Very funny. I liked the storyline and the characters were well written and relatable.
I love when an author keeps the book moving and flowing like river without any ripples. Ricki is a strong female protagonist that had me cheering her on through this entire book
Erica "Ricki" Fontaine left New York City after divorcing her husband. It was an amicable divorce which is why she's shocked that she's considered a suspect in her husband's death. Granted, he was found in her bar stabbed with one of her knives, but still. Even his new husband doesn't suspect her. At the same time, she's finally finding the hot men in this small Ohioan town. Too bad they're a detective and a reporter.
Her ex-husband's new husband flies into town to stay with Ricki and the mysterious happenings start amping up.
I generally liked this book and am glad that the possible love triangle seems to have been resolved by the end of the book. The ending was a bit rough but I'm liking the world building and am excited to see the next book.
Three and a half stars
This book came out November 2016
Lolli Powell's characters are such fun to get to know, and you can totally feel your feet sticking to the floor in her bar, despite the hours she spends scrubbing them. This mystery keeps you turning the page, and rooting for the heroine even when her foot is in her mouth. The ending is so exciting, unexpected and rewarding! I miss Ricky and her weirdo mates.
What a great new start for a new series. Erica, aka Ricki, inherits a dive bar from her uncle . In need of a change she leaves New York City and moves into the small apartment above the Top Shelf. She is beginning to change the image of the bar until she opens up one morning to find her ex-husband dead on a bar stool. Since the police are well acquainted with the bar and it's owner, she becomes the prime suspect. She and a few of her new friends, including her ex's boyfriend help solve the murder that is tied to a 1070's robbery. A good mystery that is told in a fun way with lots of great characters available for the next book. I've never read Lolli Powell before but I hope she continues with this series.
As a cozy mystery, this book is a great start to a potential series. The characters are engaging and the heroine narrates the story with sass and humor. As a first time bar owner, Ricki Fontaine learns to expect the usual shenanigans that happen when trying to run a business. Leaky roof, crazy clientele, these things she can handle. Finding a dead body on the barstool, with no idea how it got there, not so much. When the body is that of her ex-husband, well things are about to get complicated. This mystery will keep readers guessing until the end.
