When Raquel wakes up one day in college, things feel a bit weird - and get weirder when birds fall from the air, the sky turns a funny colour and it begins raining giant rocks that promptly kill Raquel. When she wakes up, it's two years in the past and she's 16 again. She soon discovers that there are others who experienced the end of the world and sent back in time, and they have to work out what happened and how to save the world.
This was....okay? I thought the time travel the teens discovered they could do and how they looked back at other civilisation ending catastrophes to figure what happened to them was quite interesting, and not something I've read about before. But overall, everything seemed a bit too easy for them and how they figured everything out (the end was a bit anti-climatic too). There wasn't really an explanation as to how they ended up time travelling, and how their powers worked other than 'Memory' as well as why Chris and Raquel were the only ones together and who knew each other from before. I did keep laughing as well in how Raquel kept stressing how much mature and adult she was from her 16 year old friends because she was mentally 18 and had experienced one whole semester in college, and while yes I see her point, there isn't actually that much difference from 16 and 18. It would have made a bit more sense if she was mentally 21 and had to time travel back to her 16 year old self.
By far, this is my favourite. Gosh, everyone should read this. Super interesting plot and with amazing characters and very well written. You can read it in one sitting and boom, you're going to loving it.
The book makes you wonder a lot and will explain to you clearly of why and why. Thus, you would not never feel bored reading this.
This book was short and fun with a unique and compelling premise. The delivery wasn't quite as effective as it could have been and I felt the main characters lacking in believability.
Wow. This was not at all what I expected...but I really liked it. Yes, I read the whole thing in one sitting. It's an easy read, but the story is fast-paced and the characters engaging. My only complaint is that I really didn't like the ending, but at least it had an ending, so I'm thankful for that! Hooray for stand-alone novels! While it started out feeling like every other apocalyptic novel out there, it shifted into something that is actually quite unique. I read a lot (and apocalyptic stories are a favorite genre of mine!), so being able to give me something truly unique is a gift!
I was very interested in the premise of this book, but unfortunately it just wasn't for me. I wasn't compelled by the characters or the narration, which read very young to me despite the characters being older teens. I would still absolutely recommend this book for younger readers interested in science fiction and apocalyptic stories.
I really wanted to love this book. But it just never got there for me.
The beginning of the story was very intriguing and the concept was something that I definitely have never read before. But about 45% of the way through, it lost my attention and enthusiasm. I felt that I never really connected with majority of the characters. The boy was annoying and we never really got any back story to any of the 'others'. I would have loved to see just a few paragraphs about where they come from, what they experienced in the event, etc.
And then that ending... oh man was that hard to even figure out what was going on. It ended very abruptly, which does make sense for what they were trying to do throughout the whole book, but I just felt like I wanted more. I don't know if it was the writing or just the story, but I could not picture what they were trying to do. Mostly, I think, because it was only mentioned in passing and never really explained of how they could do it, they just 'could'.
Overall, I didn't dislike it. I did finish it and I was never not going to either, I really needed to see what was going to happen to everyone in the end. I would read another book by this author though, maybe the story just needs a bit more finagling.
Eighteen year old Raquel witnesses the end of the world. The last thing she sees is her imminent death and then she wakes up.
It is two years, she's back in High School and the only other person who remembers the end -- is her old classmate Chris Lyley. Chris Lyley the guy she always thought was a "loser". Together they find out "powers" they have such as teleportation.
They come across a few others like them. They group together and try to determine what caused the end and figure out a way to prevent the sixth extinction event from happening.
They teleport from one extinction event to another to figure out if it matches they one the witnessed so they can figure out how to save mankind.
The characters are well developed and the story line keeps you turning the pages. I also found myself doing research on previous extinction events. The author has clearly done her research, giving this book a "real" spin on things.
I am looking forward to more reads from this author. This is an excellent debut novel. It is riveting and engaging.

This is a super fast apocalyptic YA novel with a cool plot and some great characters. The writing in this is fantastic and the author takes you on a unique adventure. If you are looking for something a little more original and love a good catastrophe, then this is the YA book for you.
