Wittshire weaves a romantic and brilliant tale that will leave romance readers and writers alike clamoring for more!
ENCHANTING.
That is the word. At first, I'll say that this for me, is a slow read.. But when I continued reading this.... last weekend, I.CAN'T.PUT.IT.DOWN. literally.
I am so captivated by Leif and Marla, and how they are meeting with just their minds.. A little more, and I can believe there's faeries among us... that this world is real. The story is so captivating, I can picture them on my mind.
After finishing Betrothed, I can only say I'm ready for book 2! The Fairy world created by the author is fantastic. I loved ready all the little details. I think everyone can find something to like about Amy. She's definitely committed to the ones she loves. Leif is a complex character. It's interesting to see how everyone reacts to him. I'd like to see how everything getd resolved in the rest of the series.
Betrothed
Arguably a three, however, the plot the way the story is laid out and the characters all contribute to my four star rating. While many will say it is an unbelievable plot line, I will say remember this is fantasy! So given that sentence, I must say it was enjoyable. I lost myself in the story and just took my time reading and enjoyed being in a make believe world. It is touching at times, unreal at times and just enjoyable at all times. So no judging just enjoy the fantasy! I was given this book in return for a honest review. Anna
This was a tough book in general. While looking up reviews for this to determine whether not it may be a good fit for me - the reviews were really back and forth. Some readers found it horrendous, others loved it.
I really fell right in the middle of the bunch! The cover is what really caught my eye, and prompted me to request it - this was actually my first approval on Netgalley!
In short, this book was about a girl named Amy who dreams about a fairy prince that she shares a connection with. I wasn't so thrilled with the shaming and name calling in the book - but in all reality that's how many teenagers act these days. While having to live through a time like that, and know how painful it was...it's not so nice to read about it.
I also didn't like how quickly the relationship progressed. It didn't seem real.
Other than that I did enjoy it. It was well written, with a strong plot. The story flowed well.
It's about a 4.5 for me, but I really liked this! It started off as an obvious YA but as I continued onward, it got a bit more darker, more intense, and by the end, I was wondering why I didn't have the second book with me. The characters were pretty interesting. Young, but adorable, and I liked the closeness between the best friends. The antagonist.... yikes. Talk about complex. I certainly didn't see the ending and because of that, I'm seriously recommending this to those who love all things fae, a new insight on the myths you know, but most of all.... do it for the love. Not just the MC's love, but the different types that you come across in this book. (Warning: cliffhanger that may make you cry)
This is a fantastic start to a new young adult series ive gotta say i loved it and couldnt put it down im looking forward to book 2
This is not a bad start to a new paranormal series. It kept my attention and I was kept in suspense the whole way through. I'm not honestly sure if I really want to continue this series though. Fae isnt really my favorite kind of paranormal though
Betrothed by Wanda Wiltshire started out very fast paced and interesting, but then did an about face. The character seemed to go from a strong, independent girl to a girl very dependent and obsessed with her new man. It was way too much and way too soon. It was also very suggestive. I got to where I couldn't do it anymore about 40% through.
I fell like the book and plot had a lot of good things going for it, but in the end I lost interest.
I received a free copy of this novel from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
This was a fascinating book! I really liked the characters, especially Amy, who read for a refreshing change of the main heroine. This reminds me a lot of Starstruck by Brenda Hiatt, one of my favorites, and also reminds me vaguely of Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. The story moved at a brisk pace, and you really get into the characters and their world. I tip my hat off to the author for a splendid job well done!

Synopsis: “Amy Smith has always known she was different. Severe allergies, fragile health and taunts at school have made life an endurance test for the adopted seventeen year old.
When Amy starts having strange dreams, everything changes. Night after night, she becomes trapped in a shroud of black – a void of silence but for a male voice calling for a girl named ‘Marla’.
One night, the darkness clears, Leif is revealed and Amy discovers that she is the girl he has been searching for.
Immediately the two are swept up in a passionate yet forbidden love. Leif isn’t like the other boys Amy knows. Breathtakingly gorgeous, he speaks with her telepathically … not to mention, he can fly …
Desperate to find a way to be with her, Leif tells Amy of the terrifying threat to his Fae homeland, the danger to the people, and of an unforgivable betrayal to his King. He urges her to seek her true identity…. But Amy is confused… isn’t it all just a dream?”
Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, it is. Maybe a bit clichéd – too much “love at first sight” (it wasn’t, they didn’t “see” each other, per se) – so, kind of too sappy and “I’ve read this before”. I’m over this kind of romanticized fictional “meant to” love, but other than that? It’s good.
It is well written, and has a good plot. But I have to say, it is really similar to the “The Iron King” series by Julie Kagawa. That series, in my opinion, was really good – and that’s why I didn’t really like this [Betrothed] book, I already read something like it. But, if you liked Kagawa’s books – and wants to keep reading that kind of story – I recommend this book.
It has ‘faeries’, awful fae kings, wonderful fae princes, an ending that makes you want to keep reading because it has NO conclusive END, a task to be accomplished, sappy romance… you name it. And a nice thing? The book isn’t really big (I read the e-book, can’t say the same about the paperback, never saw one), but it has a lot of content, so be prepared for a few more hours of reading than usual.

Amy has always felt different than the other kids in her school. She has severe allergies and can hardly eat anything. The kids at school have always taunted her except for a small core group of friends – especially her best friends Jack and Hilary who are always there for her.
For the last few months Amy has been dreaming about being lost in a dark place with a voice calling for a girl named Marla. When she finally meets this man in her dreams she falls in love almost immediately. He says he is a prince of the Fae and that Amy, whose real name is supposedly Marla, is Fae as well. He tells her that she is his betrothed and that they will be together in the Fae kingdom as soon as he physically locates her. Of course there is one glitch…his father, a king, forbade Marla’s parents from having children and she did anyway and then hid her away. The prince, Leif, thinks that he managed to get the decision overturned.
Marla is understandably confused by everything she hears so searches for her true identity. It actually points to the fact that Leif could be telling her the truth. She also believes he’s a figment of her imagination so when he shows up and she finds that he’s actually real she’s blown away. Now that Marla knows who she is she can’t wait to get to the Fae kingdom and be “normal.” Of course there are many things standing in her way. Her human adoptive parents, the whole “I really wasn’t supposed to be born” thing and then of course Leif’s father who hates her who will stop at nothing to keep Marla out of Telophy.
Betrothed had a decent blurb and I was interested in the premise when I read it. Unfortunately there ended up being too many things about this book that just didn’t gel well with me.
My main issue was Amy/Marla – throughout the book. She drove me batty with her indecisions. With Leif is was insta-love. Of course in the Fae the men are born and then send part of their soul out to find their soul mate, or in this instance betrothed, and then she’s born. There is no greater love in their culture. I don’t normally mind insta-love but the fawning and falling all over Leif was ridiculous. Maybe it was her age (17) but whatever it was had me rolling my eyes on a regular basis throughout the book. Leif I didn’t mind so much because he definitely more mature than Marla was.
I also had a huge issue with Leif’s father – one of the more important kings in the Fae land. The author made it so that every woman loved the king and wanted to be with him. They couldn’t refuse, either. What a load of rot. That drove me crazy, especially when the author had the king using his kingly influence against Marla. It was just downright creepy and disgusting and kind of icing on the cake for this book.
I kept thinking that the end would make it all come together in the end but that didn’t happen either – we were left hanging with Leif and Marla completely apart (because of the bastard king). So not only do we get a frustrating story, the author ends it with no HEA. Ugh!
Overall I found the book…frustrating. The writing wasn’t horrible but I really disliked the story a lot, sorry to say.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing the copy of this. It's not really an ARC (because the entire series is on kindle) but nonetheless I enjoyed this. It's not really a story I haven't read before with various "otherworldly creatures" but I like that it was given its own spin on things (in particular liked the main characters disbelief at things -- that's not common in this type of genre). Amy was unique in that aspect at least and the romance seemed to not be forced despite the book title. I'll probably hunt down the sequels when my pile gets smaller and I need more to read.
loved it cant wait until i read book 2, will tell all my friends
