Interesting and easy to approach guides to making your own makeup - a definite plus for those who want to avoid animal testing and regulate contact with harsh chemicals.
My daughters had a blast reading through and attempting to make the pure mineral makeup to varying degrees of success, tints and skin matching were their greatest obstacle and a lot of trial and error.
First things first - I don't plan to make my own mineral makeup, so I can't really comment on the quality of the recipes.
I picked up the book to get information and to learn more, as I find the mineral makeup being an interesting choice in the world full of chemicals. Mineral makeup seems to be a safe choice (at least I hope it is, as I am no researcher/scientist/medical professional, so I can not testify for that and you do best to research this to make an informed decision) and I am wearing the indie-made mineral makeup I bought online with no problems.
I find the book being very informative in both the practical and the aesthetics area (and authoress obviously has a very good taste on creating the lovely colours and the combinations shown on modeling ladies and in the recommendations).
I like very much that the authoress emohasises the sanitary practices, never compromising on the health and certain professionalism (like one should aim for the best quality of their work, even if it is DYI-after all, you never know how you will use the skills in the future!).
The techniques, steps and recipes seem to be easy to follow (the authoress is good in explanations and she offers truly generous amounts of tips). The internal logics of the book is great (professional look and easy to follow).
There is a lot of photos ilustrating the results (ladies wearing full makeup consisting of recipes offered - and they look great).
I would buy the makeup from the authoress (I just happen to live outside of the States).
Make Your Own Pure Mineral Makeup: 79 Easy Hypoallergenic Recipes for Radiant Beauty is my first book by Heather Anderson.
I am not a fan of Makeup Products myself and can you really fault me? DO we even understand the ingredients listed there? How many of the products that claim to be natural or organic or chemical-free are really that? Right! So, I don't like to knowingly put something on me that will give me HUGE problems later on.
I will admit, I do use a few skincare and beauty products but I prepare them myself for most part. With DIY trend growing, there is a lot of help out there for those who are interested in creating their own makeup. Needless to say, a whole book on Mineral Makeup did interest me, considering I like some shimmer ;) in my makeup products. Who doesn't love it, right?
Jokes aside, Mineral Makeup is considered ideal for those with oily or acne-prone skin, particularly. That's one trait that really made me give Mineral Makeup a try and needless to say, I liked the results, very much. So, when I saw this book on Net Galley I grabbed it of course!
The book is really detailed, with lot of pictures for illustrations. The recipes are really good - yes, I tried quite a few already :P I particularly loved the Lip Stick & Foundation recipes, though there's a whole lot of recipes out there for everyone.
If you are looking for a real guide on making Mineral Makeup from scratch, look no further! This is a very well-written book and comes with a lot of guidelines that are important and probably overlooked by many. A comprehensive and complete Guide, in my opinion.
Great informational book. I liked going through this book and learning about the history of makeup and exactly how it's made. I've purchased ingredients to make my own makeup a few years ago, but this book would've been very helpful as I didn't know what I was doing then. I'm ready to venture into trying this out again, and will be referencing this book as well. The book has great pictures that are fun to look through as well.
This new book by Heather Anderson is a wonderful little gem that we should all have in own home libraries if you love mineral makeup. Beautiful pictures with tons of useful information about identifying your own skin tone, undertone, etc.. You not only get recipes for your mineral makeup foundation, but also for your eyes and lips too! You'll learn about ingredients, tools for use, and of course how to make pure mineral makeup that is good for your skin. Anderson also shows you how to get your color just right! This book is like a manual, so make sure you take some time to read it through. At first it seems a little complicated, but once your get the basics down and get all the right tools and ingredients together, you'll get the hang of it.
Really interesting read! Makes me want to try creating my own makeup - I use the Bare Minerals, so this would be a great way to be creative and save a bit of money.
I was wonderfully surprised by the depth of this book. Heather Anderson does not just include recipes to make pure mineral makeup. Included in this book are definitions on what pure mineral makeup is, its history, explanation of color, what to avoid, step-by-step instructions, where to find ingredients, beautiful pictures and much more. Anyone who is serious about making their own makeup and saving money is going to love this book!
This book is so much more than it appears to be at first glance. A primer on mineral makeup and what sets mineral makeup apart from most commercially produced products; a description of ingredients and how they are sourced; a treatise on beauty, feeling beautiful, and how makeup enhances rather than conceals; descriptions of colors, pigments, skin tones and undertones, and how to flatter one with the other; how to make and apply your own makeup; how to start a business including packaging, batch sizes, getting your name out there, what to do with test batches, and how to comply with FDA rules. Beautifully photographed with models of many ethnicities and skin tones, made up with a wide variety of looks and always with the recipes clearly labeled. So much information, and a beautiful book to leaf through.
Heather Anderson's new book, "Make Your Own Pure Mineral Makeup" is a book for our times. As the trend to DIY grows everyday, more DIY media emerge. A lot are repetitive - not this book. There are so few books about making usable, healthy cosmetics. Most of them deal with lotions, creams, bath salts, maybe some lip balms. But no real eye, lip or other facial cosmetics.
This book does it all for mineral makeup (which I prefer - Mineral Fusion is one). Where to buy the raw materials, what components are necessary for compounding the cosmetics, how to make and blend them, how to store them, etc. In short, everything you need to know about sourcing, making, using and sharing your delightful cosmetic creations.
The book is well-written and illustrated. She writes in a clear and approachable manner which most reasonably interested readers can understand. I think that after reading the book I can formulate and compound my own mineral makeup and be very happy with it.
If you want to DIY with cosmetics, this is the book for you! A great read!
