This sneak peek reminded me of how much I liked Passenger and how much I look forward to reading the sequel (and entire book) Wayfarer :)
This is the sneek peak for book 2 in this series, I haven't read book 1 yet... sorry!
Really excited by this preview. I have purchased the full book and can't wait to read it.
After falling head-over-heels in love with Passenger, I was ready to love Wayfarer. Unfortunately, I can say I walked away disappointed.
Plot: The hardest thing about cracking Wayfarer open was trying to desperately remember what happened in Passenger. Bracken was a dream and created an amazing infographic to catch up readers, but that still wasn't enough for me. I had forgotten certain terminologies and key plot points which Bracken didn't really take the time to reintroduce. I think that was part of the reason why I didn't have the best reading experience. Wayfarer was full of action and some great insight to Etta's family. Where I thought Passenger focused on characters and developing Etta and Nicholas' relationship, Wayfarer delved into the history of the atrolabe and seemed to be nothing but 'go go go'. For all the building and tension of Wayfarer, the ended wasn't what I expected.
Characters: In Passenger, we saw that Etta had a rocky relationship with her mother, and Wayfarer does a fantastic job highlighting Rose Linden's past and the history of travelers. On the other hand, it seemed like Bracken couldn't find a proper balance for her characters. I fell in love with Passenger because of Etta and Nicholas' dynamic. Their relationship is missing entirely from Wayfarer, instead, we got chapters and chapters of astrolabe history and action. I'm all for characters being a part to find their independence and grow more, but it felt like the majority of their story was only in Passenger. Sophia plays a larger role in Wayfarer, and I loved all of the nuggets of her history that Bracken gave us. While there was some mention in regards to her sexuality and relationship with Li Min, I was expecting more.
Worldbuilding: Just like in Passenger, Wayfarer impressed me with its description of lush worlds and I looked forward to exploring new places. I found that our characters didn't travel as much in Wayfarer as in Passenger, but I found the locations to be interesting and served a purpose to moving the story along.
Short N Sweet: Wayfarer isn't as strong of a novel as Passenger, but it is still a good read for history buffs.
Wayfarer, much anticipated sequel and conclusion to the Passenger sequence, begins of enthralling, throwing you back into a much loved world. Wayfarer doesn't let you down, with revealing secrets from the past, and events and revelations that changes history as we know it. I highly recommend this sequence, for it has everything - time travel, romance, kick-ass females, and a lot more. Check it out & discover your own reasons for loving it!
A sneak peek that left me wanting more. I can't wait to read this book in its entirety! A combination of romance and adventure that I just can't resist!
Loved this sneak peek book. Great star to the sequel. Can't wait to read more of the book to find how it ends
The opening is graffic and sets up a very violent plot but then we jump about in the story and you have to work to keep up.
Etta is a very young frightened girl when we first meet her and then we jump to her as an adult and we start to fill in what has happened to her in the gaps. We learn that she is special and able to time travel but it appears she does this randomly.
I found myself having to pay close attention to know what was going on and drawn into the story as a result.
I really enjoyed the ideas the story raised and want to finish the novel to find out what really is going on.
The twists and turns change both history and what is the truth. It is an emotional rollercoaster as Etta goes from one crisis to the next.
I will definately be reading the full novel to fund it what happens to Etta.
I received a free copy from netgalley.com for my fair and honest review.
Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken is so good! I devoured it so fast. Etta Spencer lost the one thing that could help her save the timeline and she doesn't know where she is. She ended up somewhere in history but doesn't know what time period she is in. Then Etta receives help from Julian Ironwood. The Julian Ironwood that is supposed to be dead. Etta finds herself in a power struggle between the major two traveling families.
While Etta is trying to figure out her situation, Nicholas and Sophia are trying to track Etta down. Everyone is searching for the astrolobe in order to change the timeline. When Nicholas and Sophia come across a mercenary-for-hire named Li Min, and they team up for awhile. During this time LI Min makes it known that she has feelings for Sophia.
I really like Wayfarer. I thought Bracken did a wonderful job with the second half of this story. The secondary characters are phenomenal. I loved getting to know Julian Ironwood, Henry Hemlock, and Li Min. These characters really make the story and they are excellent.
Etta really comes into her own in this book. She fights for what she wants. I was rooting for her like crazy. Even though obstacles keep coming her way, she thrives and continues to push towards her goals. Etta not only wants to find the astrolobe but she wants to find Nicholas too. I love that Etta and Nicholas have a love for each other that survives through their separation. I am disappointed that the two didn't have more face time together.
Even though Passenger had a rough start, this duology is amazing. Wayfarer is so good. Bracken did a great job with the writing and the story. Even though the ending isn't as happily ever after as I wanted, I still thought it is really good. I highly recommended Passenger and Wayfarer.
In this preview form NetGalley, I have to say within the first few paragraphs I was hooked. This preview has me wanting more. I will be purchasing this book.
I can't wait to read the full version!! I'm glad I have this sitting on my shelf.
This sneak peak was absolutely wonderful, I loved Passenger and the ending of that was amazing, I know that this book will be even better. I will be posting a review of the full book review on my Goodreads, Insragram, and Tumblr very soon because I finished just received the other day this book and it will be my next read.
This review is for the entire book.
Wayfarer is one of the most fascinating books I've ever read when it comes to the time travel aspects, but I wish it would have been a bit shorter. Wayfarer is the sequel to Passenger, and if you check out that review, you will see the first paragraph says almost exactly the same thing.
I think Wayfarer starts shortly after Passenger ends. But my first issue with the book is that it didn't give me enough reminders about what happened in Passenger. I read it a year ago, and the details are fuzzy. I know there's a fine line when it comes to recaps. I certainly don't what a review of the entire story, but some authors do a better job of just dropping reminders every once in a while. I was lost at times, especially trying to remember all the names and relationships.
We switch POVs (and times) between Etta and Nicolas as they try to find each other as well as the astrolabe. They encounter several people who help them and several that are trying to stop them. Almost everyone is lying about something. During the first half of the book, they are mostly jumping from time to time, building relationships and investigating, but they aren't getting any closer to each other or to the astrolabe. It just goes on and on. The book turned out to be over 500 pages long, so there isn't a need to pad the story. Once we get to the second half, the pace ramps up a bit and you can feel the tension mounting as we reach the stunning conclusion.
It isn't that the writing is bad. The descriptions are beautiful. The setting and characterizations are vivid. There's just too much setup before we get to the action.
I really enjoyed the end. It was unexpected and intriguing. It is refreshing to have a two-book series for a change. I will recommend Wayfarer to my time travel fans for sure.
Based on the available preview, I can't wait to finish Wayfarer. I ordered and received my copy in complete excitement. No one writes like Alexandra Bracken. She's one of my favorites in YA fantasy, for her heart-stopping plots, skillful world-building, and authentic characters. Wayfarer is an excellent followup to the masterful Passenger, and adds another high note to her growing bibliography.
This book was so good. I enjoyed it more than the first one. I especially liked that they were able to stay in some of the areas and times longer. The cover is beautiful and the ending wrapped things up perfectly.
I received a digital sampler so I can't review but I absolutely love this series with all my heart and Alexandra Bracken is the Queen. Time travel, die hard romance and a thrilling ride this is seriously a book everyone should read.
This sneak peek was so good that I couldn't wait for the book to come out. I wish it had been a full galley!
Just bought a couple of physical copies for my students. We are extremely excited. Thanks for sneak peek.
