While this book would be considered a romance, and touches on the effects of a lie-of-omission to a relationship, for me it is more about what effects a family member’s suicide has on others. I personally have been affected by a suicide. And while (unlike Saige) I was not there to witness it, nor there right after, I knew the struggle of trying to understand what drove my younger brother to do this. I am affected every year on the anniversary of that day, every holiday, and, most especially, his birthday. And, while I do not have the nightmares that Saige has, there are undoubtedly many people around the world who have experienced what Saige did.
My hope is that anyone who reads this story, and/or knows someone who has experienced what Saige did, can now understand (even if just a little bit) that sometimes the past isn’t as nice for some as it is for others. And that sometimes, when someone has an off day, there may be more to it than what you are lead to believe.
I had such high hopes for this book and for some reason it just fell flat for me. I think I wanted it to be more risque than it was. Or more emotional. I honestly don't know, I just know this one didn't check my boxes.
You know when you finish a book and you want to immediately buy every single book that author has published with fingers crossed they will all be like this one? Yeah, that's how I feel. I really enjoyed this author's writing and the way she SURPRISED me with this story. This blurb doesn't seem to do this story justice and it was so much MORE than I thought it was going to be.
Absolutely phenomenal storyline. Saige takes a dare - who can deny a dare - and Holt is ensnared with her. He will try anything to get another shot with Saige.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book, as it brought out all the feels and emotions throughout each page. Overall, this book was a quick read and it was (sadly) over before I knew it. Saige is a young professional who just got her dream job working in the exact field that she wants. Holt is co-owner of an aviation company where Saige works. After a dare from co workers to ask out her boss, Saige and Holt start the beginning of a relationship full of passion. However, Holt is holding onto a secret. While predictable, the secret is still a shock when the words on the pages outline the exact secret being held. When revealed, this secret is what creates a roller coaster of emotion with both characters, as the reader wonders whether all will be happy in paradise, or if this is what breaks them apart.
I definitely recommend this read, just be sure to have tissues around as well as a couple hours of uninterrupted time as you wont want to put this book down.
You know when you finish a book and you want to immediately buy every single book that author has published with fingers crossed they will all be like this one? Yeah, that's how I feel. So what's so special about this book? My #1 favorite thing in a book is when the guy chases the girl. Call me old fashioned but I want my Hero's so enamored with the heroine that the pursue them relentlessly. Nothing makes me happier!
I loved the mystery as the story unfolded. Holt knew more about Saige than what he was letting on and I wanted to know the secret he was keeping. The only thing that kept this book from being perfect for me was Saige's constant pushing Holt away, but then it also showed how much Holt was willing to do to make her his. Loved it! ARC provided by NetGalley.
Dare me was for me a mediocre book. It had not so unique interesting plot for me. The characters were developed but average. I didn’t like Saige so much, the way she treated Holt with some reserve her being scare to love and be loved I didn’t like that at all. Holt was ok guy who fell instantly for Saige very fast. And I liked his determination and not giving up on Saige. A predictable love story without much of twist or surprises.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
Dare Me was a little bit tough for me to read. The book starts out with an epilogue of one of our main characters, Saige Phillips, hearing a gun shot and running to the barn to find that her father had killed himself on her 13th birthday. I just lost my Dad a couple of months ago and while it was not quite as violent as what happened to Saige, her feeling held back and having dreams/nightmares/memories of her Dad throughout the book made me have to stop a few times throughout to compose myself. I don't usually find myself crying reading a romance novel, but hey, there's a first time for everything.
The rest of the book picks up with Saige out of college and getting a job as an interior designer at a company that sells private jets. She becomes close with her core group of coworkers and they ask her out for happy hour on a Friday night that results in a game of Truth or Dare. The boss, Holt Hamilton, who is super hot ends up at the bar as well and when Saige's turn comes around, they dare her to ask him out for drinks. Saige can't resist a dare so she asks him - and he says YES!
Their whirlwind romance begins - but Saige seems determined to keep Holt at a distance and not open up her heard again. Also - Holt seems to make a reference to something about her 'last name' that stuck with me throughout the rest of the story. A bit of a mystery - and there are some conversations that are overheard where I started to piece things together. I won't give too much away, as it does end up being a major plot point near the end of the book - but pay attention to all the details and see if you can figure it out early too.
I really liked this book and the author's writing style - and I'm in luck - this is the first book in a series! Hopefully I'll be able to snag the others on NetGalley as well. I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
