A deep dive into how to live long and prosper. Go vegan!

This utterly astounding! I read (skimmed) the first edition of The China Study a few years ago when my vegan friend pointed me to it and loaned me her copy. I was still a carnivore with minimal health issues. I gained a lot from it and did make some dietary changes and was able to keep them. In the last year and a half, I became pescetarean (vegetarian that eats fish). I live on the Gulf Coast and couldn't justify giving up fresh caught seafood, especially shrimp. But, anyway...I also loved my dairy products.

Now it's almost two years later and in that time I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 8.1. That's quite high! I've gained more weight as I am a middle aged woman with insulin resistance. I began following the very strict plan of my diabetes educator and attended classes with a lot of follow up. I also fired up my fitbit and got in my 10,000 plus steps a day. I was told to exercise and it was one of the strongest ways to bring down BG. It all helped. But, my numbers were still not in normal range oftentimes.

Fortunately for me, another GR friend (Stephanie) told me that NetGalley had this revised edition available for request and I was provided it (thank you so much NetGalley!) months ago. Life became somewhat busy and I was just able to pick this up again as I finally got my husband to watch the documentary Forks Over Knives with me. The China Study is a big part of the documentary. We both were amazed. And my husband is the big skeptic out there for the idea of "food being thy medicine". We began going thru this book together and he is getting on board (somewhat ) as well!!!!!!!! Miracle of all miracles!

Finally, I can honestly say after following a WFPBD (whole foods plant based diet) now for 2.5 weeks (no animal products, low fat) I am losing weight (8 lbs so far) and my BG is in normal range consistently, every day 2 times per day. When I go back for my next A1C test, I think my doctor will take me off my meds. That makes me so happy! This is my plan for life. And it is not hard.

The China Study showed us that diseases of affluence can be reversed with a WFPBD. Cancer, RA ( I have it), heart disease, diabetes ...It's really that simple. We don't need animal products for our protein. There is plenty of it in the plants we eat....the whole foods, whole grain plants. We don't need cow's milk for calcium. It is in plants. We can fully exist and THRIVE on a WFPBD.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for providing me a digital copy of this new and revised edition to review. I highly recommend it for EVERYONE. Save a life. Do it today. It's important!
