Syd McCall is starting a new life in her hometown as a publicity aid to her sister Kat who runs an animal shelter. Kat becomes the prime suspect in the murder of an art gallery owner, so Syd decides to investigate the murder herself. She's also attracted to Will, one of the detectives and a childhood friend. And, she's just adopted a new kitty, Toby, who has purrsonality! This is the makings of a great cozy mystery. I enjoyed reading this book--it was fun and easy, with not too obvious a killer. I hope they turn it into a series. Characters could use a little more depth, and this could be done in future episodes. I can see Syd and her cat Toby (who helps solve the mystery) in many more adventures in the future.

Purr M for Murder is the first installment in the A Cat Rescue Mystery series featuring Sydney "Syd" McCall, Publicity Consultant for Friendly Paws, an animal shelter in Deer Park, North Carolina. Syd has left her Director of Marketing position in New York City after discovering her fiancée was cheating on her and has moved back to her hometown to work with her sister Katherine "Kat" at the shelter.

Excited for their first big event which will be a Cat Café, an opportunity for people to meet and hopefully adopt a few cats being held at their friend Dayna Haper's pastry and coffee shop. Unfortunately, Trowbridge Littleton, the towns most influential citizen, is voicing his displeasure about the event and would also like to see the shelter closed permanently. When the sisters make an early morning call to Littleton's office to try to reason with him, they discover him dead. Kat immediately becomes a prime suspect as she'd been heard arguing with him the night before. Determined to clear her sister's name and save the shelter, Kat sets out to find the real killer.

A fun, fast paced, quick read with a delightful cast of characters including Syd's best friend and room mate Leila Addams and Syd's high school sweetheart now Detective Will Worthington. Terrific animals especially the wandering "Toby", a large gold and white tabby cat with a penchant for adventure will have you running to the nearest animal shelter to adopt your own furry friend.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised that I could not put the book down! I love it when in a book the author lays out the tone and intrigue right at the beginning to keep me engaged and the author definitely did that in spades.
We meet Syd and her sister Kat whom are both working at the local animal shelter. Sad moved back home to escape her life in the big city and is attempting to assist her sister drum up support and donations for the animal shelter by signing on as a publicity consultant. Her first major fete is a cat cafe at the local coffee shop to hopefully give some of the cats a chance to be adopted, increase donations and awareness for the shelter, and help the coffee shop increase sales. Of course, there has to be someone to attempt to thwart them, and he comes in the shape of one Trowbridge Littleton.
When trying early one morning to get him to see reason, Syd and Kat come across Trowbridge murdered and they are thrust right into the investigation as the main people of interest.
This book definitely kept you guessing on who the murderer really was. It seemed the author tied everyone up with a perfect bow so you had no one to suspect but the sisters. All in all this book was definitely a good time, hard to put down, and leaves you waiting in anticipation for the next installment.
