tool. You can quote me on that.

Age appropriateness of this is definitely 18+ and with all the GD and F words, I wouldn't let my 16 year-old read it if I had one. The sex was explicit and really not necessary at some points. I think sometimes less is more and not the other way around. Also, sometimes I wonder if authors actually try out what they write because some of it almost sounds acrobatic.

If you want a book to spend on a weekend when you have nothing to do and you just want to relax, then this is the book you want to read. I skipped over some of the sex scenes but you might enjoy those. Happy Reading to those who want hot hockey players!!

I received this book for free from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Back Check is a sexy, second chance hockey romance by Kelly Jamieson. Tanner and Katelyn were college sweethearts, but it ended badly when he left to go play pro hockey and she didn't go with him. She had a very good reason for not going with him, but didn't tell him that reason, not that he even gave her a chance to tell him, even if she had been able to tell him. It's been eight long years since then, and neither has gotten over the other. Oh, they've tried: he's gotten married (and divorced) to a gold digger. She's been engaged three times and broken each engagement off when she realized she didn't love them. And now, fate has taken them in hand and arranged for them to meet when Tanner's fellow teammate, Marc, and his fiancée Lovey, lose their wedding planner and hire Katelyn to plan their upcoming wedding. Tanner is a groomsman and when he and Katelyn meet again, it's a shock to their systems. They try to become friends again, for the sake of Marc and Lovey, but it doesn't work. What does work is their insanely sexy chemistry, that quickly leads to them hopping back into the sheets.

As their relationship deepens, and feelings come back, it looks like they're finally moving toward the happy ending they should have had eight years ago. But, Tanner may be traded soon, and with his scarred heart and fear of people leaving him, he breaks Katelyn's heart again. I wanted to smack Tanner, then hug him, I admit, because inside he's still the same boy who's had his heart broken time and again by the people who are supposed to love him. So it's made him lock up his heart and it causes him to make rash decisions that have unintended consequences. Thank God for Katelyn, and her strength, because she doesn't disappear on Tanner, the way he expects her to, the way he expects everyone to.

I've really loved reading Kelly Jamieson's hockey romances, all the characters are strong and sexy, and their emotional connections give depth to what otherwise could be just the same old sports romances. Back Check is like all her others, Tanner and Katelyn together are fire, with both emotional and physical chemistry.

Back Check is the latest book from Kelly Jamieson and can absolutely be read as a stand alone. I was provided with a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley; however, there was no inducement or obligation.

As with all the books in this series, we once again get a nice romance with likeable characters. There's no angst and minimal drama so it makes for an easy read but it just lacked that boom to lift the story to the next level.

Overall, a light and easy second chances Sports Romance.

Tanner and Katelyn share a past and that is always complicated. When they reconnect several years later, yup more complication. Tanner is disillusioned about everything to do with weddings. Katelyn plans weddings. And since he's agreed to be a groomsman for one of his NHL teammates he needs to be involved. Katelyn was the one and the one that he had to leave behind. She knows that getting another chance with Tanner is next to impossible but they could at least try to be friends. But being friends is the last thing on Tanner's mind because they still have that same explosive chemistry. But circumstances that first forced them to separate seem to present themselves once again and they both know that surviving another break up might not be possible for the both of them

I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from NetGalley for voluntary review consideration.

There is something about a good hockey romance that I just love. Back Check was no different, except it tied in my second favorite thing about romances, second chance loves.

Tanner and Katelyn were able to rekindle an old love even if they were both rocky and on edge about it. What I loved about their story was they had to figure out what happened in to the past to be able to move forward. The story overall was sweet and left you happy with seeing the Aces Hockey team again and the bond that they have.

I can't wait for more in this series.

3 1/2 stars. Second chance romances are one of my favorite genres. Back check did not disappoint. Tanner hates anything to to do with weddings. His parents have have married and divorced other people so many times, he just doesn't believe in love. His own marriage was a complete failure also.
Katelyn is party planner who gets a call from one of the Ace's hockey players fiancee. Katelyn doesn't really want anything to do with the hockey world. You see Tanner and Katelyn have a past. When Tanner is called up to NHL she doesn't follow, instead she breaks it off and both were very hurt by this. But of course there is much more to the story. When they first meet up again they don't know how to even treat each other. There is still plenty of chemistry between them. One night they give in to those old feelings. Watching this couple try again was both sweet and painful at times.

I always love a second chance love story. I love the way this romance came together for the pair that had been through a lot in the past. The alternating points of view really gave a great invite to each character and why they were doing what they did. Here they both think they are pretty much done with love and relationships, only to run into the one person they simply can’t resist… the one who got away.

I loved that this story had more hockey in it. We got to really feel some of the tension that the players go through when their contracts are coming to an end and just how much this makes everything in their life messed up. Meanwhile, we are also dealing with Katelyn’s new business that is struggling to get off the ground, but with a few key contacts things start to pick up. But what will happen if Tanner gets traded? Will he leave her once again? What is she willing to do for love? What is he willing to do?

This is a great installment in this series that can be read as a standalone, but we do see the characters from the previous books.

I can’t wait for more from Kelly Jamieson!!

Mary Jo – ☆☆☆☆
A hockey romance and a second chance at love. Two of my favorite things.

A first love is never truly forgotten and in this case, it’s all the sweeter when Tanner comes across Katelyn again in the most unusual of circumstances. Katelyn is a wedding planner and Lovey has hired her to coordinate her wedding to Marc. Tanner has reluctantly agreed to be a groomsman for Marc even though he hates weddings.

Tanner's hate for weddings stems from his own ill-fated marriage. Looking for love and a family after leaving Katelyn behind, he chose the first woman who paid him any attention, even if the attention was more for the money he had than himself. Since divorcing, Tanner has been a firm believer in one night stands or toss away girlfriends, never letting himself get emotionally involved.

Katelyn has fared even worse since letting Tanner walk out of her life. Three failed engagements and a career change has her wondering just when will she find her Mr. Right. She fears that she let him leave a long time ago and she's destined to be alone.

The hockey aspect does not play second fiddle to Tanner and Katelyn's romance and I can't hardly wait to the next book in this series.

I’m really loving this series, Kelly Jamieson has done such a phenomenal job. I think this is my favorite of the series so far, I just love second-chance romances!

Tanner Bennett loved his college sweetheart, Katelyn, but when he signed with a professional hockey team she wasn’t able to go with him and they broke up. He quickly wound up married, then divorced, from a woman who only cared about money. Now he’s very leery of relationships, especially marriages. Katelyn has been engaged numerous times but always calls things off before the big day when she realizes she doesn’t love these men like she loved Tanner. Fate brings them back together when wedding planner Katelyn is hired to work the wedding of one of Tanner’s teammates – a wedding that Tanner is in.

I was hooked from page one, it has a fast-pace original storyline that I thoroughly enjoyed. The wedding that Katelyn is planning is Lovey’s so we get to see lots of the previous books’ characters, as well as a few new faces. I can’t wait to see where Kelly Jamieson takes this series next!

Sarah – ☆☆☆
So... I’ve reached the point in this series where the stories and characters are starting to blur together. The recipe is starting to look simple. Take one sexy alpha male hockey player under pressure. Add a clever and genuine woman who is building her own quirky and desireable business. Stir in angst filled back stories and shake together with girly cocktail time and manly bonding over beer, food, and hockey. Garnish with a little bit of sports action before serving.

This time, Katelyn and Tanner are childhood lovers who meet again when she starts planning the wedding of his good friends. Their history is complicated and Tanner is struggling with rumours that he will be traded. I liked both of these characters and I enjoyed their romance. If this were the first book in the series, I might have appreciated it more.

Aside from the women’s fantasy jobs blurring together, the tired fear of gold-digging puck bunnies is back. Jamieson doesn’t do much for the sisterhood by perpetuating the tired and misogynistic division of women into good girls (independent but sexually cautious career women who are improbably eager to settle down and raise families) and bad girls (sexually forward, materialistic creatures who prey on vulnerable wealthy men).

I think I’m also falling out with the cozy socialising in this series. The girl times and guy times in this book felt more like university sorority/fraternity bonding than actual socialising between confident adult professionals. The coupled-up parties are just a little bit smug and a tiny bit claustrophobic.

I may be looking at this too deeply. This is frothy, fun, fantasy romance. As always, the writing is solid, the angst isn’t too overwhelming, and everyone is completely likeable. But ultimately, I’ve fallen out of love with this series. I’ve read them all in a couple of months and my reaction would probably be different if I’d spread them out and if I couldn’t remember the previous stories quite as well.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
4.5 stars of super sexy hockey player

This is the fourth book in the series – and really do recommend that you read them all, and in order. Each book features another team member, but the stories are consecutive, so you get to see snippets of the future of each couple as the next finds love. They are all well-grounded in the hockey world – and this one not only has play time, but also the issues surrounding tradeoffs and contracts ending – which added to the tension!

This is a really good second chance romance between two really likeable characters, and once we (and they) understand why things went wrong, we can only wait in the hope that things will get sorted out. There are some really fun scenes, as well as some more serious ones, and there is no doubt that the chemistry is still alive. I am reluctant to say more, as you need to read the story for yourself – but I can promise that it is well worth it. And if you love Chicago (as I do) then you will love imagining where they are in some of the scenes.

Thank you for another hit Ms. Jamieson – now I am just sad that I have to wait for the next one!

Back Ckeck what a fun second chance romance. I'll admit this is the first time I've read a book by Kelly Jamieson. I wasn't sure if I'd miss a lot of the background by not reading the three books previously written in this series. Let me say this book can without a doubt be a standalone read. The thing that was so impressive is the author was able to bring other stories into the book and it made the books blend well even as a first time reader.

Tanner and Katelyn were college sweethearts but were separated by miss understandings and pride. Thrown back together after being apart for eight years definitely test both of their sanity. Both still carry not only past anger but an attraction still very much alive. Will history repeat itself of will these two people take the leap and live happily ever after.

What a sweet book, full of love, friendship and pain. I highly recommend this book and out of pure curiosity now plan to read the authors previously written books in this series.

I have enjoyed the Aces Hockey Series thus far and Kelly brings us another wonderful couple to the family. I love how the characters in this series are more like a family than fellow players. I think that might be what draws me to a series like this. Sure it is based around hockey but it is more about relationships and handling the stresses of the professional hockey life.

Tanner has had more people come and go in his lifetime. Divorced parents who have remarried several times. It isn't a wonder that he has decided relationships aren't for him and to say he hates weddings would be an understatement. However, there is no way that he would not stand up for his friend and captain Marc. So he will put on a happy face and deal with it all. At least the best he can with the looming trade deadlines fast approaching.

Katelyn is so excited for this newest client, we that is until she realizes that Marc Dupuis is the groom. She has stayed away from anything hockey in the past 8 years. It would have been too hard. Having to choose between family and the man you love will do that to a girl. She is moving forward with style and grace. Hoping for some great exposure for her business she decided to plan the best wedding she can. But to her surprise she finds Tanner in the wedding party. How will she survive this?

Experiencing the reunite of this couple who lost it all so many years ago was difficult. As truths come to light the emotions are very high. Is there room in their hearts to try again? Are they willing to take the risk? What will the trade deadlines mean for them if they do? Will he leave without her this time?

Looking forward to more Aces hockey.

Back Check is the latest hockey romance by Kelly Jamieson and as always, she’s spot on in describing hockey and the politics of team management in a thoughtful and entertaining way, while providing a sexy romance too. Tanner and his college sweetheart Katelyn split when their futures were obviously heading in different directions – he had a brand new NHL contract, and she was unable to leave for reasons she didn’t share but resulted in hurt on both sides with no one to blame. When her job as a wedding planner brings Katelyn back into Tanner’s circle 8 years later, the first step to fixing what’s broken between them is opening up the lines of communication. I love a good second chance romance, especially when the circumstances surrounding the couple’s breakup are not due to a silly misunderstanding. There’s no doubt that they are still attracted to each other and they share some steamy love scenes as they reconnect. The stress of Tanner’s impending contract renewal (or not) is part and parcel of the decisions they make and the happy ending they get this time around is worth the effort. Lots of scenes with Tanner’s teammates and their partners add that spirit of camaraderie that make Ms. Jamieson’s books so enjoyable. Accurate on ice scenes, locker room talk, contract negotiations and a sexy romance – best of all worlds. Definitely worth the read.

This review will be posted at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo during release week. It's been posted at Goodreads.

I enjoyed this book. It is a little on the smutty side but the book just pulled you in and you fall in love with all the characters. Tanner and Kate were college lovers who split as Tanner went to the NHL. Kate moved to Chicago, started her own business, forgot about Tanner and no longer paid attention to the NHL. Kate is hired to be a wedding event planner and it is one of Tanners buddies getting married. Very cute story and lots of passion :)

Kelly Jamieson is back with her fifth book of her hot Aces Hockey series. Who doesn't want to read about huge, hot hockey players, who literally melt the ice with their mere presence. Tanner Bennet is at the end of his contract with the Aces and is waiting to renew it for another six years, but time is running out and as if that wasn't enough it seems that fate has a surprise for him when it throws the woman he left behind to embark on his career, in his path.

Katelyn Medford has just set up her own event planning agency. She may be a one man show, but she is working day and night to establish a name for herself in Chicago. When she gets a call from the fiance of the captain of the Chicago Aces she is ecstatic. What's more Lovey is the perfect bride, nothing like Katelyn would think a soon-to-be hockey wife would be like. What Katelyn didn't expect was to run into Tanner Bennet. They may have been hot and heavy in collage, but it all had ended when Tanner left for New York to pursue his NHL career. She may have been engaged three times in the meantime, but she has never felt the heat and connection that she had with Tanner, with anyone since. And even though she is still mad at him and wants to keep a professional and emotional distance from him it seems that all it takes is a tiny spark for all the feelings to come rushing back.

Tanner and Katelyn sure have a fierce chemistry that you would be hard pressed to find in many romances. And it definitely doesn't hurt to keep it a little dirty in the bedroom and these two seem to have the perfect formula ;) I just wish that the book could have been a little longer. It just seemd that there was a lot of Lovey - Marc wedding preparation scenes in the beginning and after Katelyn and Tanner hooked up they kind of disappeared until the wedding. I for one, would have really liked to see more of Lovey and her pre-wedding excitement. I truly hope that Max Hall's book will be next. There is nothing like a grieving man coming back to life with the love of that perfect woman...

Another great book in the series. This is Tanner's and Katelyn's book. Tanner a fellow team mate who is lost at the moment waiting to see if he will be traded to another team. While doing that he was asked to be a groomsman in Marc's wedding. He has a bad track record with relationships and love after being divorced already, he isn't looking forward to this but will do it for his friend and teammate.
Katelyn a wedding planner ends up with the wedding after Lovey loses her original wedding planner and stumbles across Katelyn. Katelyn who is trying to build up her business is only to happy to help the girl on the phone until she meets the happy couple and realizes hockey is involved. She trys to avoid hockey at all costs since her ex boyfriend from college is on the local NHL team but she needs the business and decides to bite the bullet and procede.
Katelyn and Tanner split ways back in college when he was drafted and she had to stay home and haven't talked since. After both have had failed relationships and Tanner has lost so many people can they realize what they have is the real thing and be happy or are they both damaged people who are too scared to have there happy ever after. I loved Tanner and Katelyn, there characters worked so well together with the chemisty!
This is a great series and totally enjoy it. Honest review in exchange for ARC.
