This book is insanely interesting and I never would have thought this stuff actually occurs!

Was interesting, but not quite what I expected. So going in with the wrong idea/expectation definitely made a difference in how I felt overall. I still found it a very interesting read tho, so it isn't like I felt it was time wasted.

The content is not as salacious as the subject may suggest, but it is a page-turner. Reading the passages where the author was in one of the many harrowing meetings with mobsters put me on the edge of my seat. There's a bit of name-dropping and the tone is somewhat generic, as is the case with many memoirs written by people who aren't writers, but the story is fast-paced and engaging.

I mist start by saying, I started reading this book and it drew me in from page 1. I could not put it down to the point I was late for work the next day!!!The subject matter is very serious, but the another's way of telling how things transpired will make you laugh. The writing is very good, the book just flows. This book needs to be made into a movie, it is that good. It has it all, strip club, mafia, FBI, etc. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I was given a copy of this book from Netgalley and BenBella Books for review.

A rocket ride of a story. This book pulled me in and kept me there right up through the epilogue. Such a bizarre yet true story, that I kept shaking my head all through it at things that kept happening. Blutrich's writing is sardonic and funny and keeps a good pace. He's a gay lawyer who started the first sports/strip club SCORES in New York in the 1990's which quickly became a hit. At that time there weren't any classy gentlemen's clubs in New York, and it really took off. Next thing he knows, he's being shaken down by the mob, and has his own legal problems brewing from an insurance embezzlement scheme he'd gotten caught up in out of Florida when he was raising capital for the club.

Now the FBI is after him to take care of his Florida problems by collecting evidence on the mob in exchange for lenience. Things get crazy and twisted in all directions, told in Blutrich's hilarious manner Filled with lots of drama from all of the different people he comes in contact with: the mob guys, celebrities, sports stars, politicians and law enforcement. A very engaging read with surprises at many turns.

Scores: How I Opened the Hottest Strip Club in New York City, Was Extorted out of Millions by the Gambino Family, and Became One of the Most Successful Mafia Informants in FBI History by Michael D. BLUTRICH was received direct from the publisher. I have heard of this strip club, which may be a teller of my age. I do not have any idea why or how I am familiar with the place, as I don't now nor have ever lived in New York City. This true story takes the mafia, Howard Stern, unbridled corruption from everyone involved, throw in some lawyers (go figure), the FBI, murderous Albanians and typical people from New York, and weaves quite the tale of how to Project Manage in the late 20hth Century. if you like true stories that are not "yay, everything is so nice and people are so awesome," but more true to how things really happen, this may be just the book for you, or whomever you are buying gifts for.

4 Stars

It's books like this that make me realize I live a rather boring and mundane life. Seriously? How do people get themselves into these situations? And more importantly, how is this guy still breathing??

Anyways, on to the review. I enjoyed this one. The Mafia stuff was fascinating. The Scores stuff entertaining. The author had an engaging voice that kept me turning the pages.

Overall just a really entertaining read.
