Woo. Nightwing's back. Sorta.
No more Spyral and he gets to be both Nightwing and Dick Grayson again. And he reconnects with Bruce, Damian, and even sorta tries to reconnect with Barbara too. (That doesn't go quite as well).
He also goes undercover, again, this time to take down not the Court, but the Parliament of Owls (Which apparently is a real thing too, in regards to real owls, not people). He also gets paired up with Raptor (a guy who's super in the gray).
For a lot of the TPB I was sort of annoyed at what they were doing with Nightwing, again. But, it slowly got better and by the end I even started looking forward to the second volume.
I got this ARC through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment.
Well this isn't bad, but it doesn't change enough from the New 52 Nightwing, to my mind. It's still going over old ground with the fallout of Spyral (a conclusion I never caught) and moving on, but being so overly dense with the character's mythos with it. What we get here is a further example of double-crossing, and going back to the Owl people you might have expected to see written off with the Rebirth. It's alright, but it does go on a bit with really quite alarmingly diminished returns. It's dense and dramatic enough, but the artwork is patchy, and once more it doesn't feel like a new issue #1.
As a fan of the New-52 Nightwing and Grayson titles, the Rebirth Nightwing is a good continuation of Dick Grayson's exploits. Undercover in the Court of Owls, Nightwing must team up with a man who has a family connection, but not to Dick's Bat-family. Great art and action set-pieces to be found here. I'm looking forward to future volumes of this Nightwing run. Highly recommended.
