Letty Tinsley’s brother went missing after traveling west during the California Gold Rush. Letty takes it upon herself to find out what happened to him. Traveling alone, she is assisted by a friend of her brother’s, a friend she’s not sure she can trust.
This wasn’t a bad book. It is a pretty clean cut and straight-forward story. It shows a strong and determined independent woman in a time when women weren’t really allowed to be independent. I look forward to reading more from this author.

To be reviewed on Goodreads and my blog when I return from overseas in a few days.
I'll admit I'm a sucker for tales of women traveling west - this is a pretty good addition to the canon. Letty is an intrepid adventurer and while she doesn't really need Gareth, he certainly comes in handy. Kennedy has written an entertaining fast read (I would have liked it to be longer). I hadn't read her before but I'm going to look for her again- thanks to netgalley for the introduction.
Letty Tinsley is heartbroken to learn that her brother who has been searching for gold in California is nowhere to be found. She takes it upon herself to travel to San Francisco through the Ithmus of Panama. The trip is difficult and long but she meets again a friend of her brother's on the way, Garth Morgan. Sparks fly between them but things don't go smoothly. Interesting historical novel with a hint of romance. I enjoyed the story and really appreciated reading about the difficult crossing of Panama in the days before the Panama Canal.
Gold Rush Bride by Shirley Kennedy will be available February 7, 2017 from Kensington Books Corp. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
