Adena was born on Crucible and never been off the planet. Adena is a healer.living in a religious community on a different planet called Crucible that does not believe in the use of technology or space travel at least for themselves. Adena had a reputation that she will make sacrifices to help and heal her people. Adena is a different kind of healer as she uses psychokinetic energy along with herbs and tinctures to heal. . The colonists in Crucible have inhabited the planet for several generations. The colonies leaders have called for help from the alliance due to attacks from a rebellion. Nic and his brothers- in- arms are sent to investigate and help stop the attacks and the rebellion. They live in simple farming communities.The bandit attacks have been on the mountain communities. Adena is being given to Nic and his brothers as a gift from her uncle. Adena is a native guide and healer. Nic and Adena are are attracted to each other right away. Nic is drawn wo Adena and never been drawn to anyone before like he is to her. Adena helps Nic deal with a previous tough mission that had tragedy in it that was still troubling Nic. Adena has trama in her past and Nic helps her heal from that and help her to improve her sense of self. Adena’s Aunt Phyalle knows more about the attacks than she is saying. The Haleru are also attacking shepards along with the bandits.
I enjoyed this book. I didn’t want to put this down. I enjoyed the fast pace and plot. I loved that Nic and Adena helped each other with their pain and issues. This was well written. This was not my normal type of read. I believe I choose this book on accident but I was glad I did. I loved Nic and Adena together and how they interacted with each other. I feel in a way this ended in a cliffhanger as everything wasn’t solved and cleared up. I liked the characters a lot and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.
