This was a really great story. I love strong female characters that know what they want and aren't afraid to get it even though it goes against society's expectations. I thought the build up of tension between Caro and Adrian was perfect so that when they finally got together it felt right and not rushed or forced. I also loved the family of supporting characters. They were really different from the normal uptight families of the ton and it was refreshing that they backed up Caro and Adrian's relationship. It was also nice that Adrian didn't come off as a womanizer like so many other male characters in historical romance novels. He truly was an honorable man which he proved by not giving in to the second marchioness. I'm looking forward to Pippa's story. I received an arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
My review is live on Goodreads and amazon.
He’s a roughhewn bastard. She’s a rebellious noblewoman. Their passion bridges the class divide in a scintillating novel of forbidden desire and raw sensuality from the USA Today bestselling author of To Lure a Proper Lady.
Lady Caroline Wilde is expected to ride sidesaddle, but she’s not about to embrace convention. She’s also expected to keep a chaste distance from men like Adrian Crosby, the new estate agent, yet she cannot cease her ogling—which is especially irksome considering their ongoing feud. Adrian insists that the fields must be planted; Caro needs those same fields to train her horses. But whenever she tries to put him in his place, Caro looks into his steely gaze and her words simply . . . disappear.
A bastard son who grew up on the Wyvern estate, Adrian was lucky enough to receive an education at the behest of the late marchioness. Now that he has set out on his own, Adrian knows better than to fall for Lady Caroline, the Duke of Sherrington’s daughter. Caroline is at once a thorn in his side and an exquisite temptation, especially when she’s playing the feisty daredevil. Adrian would give anything for a chance to tame her—and with Caro in the saddle, he just might get his wish.
This is a book that's a little unconventional when talking about historical fiction...the heroine is chasing the guy like he's a lit match that she wants to blow out. I really liked it because he tried really hard to resist her and it was cute the way she went after her man in the end. Was this a powerhouse read for me? Not really, but it had a couple nice storylines that I didn't find in the first one and I hadn't planned on reading this one based on the first one. So this one was a really nice surprise. I would definitely read the third if she decides to do one.
The whole premise of this book is that Adrian and Caro meet when they work together to rescue Gus (the son of Dysart, the hero from the previous book). Adrian mistakes Caro for a stable hand, then realizes that she is a woman. He is attracted to her and wonders about her position on the estate. When he finds out she's his employer, he tells himself to keep his distance. Caro is intrigued by Adrian, she is also aware of their social differences and tells herself to stay away too. But the best intentions are paved and all that...After several misunderstandings, her sisters tell her to go after him and that they will stand by her. She does and their scene together is priceless.
I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on Netgalley for a honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.
This is a nice story about people from supposed different classes finding one another and falling in love. He’s dedicated and hard-working. She loves horses, is independent, free spirited and hopes to forever be a spinster so she can continue to run her life as she chooses. Their story is a nice follow-up to the previous book in the series, where her horse played a minor role.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGallery, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Adrian Crosby is a bastard son who grew up on the Wyvern estate where he was educated and became assistant to the estate manager at Wyvern. The Duke of Sherrington is in desperate need of a good steward, the former steward was robbing the estate blind. Adrian has come to the estate to take over as steward and finds Lady Caroline Wilde is going be a thorn in his side. The Lady Caroline has her own ideas about running the estate. He wants to plants certain fields and she needs those same fields to train her horses. Lady Caroline is not your typical heiress, she does not always embrace convention. She wants to hunt with the men, ride astride her horse and prove she’s just as good. Adrian tells himself to keep his distance from the temptation of Lady Caroline after all she’s a Lady and his just a bastard. Lady Caroline is intrigued by Adrian, she is also conscious of their social differences and tells herself to stay away there’s no future for them. Caro and Adrian are thrown together and form a friendship; they learn how to work together. There’s only one problem their attraction is strong, the sexual tension is sizzling as these two fight their feelings and convention. Can Adrian tame the wild Caro? Will Caro fight for her new found love and find a way to be together?
I received an ARC copy from Net Galley and this is my honest review and opinion of this book.
Publisher's Description:

My Thoughts:
This is a well written story of a love that develops between two unlikely people.
Our heroine is the middle daughter of a Duke. Our hero is a bastard son of a tenant and a nobleman although he is unaware of his father's identity.
Well born ladies just don't fall for the hired help and the hired help know their place and would never dally with their employers' daughters.
I liked this read very much and have read other books by this author in the past and certainly will read more by her in the future. She always amazes me with her imagery and character development.
I would give this book 4 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and 3.5 of 5 flames for heat.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title.
I did not like this one as much as I liked the first one in the series. I'm not sure why I didn't like it as much. The characters were ok. I just didn't connect with this book. I will still read other books by this author.
It's like she wrote this book just for me. To Tame a Wild Lady has an abundance of spirit and heart that right away had me invested. I loved Caro she was a spitfire and not afraid to show it. It's not always paramount to have a heroine in need of saving and Ms. MacNamara gets that. Sometimes the hero needs a little saving. Love can build a bridge that can overcome social class, personal objections and any obstacle that stands in the way. With an open mind and an open heart, acceptance from the outside world is irrelevant. Adrian and Caro may have been unconventional in their personalities but the bond they built is as permanent as the sun in the sky. It may come under fire but can withstand the heat.
This was a sweet book about Lady Caroline Wilde and Adrian Crosby, estate agent for Sherrington Manor. Lady Caroline is considered a hoyden because of her time spent riding and caring for her horse not to mention how she dresses. She yearns to be one of the boys so that she can have the freedom she desperately craves. She knows that if she marries she will be expected to live the life of a proper wife and lady. This is something she does not want.
Enter Mr. Adrian Crosby. He is trying to flee his past in order to start over. On his way to the interview he helps two "boys" as one is unconscious in the rain and mud. He manages to get the position in a trial basis and realizes Caro is a handful and someone he must not be drawn to. She is too lofty and unattainable for him.
They dance around each other for a bit until a situation unfolds where there is no turning back. They lose each other but will they do what it takes to get the other back?
It is an enjoyable book for someone looking for something light.
Lady Caroline Wilde is the second daughter of the Duke of Sherrington and a little bit of wild child. Caro would rather spend her days riding her horse, sitting astride, wearing britches instead of wearing fancy gowns. When Caro realizes that Gus, her sister's eleven year old stepson was missing after his horse came back alone, she goes out looking for him in the rainstorm. She finds him knocked out and tries to lift him. All of a sudden a man appears and offers help. Adrian Crosby can't understand why these young boys are out in the rain getting into trouble until he quickly realizes that Caro is no boy! That scene was so fun. Turns out Adrian is coming to Sherrington to interview for the new Estate Agent position and a new attraction is formed. As Caro and Adrian spend more time together their attraction begins to grow even more. Caro doesn't want to be a proper lady, she'd rather just be herself....turns out Adrian enjoys her just how she is!
I love the connection these two had from the beginning. They both genuinely liked each other for whom they actually were. It was a crazy ride these two went on to get to their happy ending but it was a really great story. I loved how different Caro was from other London ladies and I really enjoyed how hands-on and hard working Adrian was.
To Take a Wild Lady
I love a Regency Romance that isn’t just about the haut ton, relationship dramas, the latest styles, or the properties surrounding the 1800’s. To Take a Wild Lady is a book with a different twist. The Lady Caroline is beautiful, spunky, and knows what she wants. In other words a typical heroine. However, she is also more than that, she is strong, independent and caring. Her ability to admit when she is wrong is so refreshing. Lady Caroline’s main objective is to find a way to be invited to the hunt, and to that end, there isn’t much she wouldn’t do, However, after a while, her single-mindedness got a little tiring, and I did wish she would accept a situation she was unable to change. The hero, Adrian Crosby, was just what I want in a hero. He is extremely honorable, intelligent, and of course, gorgeous. After just being hired as the estate agent for Lady Caroline's household, he is always nearby and this makes it easy for our H/h to become better acquainted. Adrian was always there for Caroline, sometimes strong and silent, and other times vocal in his protection of her. I enjoyed watching them cross over the class boundaries and find in each other their soul mate.
Thanks Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept and netgalley for this ARC.
This is just the right mix of rescuing and romance that make a historical romance non stop reading and enjoyment.
Lady Caroline Wilde wants to be independent, to train and breed her horses...but the times mean she is at her father's service..and he means to find her a husband.
After being robbed by their former steward, her brother-in-law searches for an honest man to bring their lands back from the brink of disaster...and he finds Adrian Crosby. A man with secrets of his own, some he doesn't even know at the start of the tale.
It's a well told tale of their developing love with angst, humor, family interaction and a bit of sensuality.
I enjoyed it immensely and know anyone into Historical romances will enjoy it too.
I received a NetGalley ARC to peruse free.
This was a very exciting and thrilling read for all fans. The author has out done herself with a tale of humorous and witty dialog of the characters. I just love these kind of stories where opposites attract.
You have one handsome, proper Adrian Crosby who wants to be employed by the Duke of Sherrington.
He grew up on the estate of Lord Wyvern who in turn educated him to see to management of the land. His mother being a tenant raised him and of course he is illegitimate.
Then one day while riding to his interview he saves two young boys from a drainage ditch because it's raining cats and dogs. One is a boy but the other one is a young woman who is dressed in britches.
Adrian is shocked to see this and helps to take the injured lad to the very estate he's suppose to be at.
When he gets there he is overcome with fascination that this woman is Lady Caroline Wilde who is the daughter of Lord Sherrington. She is an outspoken hoyden who prefers horses to people.
Caro is very strong in her opinions for women and doing things equal to men. She is not afraid of getting her hands dirty in her endeavors. Adrian is very attracted to her and she to him. He knows that nothing can come of their association because of their social stations. But then something wonderful happens. They fall in love anyway. Oh, such a great read and the happy ever after is their destiny.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.
I usually enjoy historical romances, and in this case, there's no exception. Building up to a crescendo, the adventures of Caro and Adrian will keep you glued to this book until the very end.
Wow! I love the banter between these two! There's just something about the constant back and forth that just ups the sexual tension ☺ I love that Caroline isn't the shy Lilly woman are supposed to be . Love me a heroine with a backbone
Macnamara writes excellent romances, with bold heroines and hunky heroes. Caro is a headstrong woman who loves riding and hunting, while Adrian is the estate agent who clashes with her over their plans for the land. The attraction is immediate, but their personalities conflict until they both learn that compromising will bring them closer together. There's a good mix of the main plot and its conflicts, as well as some threads from the previous novel and those that will lead into the third story in the (presumed) trilogy. An excellent read, with both clever plot and steamy romance.
I enjoyed this book. I'd really give it more like 3.5 stars, but that isn't a choice and it was good enough to round up to 4 rather than down to 3. It was slow and steady with no really exciting, threatening, suspenseful times. It just told a straightforward story of a romance between two people who came from two very different stations in society. She was the daughter of a duke and he was the estate agent and a bastard. I know this description sounds dull, but it really wasn't. However, if you like a heart-stopping kidnapping or robberies by bandits, etc. this book isn't for you.
I really liked and admired Adrian Crosby. He is all the things you'd want a hero in a romance novel to be: caring, protective, thoughtful, considerate, honest, up-front -- and well -- a hunk to boot! Adrian rescued Caro (Lady Caroline) and her nephew when he was on his way to her father's estate to interview for the estate agent position. She was covered in mud and dressed like a stable lad. Boy was he shocked when he was introduced to her later as the daughter of the duke and she was dressed in silks.
I liked Lady Caroline a whole lot less. She was hell-bent on being accepted to ride to the hunt. She put that before everything in her life, even to the detriment of the estate. Their last estate manager was a crook and embezzled much of the estates funds and stole a great many valuable items from the house. In order to recoup and become profitable again, they needed to plant crops on certain fields, but Caro wouldn't allow it because she used it to practice her hunting skills. She gave no thought to anything but herself and what she wanted. I was amazed that she managed to fall in love with Adrian -- but when she fell, she fell hard. There wasn't any great angst in it -- she loved him and believed what he told her. She was even willing to sell her prized hunting horse in order to be able to be with him. So -- she did have her redeeming qualities.
I don't like spoilers, so I won't tell the story step-by-step.
It was a good read and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't so exciting that I couldn't put it down.
"I requested and received this book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher."
I enjoyed this book more than the first one in this series. It may be because I was horse mad when I was younger and understand Lady Caroline's obsession with riding. She's determined to ride her wonderful jumper in a hunt. Only ladies don't ride in hunts.
Adrian Crosby has taken the job as estate manager on the Sherrington estate after the previous manager stole from the Duke. He wants to make the estate more profitable by planting the fields that lay empty. Caroline wants those fields for her hunt.
Their mutual attraction and conflicts make a very enjoyable read. I look forward to younger sister Pippa's story.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC. Release date is January 31st.
Lady Caroline Wilde, the Duke of Sherrington’s headstrong daughter is in a pickle. She has lost her 11-year-old step nephew, Gus, while riding in the rain. Going back to look for him, she finds him, thrown from a horse, besides a stream, unconscious with blue lips. Which isn’t good. As she struggles to lift him on her horse, Boudicca, she is helped by a man who happened to be passing by.
Adrian Crosby is on his way for an interview at the Sherrington Manor when he notices two children struggling in the mud next to a horse. Going to help them, he is shocked to find out that one of the children is actually a woman dressed in breeches. He was scandalized (remember the era!!) and brings the boy, and the woman, to the manor for help. Once he’s there, he is again shocked to find out that the woman he helped is The Duke of Sherrington’s middle daughter, Caroline.
Adrian is offered the job as an estate agent and his first order of business is to cultivate some fallow fields. Unfortunately, Caroline has plans for those fields. What she was going to do is host a hunt in those fields and try to get into another, more desirable hunt. So to say that she was not very happy with his plans are an understatement.
As this is happening, there are strange happening around the household. Caroline’s horse keeps getting let out and the stable hands are at a loss as to how it is happening. Gus is slowly recovering from his head wound and keeps giving the maid who is supposed to be watching him the slip. Holes are showing up all over Sherrington lands and that causes the horse Caroline is riding to stumble and throw her…..spraining her ankle.
Caroline is also fending off a dastardly man by the name of Marcus Pendleton. He is trying to get her horse, Boudicca, and has being going through extreme measures to try to get her. That includes having his stallion nearby to breed with Boudicca when she comes into season (and it does happen).
Adrian, however, is dealing with his own issues as the estate agent. He steps in and helps a maid by the name of Sadie who is being abused by her stepfather. He offers her a position as a nursemaid in the Sherrington house. But Sadie has other plans. Plans that could not bode well for Adrian or Caroline.
While all of this drama is happening, Caroline and Adrian are growing closer and closer. Adrian has a few secrets that he would rather that Caroline not find out and Caroline, well she is determined to find out.
Will Caroline find out Adrian’s secrets? Will Pendleton get his slimy hands on Boudicca? Will Gus learn to listen to his elders? Will they find out who has dug the holes? Will Caroline and Adrian be together despite their difference in stations?
Guess you need to read the book to find out.
*****************************
Caroline really annoyed me in this book. She wouldn’t listen and argued with Adrian over everything. Heck, a prime example would be when Boudicca was in season and being difficult to handle. He advised her not to take her out and what does she do….takes her out to spite him. Seriously, I wanted to throttle her.
She also was very impulsive and couldn’t care less about her reputation. I mean, heck, she was going glass for glass with Pendleton because she wanted to show she could be just as good as a man. All because she wanted ride in a hunt and show her horsemanship off. Again, I wanted to throttle her.
I did feel bad for Adrian. Not only is he dealing with the spoiled, impulsive middle daughter of his employer but he has to deal with tenants who have their own agendas. I seriously felt that he needed a medal for everything that he dealt with there.
He also needed one for the stuff he dealt with at his previous employer. When it came out why his ex-employer’s wife acted the way she did, I was a little shocked. Actually a lot shocked. I didn’t see it coming in the book (kudos to the author to keeping that secret well hidden with only a few hints).
The romance between Caroline and Adrian didn’t feel right to me. It felt forced in a way. Almost like Caroline was thumbing her nose at her station. The attraction was there but I honestly can’t pinpoint where they fell in love with each other and that kinda bothers me. Usually I can pick it out and I couldn’t.
The end of the book was pretty standard…with a HEA and everything.
How many stars will you give To Tame a Wild Lady: 3
Why: I give the author major props for trying to make a Regency era woman a feminist outlook. I really do. Too bad I couldn’t get past Caroline’s chip on her shoulder. I also felt that the romance between her and Adrian was forced. There is a pretty good plotline, though, and the secondary characters really came alive in this book.
Will I reread: No
Will I recommend to family and friends: Maybe.
Age Range: Adult
Why: Sex and some mild violence. No language
