Hockey romances are my favorite right now and I love the game. It used to be NASCAR but authors stopped writing those even though I still love the races too! So of course I’m going to give any book a chance and this author has my attention every time. Each story is related to the others in the series and it does help to read them in order but they can stand alone as well. This centers around the Chicago Aces hockey team (Blackhawks in disguise?) and is entertaining, emotional, and hot!
Tanner Bennet gets asked to be in a team mates wedding party. Not an unusual request when the guys spend so much time together, they become a family. But he’s got a lousy track record when it comes to participating in marriages that last and he doesn’t want to see another one end just because of him. After all, the bride to be is the little sister of another player.
When the wedding planner goes out of business, Katelyn Medford gets a call from the bride begging her to help her out. With very little business at the moment, she jumps at the chance for some much needed cash. Until she meets the couple and realizes that the groom is a hockey player. She doesn’t do hockey, not after she had her heart broken. But she agrees only to find out that the reason she avoids hockey players is one of the groomsmen.
Lots of heat, hot looks, and tons of fun in this one!
The chemistry that had always been there between them had flashed up hot and bright. It wasn’t gone. Not by a long shot.
This was a problem.
Actually, truth be told, it's the furthest thing from a problem. Because the chemistry in this book made it an unequivocal page-turner.
I've made no secret of the fact I'm a BIG fan of second-chance romances. I love the hope in them. The foundation. The growth you see in the characters. The idea that it's never over, not when it's so right.
And Back Check is so right. I was in this story from beginning to end—invested in this couple’s second chance, in Katelyn and her new business, in Tanner and his career with the Chicago Aces. A team, I should note, I've been in love with since Lovey and Duper first met-cutely in Major Misconduct. And it's a love that's well rewarded in this fourth book of the series. Because although it can be read as a standalone, there are plenty of cameos for the characters who have previously found and fallen in love. It's so much fun to see them all, to see where they're at in their lives and loves, and to see how they interact with, encourage and support Katelyn and Tanner.
Just as it's fun—and a little emotional—to see this couple find their way back to each other. Although mostly lighthearted and amusing, with many heart-happy moments, there's also a lot of feeling here. It's a book that shows that life isn't easy or predictable or perfect—even in fairytales and fiction—which simply makes it feel more real. More right.
Because, like I said, this book is SO RIGHT. In Back Check, Kelly Jameson has proved, yet again, that she is an author I can count on for a strong, well-paced story with interesting subplots that don't overtake the book, characters that charm, and romance that's as hot and sexy as it is sweet and swoonworthy.
And a guaranteed page-turner.
“I’m going to be the one, Tanner. The one who sticks with you no matter what. Like you deserve.”
~ FIVE STARS ~
Back Check is book 4 in the Ace's Hockey series but as someone who has not read the other books, this definitely can be read as a standalone story. Jamieson does a great job of explaining who everyone is and how they are connected so new readers will be able to jump in easily. This is a second-chance romance at its best. Tanner and Katelyn, college sweethearts who ended abruptly and on a bad note, are reunited in an unexpected way when she is hired as the wedding planner for his close friend's wedding. From their first interaction, the reader immediately feels the chemistry and connection these two have with each other. As they finally give in to one another, the story takes a very steamy turn. The bedroom scenes are scorching hot and it is evident that these two are it for each other. It may take them both longer to realize it as they each try to protect themselves from heartbreak but eventually they realize that they can't live without their true love. Throw in the element of uncertainty with Tanner's hockey career and long-held secrets and you have a well-rounded, fun and sweet story. As a fan of sports romances and second-chance romances, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
I loved this book. Tanner and Katelyn have a history after she is hired to do the wedding of one of Tanners team meets these one time lovers start spending time together can they move on from a past that hurt them so and have their own happy ending?
I liked this book and loved this series it was nice to see some stories come into thos one. I cant wait to see what player we get next.
Tanner is a Defensemen for the Chicago Aces Hockey Team and is your typical ladies man who doesn't believe in love. He feels that any wedding that he is apart of is doomed and ends in divorce ... including his own. But he agrees to be a groomsmen for his team mate Marc. Katelyn is the recently hired wedding planner for Marc and Lovey. Her business is new and is having a rough start ... that is until this particular wedding. Tanner and Katelyn have a history ... they were lovers in college. They split when Tanner got signed into the NHL and Katelyn stayed behind. Both their hearts were broken, but it doesn't take long for the sparks to fly again. This is a sweet and sexy romance that warms your heart for those second chances.

Fantastic! Another great Sport Romance! Can't seem to get enough of this type of romance lately. This story was filled with heat, humor and emotion and I couldn't get enough. I truly felt the connection these two shared. I was rooting for them from the first glance when they see each other again after eight long years apart. Kelly Jamieson sure knows how to bring it.
Seeing Katelyn again made him remember how he had loved her with his whole heart back in college and then having her decide not to come with him when he was drafted. Tanner had turned into the playboy with the devil may care attitude. He didn't believe in love anymore, with his first wedding ending in divorce as well as having parents who constantly divorced and every wedding he had been in ending the same way. It was better to leave love in the past.
"Life without love is kind of empty?"
Katelynn Medford had started her own event planning business a year ago in Chicago. When she had been contacted by her newest client Lovey Armstrong she never expected to see her first love standing in her clients' living room. But she needed this job. And as they are thrown together again and again will they find love again?
I enjoyed Tanner and Katelyn's growing connection and chemistry. I loved learning their history and watching them come together. But as rumor of a trade surfaces, will he leave her again with nothing but heartache? You will have to read to find out!
I voluntarily agreed to read an ARC and post a honest review through NetGalley.
Another fabulous book by Jamieson! Tanner and Katelyn's story showed how if something is meant to be, it will always work out. I am really enjoying this series and can't wait to read the next book!
Note, I did request and received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I love the Aces Hockey series, have read the first four books and was really looking forward to reading this installment. Unfortunately this book just fell short for me, in fact I found myself jumping forward several times because the writing just fell flat. Keeping the reader engaged has not been a problem in past installments, but I got tired of Katelyn and Tanner trying to "just be friends" and then being pissed off because the chemistry between the two was growing. Too many one liners on how the tuxedos were to fit, how Katelyn was just the event planner and shouldn't be at Lovey's events before the wedding, how Tanner hated weddings, sex scenes fell flat, way too many more to list. Will read the next book, hoping it will be a lot more engaging next time around.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This was a sweet story. I'm a sucker for a happy ending and this one had it in spades. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but this book is a stand-alone.
The plot was simple and uncomplicated. I loved that the H&h stood by each other and their story was without all the possible misunderstandings and drama. I enjoyed the cast of characters and I will definitely read others in the series.
