All four of these titles are amazing. I have recommended them so many times to library patrons. Alice Hoffman never lets me down.
I’m a big Alice Hoffman fan, and it was a joy to read this collection of 4 of her novels. She’s a prolific writer, and I’m the first to admit that some of her books are better than others. The four included here
Property Of
The Drowning Season
Fortune’s Daughter
At Risk
are all enjoyable, but The Drowning Season is perhaps the weakest, whilst At Risk is the strongest, and had me in tears. I wouldn’t recommend coming to Hoffman for the first time with this collection – she’s written better novels – but nevertheless I found them all worth reading, and I was glad to discover this collection.
I totally did not know these books were already published Thanks so much for all three of them. I only read The drowning season and I loved it.
Thanks again to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy for a honest review!! I'' be reading the other 2 very soon.
This collection of four novels in one book is a very readable, enjoyable collection from a very talented author. I have enjoyed several of Hoffman's books in the past, and it was fun to read some of her earlier work in this collection.
Each book in this collection has different strengths and connects with the reader in different ways. My favorite of the books were 'Fortune's Daughter' and 'At Risk'. The story I least connected with was 'Property Of', though I think I might have enjoyed it more when I was younger. It just didn't click with me and I ended up skimming over parts of it.
I would recommend this collection for any fan of Hoffman who is interested in reading more of her earlier books. Well worth a read.
This book contains four of Alice Hoffman’s earlier works. If like me, you never read these, it’s a good opportunity to pick them up at a reasonable price.
Like most of Alice Hoffman’s books, I liked some more than others.
I'm sorry, but I really struggled with this anthology. The first two books I wasn't able to finish - I just didn't connect with the characters, and moved on after I realized I didn't care at all - and it's removed my motivation to continue. I hope to come back and try again later, but will not be leaving a review as three DNF reviews seem unfair.
I love Alice Hoffman. Her books frequently have just the perfect amount of magical realism: everyone seems real, and relatable, and inspires human emotion -- but then it's like a bit of fairy dust gets sprinkled over the very edges, and it's not clear that everything can be totally rationally explained. She's masterful. And prolific! I couldn't believe there was a collection of 3 books, none of which I had read before, available. I do recommend this to those new to AH, but in all honesty I have to recommend starting with Practical Magic, which is still my favorite.
I read my first Alice Hoffman book earlier this year and knew that it wouldn't be the last. This collection of some of her early work was a wonderful way to live in her worlds a little bit.
"Property Of" was my favorite of the four. Bad teenage girls, the kind I never was, was a look into a life I never led.
"The Drowning Season" is a story of family. Simple as that. Every family has it's problems and this is no different.
Both "Fortune’s Daughter" and "At Risk" are stories that pull on heart strings, but in a less cheesy way than that phrase would seem.
All in all, great stories and a great look into the wonderful world of Alice Hoffman.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!
A wonderful group of four of the authors most beloved novels. Sure to please every Alice Hoffman fan, get ready to laugh, cry and enjoy all of the magic of her outstanding fiction . Well Done. A nice collection for any Hoffman fan.
Great collection of some favorites by Hoffman. A definite recommend for fans and newcomers alike!
A special thank you to NetGalley and Open Road Integrated Media for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Those of you that actually read this blog, my online reviews, or follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Pintrest would know that Alice Hoffman is my favourite author, so to be asked to review this collection was an absolute pleasure.
This eBook features four of Hoffman's early works: her first two novels (Property Of and The Drowning Season) as well as two from almost a decade later (Fortune's Daughter, and At Risk). It is a wonderful compilation of her stunning writing.
I would give this collection a 5/5. It is a must-read for any fan, and would be a brilliant introduction to Alice Hoffman for those who haven't yet lost themselves in the pages of one of her literary masterpieces.
Review of each book is on the blog. www.girlwellread.blogspot.com.
