A nice book with a variety of patterns for different levels of knitters. I would buy this or give it to a friend.
We like to make knitted cloths on our own for our kids. It is a great pleasure to see our kids wearing the dress made by us...... The tutorial were great
Well, I received an advanced reader's copy of this book with no photographs, so it's hard to judge whether the baby knits really are adorable – but the one on the cover is, and the instructions look clear, and the design of the book is attractive. Um.
The usual disclaimer: I received this book via Netgalley for review.
A very nice selection of baby knits, ranging in difficulty from advanced beginner to intermediate. Nicely photographed and clear instructions. While my preference is for top-down garments that don't require a lot of seaming or finishing work, the patterns presented here are cute enough to go to the extra effort of sewing sleeves separately, etc. Recommended.
I am a huge fan of knitting and am also 17 weeks pregnant so jumped at the chance to be able to get my hands on this book! I have my eye on a couple of the hats and the fringed cardigan to make straight away. The patterns I have picked are easy to follow and there are some more advanced designs too. Really looking forward to getting to grips with the new patterns - off to buy the wool ready tomorrow so I can get them made ready for when my little girl arrives!
I definitely felt that the name of this pattern book. ADORABLE BABY KNITS, was completely fitting. All 26 knitting patterns are, in fact, completely adorable.
The book offers a nice variety of items, from booties to hats to sweaters and even to one blanket. Unlike the case with many baby pattern books, there is also some variety in the weight of yarn used for the patterns. While the majority call for what we knitters tend to think of as "baby weight" (DK), two of the sweater patterns do call for Aran weight yarn. All of the patterns offer sizes from newborn to 18 months, which also allows for some variety.
My reason for only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is actually a matter of preference. I noted that a lot of the sweaters require seaming because of the drop shoulder design and for a knitter like me, who does not seam as well as I knit, drop shoulders are a pattern turn off.
Yes, these are adorable--the knits themselves as well as the babies. However, the facial expressions on a few of the infants made me laugh. One in particular looked like she was saying, "hey, what are you doing to me!" As with other recent Dover craft book offerings, the color palette is pleasing and the layout is well-organized. And this time, the page borders, headers, and background hues are formatted in tone on tone classic, pastel baby colors. General instructions about yarn and stitches are provided along with abbreviations. These patterns are not for the novice knitter but more ambitious types will enjoy the challenge of creating the designs. We especially liked the fringed and looped sweaters.
The title is very apt...adorable baby knits are plentiful here! I would've liked to see less seaming and more patterns in the round, but all in all, lots of cute babies wearing cute sweaters and other knits is always a good thing. I also appreciated that the yarn recommendations are reasonably priced and appropriate for babies (i.e. - machine washable), which isn't always the case in pattern books.
Adorable Baby Knits by Jody Long
Takes a while for the book to load in due to high content of the photography but well worth it.
Talks about different aspects of making the outfits-if you can substitute yarns, needles needed, stitiches explained and glossary of terms.
First project starts out with blocks and skill level shown and charts so you can work the rows. Not very complicated and easy to follow along.
Next project is booties and they look and are easy to make. Abbreviations and stitches used are described in detail and row by row instructions are given for many different sizes.
Every pattern has its own photograph, highly detailed and close up.
Such adorable color combinations and great garments to make for any child living in any climate.
Acknowledgements and sources for supplies is listed at the end.
Liked this book because of the variety of patterns and stitches used. My favorite to try would be the rosette blanket so I could make it larger or smaller sizes.
Love the cabled items as those are the ones that draw me to a book. Something for everybody, boys and girls alike, to start out with in this book.
Received a digital copy for review via Dover Publications via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.
Some adorable patterns and even more adorable baby photos! Clear instructions and nice schematics and diagrams. I would have liked some more photos of some of the patterns, to see it from different angles, but appreciate that babies are difficult to work with ;-)
There were some really adorable baby hats among the patterns, that I'm looking forward to casting on.
This is full of cute designs with instructions that look easy to follow.
I'm not a fan of specifically pink and blue graphics for certain projects making them seem as if only one sex can wear the and not the other. However I do like that two of the patterns did have instructions to be able to convert the garment so that either a boy or a girl could wear it.
