I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to read a preview copy of this book from Netgalley. My reason for requesting it was innocent enough: I thought I might like to try some of the recipes from this author because she seems to be an expert on the subject of juicing and smoothies. What I wasn’t expecting was all the information on fasting. As a Christian, I have fasted in the past; although, due to work, family and too much on my schedule at times, it’s been a few years.
In this book, the author talks about several different kinds of fasts and the benefits of fasting. I found some of the advantages to be incredibly astonishing. Of course, you might lose a few pounds—which I regained so quickly in the past, I’m not so sure I’d count that one. The other advantages are health related: healing faster; adverse health conditions improving or even going away completely; and improvements to appearance. Who knew?
There are recipes for : smoothies, juice, pancakes, overnight soaked muesli, salads, soups and stews. I did not expect any recipes beyond juice, and I was pleasantly surprised by this variety.
This is all very doable for me and I hope to try one of these fasts in the summer when I can take some time off because for me, the spiritual aspect of a fast is the most important part. All the rest is just icing on the cake.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I wanted to read this book because I have never tried fasting for long periods of time, let alone consumed juice during the whole time. This book has some interesting tasting recipes that I would not have tried myself!
If you are new to fasting, and juicing then this is a book for you to try. Easy tips and recipes to follow.
I have been following Dr. Cherie Calbom for a while. When I saw that she had a new book out, I had to read it. I'm a big fan of juicing for health. In her book, The Juice Lady's Guide to Fasting, she goes over a lot of issues and what juices to help each ailment. It's a very good read, chocked full of juicy information. I'm so glad that she came out with another book.
Dieting with the detox drinks and tea by the famous Juice lady with the recipe for each drink.......
I fell in love with juicing a few years ago. I started making a green juice for breakfast every morning in January 2014 and had hopes of doing a juice fast. I did quite a bit of research on juice fasts but I never actually did a fast. I have always loved the idea of fasting but if I don't eat within a certain amount of time I start to have problems. Many of my migraines are triggered by lack of food and if I don't eat for several hours I get these horrible shakes and brain fog. Fearing these side effects has been what has kept me from attempting a juice fast.
After reading The Juice Lady's Guide to Fasting by Cherie Calbom I can say that the fire is lit in me again. There are many different types of fasts in the book that you can choose from and the author does a wonderful job of explaining everything. There are numerous recipes that you can try as well as explanations about various supplements that you should be taking for your health.
I also love how the author talks about examples of fasting in the Bible and the fact that fasting is a form of disciplining our bodies. When we take the focus off food it can open the door to a more intimate relationship with God.
Anyone who has ever been curious about fasting or juicing should read this book. They don't call her The Juice Lady for nothing!
The Juice Lady's Guide to Fasting is quite a comprehensive look at fasting. It looks at several different types of fasts and also what their purposes are. I was thinking it would be a book solely about juice fasting which I was wanting to learn more about, and not several different types of fasting. The many different directions of this subject matter caused me to lose interest in the book, but as I said I was expecting just information about a juice fast. I think this book is great for someone looking for what the best fast is for them and I think it has a lot of useful information.
I have to tell you there were some well - disgusting things she tells you about your body and detoxing and what it does to your body and what it specifically did to hers - if what it did to her - did to mine - I would have gone to the emergency room and would have been scared to death and disgusted - she was proud - to each his own - I would not tell you - one for you to read it on your own and two it would totally grouse you out - but once you get past all of that and that is one whole chapter - she gets onto the fasting - and then she got me - but then she didn't get me - she taught me a lot about fasting and how serious it is and how important it is to bring your close to GOD - to hear HIS voice and feel HIS presence - but juicing has nothing to do with it - GOD does not say anything about juicing in the Bible = so for me this book was ok if a friend GAVE it to me to read - I may have read it all the way through but maybe not - it was interesting - it honestly did get me thinking about juicing - which could have been her other motive..
Pretty good book. But I found it very similar to many of the books already found at our library.
