Even as an adult I return to Where the Wild Things Are. Cott’s book examines how Maurice Sendak grew up and the history that may have contributed to some of the darker themes you can pick up on in Sendak’s books. The interviews with Sendak were very interesting. So much with children’s books, I never have really thought about the creative process or the background of the author and this book really challenged me to think about the complexities that lead to an iconic children’s author and children’s book. I think children’s authors do not get the attention they deserve and this book highlighted why that should change.
A really interesting book that offers insight into the man who created the weirdest and wildest children's books.
