I liked this story a lot I liked the plot . this also kept my attention which I liked. This was well written. I also choked up at times. I loved the surprises in this book. I loved the ending also. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.
At its bones, this is a second chances love story but has a real element of suspense running throughout. I was interested and captivated and couldn't wait to find out how everything was going to unfold. I loved the pacing of this story; it's quite slow building, however, we really get to uncovcer these characters on a much deeper level as all the layers of their personalities are unravelled. If I had any grumbles with the story, it's just that there may have been a plot line too many and I personally would have taken out the stalker element of the story as I'm not sure what it brought to the story.
The characters are flawed and challenging but real and likeable and I was unwittingly routing for them. I have to say that I enjoyed this book and think this is a great debut novel. Fingers crossed that some of the sidfe characters get stories as I would love to read them.
I was provided with a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley; there was no inducment or obligation.
This is a tough one for me to review. To be honest it left me wanting in many ways.
Let me hit the high notes before I hit the low ones. I thought the basic plot line was good, given that this is the authors first full length book. There were too many things going on within that that distracted from what could have been a good story. The story also stayed on point. It just took too long for this reader to get to where it was going and too convoluted.
JB and Evan. Two nights together 10 years ago. He disappears, without a single word during that time after "the best weekend of his life" which we see later turned into his worst nightmare. Her's wasn't much better, instead of going home to California she moves to NY and gets involved with someone who ends up being abusive to a point where she's physically endangered and leaves with the clothes on her back heading home. After 10 years they run into each other in a convenience store. He's the local kids baseball coach, giving up his dream of the major leagues.
I'm going to leave out the multiple siblings, her crazy mother and his dad, in all of this to say that the pseudo relationship or attempt at whatever the author was trying to express here gave me whiplash. Too much back and forth, the dialogue dragged and slowed down the story. A lot of it could have been cut down. It was unnecessary. There's also a bit of mystery in here which did add some spark to the story line. It was brought in rather late, but good nonetheless. I found myself skimming some of the dialogue because it was redundant.
JB couldn't let go of his brothers death and therefore used that to drink himself into where he wanted to be. Evan in her own way was more put together, but reacted to JB's constant hot and cold. She had her share of issues too. For me it didn't hold the label as a second chance romance, considering the first one didn't really happen.
I wish I could have given this more than 3 stars, it barely made that. I think a good editing would help, I honestly do. I think the bones of the story are good. The author just derailed along the line.
