Robert K. Tanenbaum really knows how to write memorable characters! He captures the crime, perpetrators, investigation perfectly. Very entertaining. Strong language and a bit raunchy in some places, were my only concerns.
This is my second book I've read in this series and I've enjoyed them both. In this novel Prosecutor Butch Karp must prove that a sociopathic killer is not found incompetent to stand trial. Another engaging read by this author that I will be reading again.
I've long been a fan of Robert K. Tanenbaum's excellent legal thriller series starring Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi, but somehow missed the early books in the series. Just devoured the first 3 as ebooks - No Lesser Plea, Depraved Indifference and Immoral Certainty.
As well as the unusual and fascinating legal mysteries on offer, I enjoyed getting to know the young (and at times unsure) Butch (recently separated from his wife, who left for California) and the young (and always fiery) Marlene; learning how she lost her eye; and seeing their relationship - and their quirky mutual friends - develop.
Don't miss these early Karp/Ciampi legal thrillers!
I greatly enjoyed this book. I am a huge fan of the series and it was fun to read how it all started. Here is my review on my blog https://journalingonpaper.com/2016/12/24/book-review-no-lesser-plea-by-robert-tanenbaum/
I jumped right into this series. I have read the last several books in this series. I enjoy Karp. He is a good attorney. This might have to do with the fact that Karp is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Yet, don't let this confuse you into thinking that Karp is a sleazy attorney type. No, he is one of the good guys. Someone that you want fighting for you if you find yourself in trouble.
However, you might not really experience all of what Karp has to offer in this book. It was nice to go back to the beginning. Yet, I felt that this story was not one of the strongest showings. It seemed like half of the story had nothing to do with the main story. In addition, I was not really that interested in the characters. The court scenes are realistic. If, I was a new reader I might consider checking out the next book in this series. Luckily, I have seen the progression in this series and it does get better.
