This is one of those tough books to review. Books that I loved? Easy to rate and review. Books that I hated? Oddly enough, those are even easier to rate and review. But books that were just OK? Those are tough to talk about because they didn’t leave a strong impression on me one way or the other. This was one of those “meh” reads that I could’ve gone on living happily without. It wasn’t the worst I’ve ever read, but it was also far, far from the best.

With that in mind, I guess I’ll start with the positives:

1. There’s an interesting premise here. A vampire dating site for fang-followers to hook up with the undead hottie of their choosing? Lots of potential there.

2. Logan is a great character. He’s Irish, funny, sexy, snarky, and ready to do whatever it takes to be with the woman he loves. In my head, he was Captain Hook (aka Killian Jones) from Once Upon a Time, which totally works for me. (I do love me some Killian Jones)

3. Pacing is smooth and there’s a great mix of emotional and action-y scenes to keep things moving along nicely.

But there were plenty of negatives that irked the bejesus out of me, too:

1. Silver, the heroine, is—I think—intended to be “spunky”. If she was in a Western romance, we’d say she was a “spitfire”. But many authors seem to mistake “spunky” for bitchy. If I had to label Silver, I’d definitely say she was a bitch. Case in point: after Logan has done nothing but help her (when he clearly could’ve killed her a hundred times over at this point), they have this little exchange:

“So, what do you want?” I ask, tucking my bag under my arm and gazing at him with narrowed eyes.
“Just to see you home safely,” he says. “It’s dangerous to walk around London on your own at night.”
I give off a little snort of derision and purse my lips, glancing up and down the quiet street. “Fine,” I say.
“Walk me home.” I lean forward in what I hope is a menacing way. “But you should know, I have pepper spray
in my purse and I’ve attended the finest self-defense classes in the greater London area.”

I think a simple “thank you” or a “no, I prefer to walk home alone” would’ve sufficed. Oh, and three or four pages after this exchange? The bitchy/”spunky” heroine is making out with Logan and encouraging him to bite her. So, I guess I’d have to add “flighty” and possible “self-destructive” to Silver’s list of attributes.

2. There’s a little subplot about the police asking Silver to spy on vampires through the dating site that is completely unnecessary. The entire thing could’ve been left out of the story.
Silver’s not even interested in the first vampire she dates through the website. She thinks he’s boring. Does that stop her from asking him to bite her? Nope. That’s about what I’d expect from a bitchy, flighty, self-destructive heroine like Silver. Just for fun, here’s another example of our heroine’s unique, um, charm:

"Get back here, vampire. I felt you up; now you feel me up. That's how it works in the twenty-first century. This isn't Jane Austen. I'm not bloody Elizabeth Bennet."

3. I’m soooooo over the “evil woman who made me a vampire is out to kill my new lady love” trope in paranormal romance. Only Teresa Medeiros has done this one right, in my opinion.

So, for me, this one was “meh” with a side of “blah”. But if you’re a big fan of the genre, it’s not the worst thing you’ll ever read. (How’s that for a glowing recommendation?)

This was a really fun read! I love vampires and the goofy ones I especially get a kick out of. This was funny and sweet and sexy. I love the hero and would love to read more like him! This is a new author for me but I hope to read more of her books!

3.5 Hearts I read the synopsis of this book and was really excited about all the differences this book would have from other vampire stories but I have to say I was wrong. Not that this book is bad. It isn’t. It’s actually good but the parts I thought I would enjoy like people knowing vampires exist, vampires needing a dating site, etc just seemed to take away from the enthralling vampires I am used to.

The characters are well written and I enjoyed them I am just not sure that I thought the story flowed. And maybe I missed it but I am not sure why all of a sudden they are in a world where vampires are known about and the world doesn’t care. Well they care and want more information but it just doesn’t seem to be a big deal.

Maybe the others in the series will address this but I am not sure if I will be picking them up.

DATING THE UNDEAD was a different kind of vampire read than I'm normally used to. It had a real undertone of fun and snark in which I found engaging. I would have liked a little more building of this particular vampire world to really understand the context as the reality of vampires in the human world was a new concept for society.

Silver was the kind of heroine that needs to grow on you. Her character wasn't instantaneously likeable but she did have depth to her character and was multi - dimensional. Logan intrigued me and I loved getting under his skin step - by - step. For me, Logan was the glue in this story. The underworld of vampire - human relations was interesting.

The connection between Logan and Silver just lacked something and I can't quite put my finger on it but I held back from fully investing in these two.

I did enjoy this book, I just wanted a little more in a few ways.

Silver is the ‘it girl”, clever, pretty, mouthy and independent, an independence learned with the disappearance of her mother several years ago. When her New Year’s Eve party from hell ends with a thrown drink, a well-placed knee and a stolen Chanel jacket, she’s heading home to lick her wounds and move on when she’s suddenly face to face with a green-eyed, gorgeous Irishman. With a Twist. He’s a vampire, as instantly attracted to her fear nothing attitude as her looks and humor, as she is to the gorgeous specimen in front of her. Offering to escort her home, she’s smart enough to lead him to a false address, slinking to her own apartment later.

Patrick was a gypsy in life, a young man with healing skills, when he emigrated to London he ended up accused of murder. Imprisoned on a prison ship, he was close to death when an ancient turned him, with plans to create a gang of evil-minded, conscienceless vampires to do her bidding. Years of servitude and self-hatred, Patrick left his sire and was functioning in London, serving another ancient at his nightclub that caters to human / vampire interactions.

Many things are different in this story: the skills, talents and lore of the vampires is different, and there are few who know the secrets: something that Scotland Yard is desperate to discover. Because of Silver’s history, she has been recruited to the cause, set up with an identity and account on the newly popularized V-Date, and asked to share any information she learns. On the other hand, Patrick has been tasked by his new Ancient, Ronin, to find and glamor this new human on the V-Date site, with the intentions of her avoiding all vampires and the site itself. Of course, Silver’s is the first name Patrick is given - and he just can’t bring himself to do it.

For a debut offering, the story is clever, moves along reasonably consistently, although the inset from Scotland Yard played more of a part closer to the end, and served to wrap up some questions in Silver’s past neatly, while challenging her own conscience in her dealings with Patrick. And their connection is electric, with an easy humor that adds to the steam. Patrick is, at heart, a good man – desperate to be worthy of Silver’s love, now that he has finally found the one. With plenty of secondary characters that add to the mix in varying ways, a tension-filled climax and a wonderful epilogue, this is a fun start to a new series, making London a clear author to watch.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Unfortunately Dating the Undead and I just did not click and I found myself with wandering thoughts as I read. I may try to pick up the book at a later date to see if it was just my mood. Thank you for the opportunity to read Dating the Undead.

What a hawt and naughty good time!

Silver Harris is snarky and sassy. The girl likes having the last word--even if that final statement is a slammed door. She doesn’t put up with kisses on the side. She doesn’t care for superior tones. That Chanel coat she is wearing is compensation for a ruined New Year’s celebration; not saying she is a klepto but Silver believes in reparations. The true rewards of the last night of the year is the satisfactory knee to the jewels to her cheating date and a surprise walk home with a very sexy vampire.

And vampires are as seductive as all the tabloids report.

Logan Byrne has surely rescued Silver from a shamefaced return to lame festivities after an Academy winning exit. The chit has moxie; truly charmed, Logan is delighted with her antics. The unexpectedly sweet offer of her neck in thanks for his assistance is something he can’t pass up. And the minx tastes intoxicating.

Just his luck. Logan’s employer sends him back her way days later--not to reunite them though. Logan is to glamour Silver from any interest in bloodsuckers. In following out instructions Logan’s task will turn her against the likes of him. This vampire can’t give up the woman who makes his still heart pitter-patter even if it means losing his afterlife.

It took a few pages for me to get into this book because at first it was a touch goofy. Fortunately the characters pulled me through that sketchy start; this book is fantastic!

Imagine Buffy The Vampire Slayer, mix it with the TV show Lucifer then dust it liberally with the saltiness of True Blood. Dating the Undead is the oishi taste of that dish!

This vampy ride travels a rogue path. Forget your garlic, crucifixes, wooden stakes, and silver nitrate. These aren’t your grandma’s vampires, and they don’t hide in coffins. Out of the closet blood drinkers are socialite celebrities seducing willing wantons. When a V-Dating website facilitates hook-up services for gullible humans with perfect predators Scotland Yard sees the perfect opportunity to infiltrate the vampire community in search of the evil that dead men do. It’s a chance to deconstruct immortal psychology and solve murders committed through the centuries.

And if you still need a reason to pick up Dating The Undead I assure you that Vera--formerly known by the stage name Etta Marlow who played Susie De Sousa in Girl Uptown with Gregor Lane; Vera, who won an Oscar for Days Like These with Vic Stevens back in the day; Vera who reduces suave, sexy, worldly Logan Byrne to a fluttering-lashes fanboy--will have you laughing aloud. With nothing new under the sun for the jaded nonagenarian her wicked insights are hysterical. Silver and Vera will steal your heart if you give them a moment’s blind eye.

Pick up Dating the Undead!
I can’t wait for Inspector Vincent Ferrer’s love story Romancing the Undead, I await it with bated breath. Or if I am honest, I’m panting for it. Thank you Ms. Juliet Lyons for this sweet and spicy pairing.

Dating The Undead is a quirky British paranormal rom-com. Silver Harris is young, funky and fun. Logan Byrne is an old hunky and sexy as hell vampire with a delicious Irish accent. The book starts with a meet cute and then the pacing gets a bit wobbly. I loved the twist at the end. If you grunt it through the slow bits this is a fun read.

I had not read a book like this for a long time. Vampires aren’t the creatures we see the most in literature these days and I have not read any books with them for a long time. Yet, as soon as this series was announced, I was curious to discover the story, a light novel and vampires? I say yes! Then I have to say that the cover was really appealing as well.

We discover Silver a young woman who crosses the road of Logan a vampire. But something happens without them having the chance to meet again even if they think constantly of the other. Yet fate will bring them together when Silver decides to participate in the new dating website with vampires. And yet it is also what will change her life, between her reunion with Logan or the government who is interested in the information that she could uncover, Silver will have enough to do! But Logan also has a few problems and will have to face them very quickly.

It was nice to discover these two characters and to witness the beginning of their romance. We also learn a little more about the author’s ideas about vampires and I admit that it’s always something interesting. I spent a good time with the story, it’s light as I said and although it does not revolutionize the genre, it’s nice. I will read the sequel with pleasure.

The idea that there is a dating site where vampires are the clients is what made me want to check this book out. I found this book to be a fun read. Although, I was hoping for more of a comedy. Yet, despite not getting that result, I did find this book to be an easy and fast read. Silver and Logan do share chemistry. However, I would not call it sizzling but more like hot. Luckily, the two of them were fun to be around as there was not much happening in the story. Like really no action other than Logan and Silver together. There was potential in what I read but not enough to make me jump for joy and rush to read the next book in this series.

Dating the Undead by Juliet Lyons is the 1st book in her V-Date.com series. This was a different type of paranormal story line revolving around vampires and humans. Silver Harris, our heroine, is a beautiful feisty sexy young girl, who secretly is trying to find the person responsible for killing her mother. Silver starts dating vampires, which in this book, seems the norm for human girls who find them sexy and attractive. Silver has agreed to go undercover using the V-Date.com site to help the police learn more information about how vampires live and how to stop them.

Logan Byrne is close to 200 years old, and is a gorgeous vampire with sexy green eyes. He saves Silver from a bad vampire, and in no time their attraction for each other is hotter than hell. Logan works for Ronin, the ancient vampire who he is blood bound to; Little does Logan know that the assignment he is given, will bring him to Silver. Their relationship was great, as Silver was a piece of work, with her off the cuff sassy comments, and I loved them together. They were so much fun, not to mention totally steamy.

Logan realizes he is falling in love with Silver, having feelings he has not had for so long. Because he knows his boss will not approve, and his fear of his old dangerous sire coming back to haunt him, Logan will decide to break up with Silver to keep her safe. Once he finds out that Silver is working for the police, Logan knows he has to protect her, and also knows he can’t live without her. At this point, all hell is about to break loose, with Logan’s sire returning putting both of their lives together. During this time, Silver will also find out who was responsible for her mother’s murder.

I enjoyed Dating the Undead, mainly because the main characters were lots of fun, likeable and their chemistry was off the wall. After the exciting & surprise climax twist, there was an epilogue that moved forward three years in time, which was a nice touch. I do recommend Dating the Undead to read if you enjoy paranormal romances with vampires

Silver Harris is a shopgirl with a yen for a vampire that gave her a New Year’s Eve kiss. She goes on the dating site for vampire-human dating hoping she can get the same tingles or even find that hot vampire. The police find her, enlist her to spy on the vampires on the site, and make her an offer she can’t refuse. Meanwhile Logan Byrne is sent to glamour her so she doesn’t remember anything about vampires. But he can’t bring himself to glamour the woman he is falling for. Silver and Logan have combustible chemistry together and embark on a torrid love affair that could mean the end of both of them.
Oh Goody! Here we have a Paranormal Romance chock full of steamy sex and torrid action all wrapped up in a terrific story line, relatable characters, evil villainous vampires and a few loveable ones (but don’t tell them that, they get miffed). These vampires don’t need blood to survive but like a bite, they can’t fly but can do giant leaps, and they are all gorgeous. I thoroughly enjoyed this well written introduction to a new series. I look forward to the next, Romancing The Undead, book #2, about Vincent a vampire we met in this book.

Three and a half stars.
I really liked the characters of Silver and Logan, and I thought their chemistry and banter was great. I also liked the whole world-building surrounding the vampires and their history, including how the could-be-problematic-but-wasn't vengeful sire was handled.
There is a lot of setting up for future stories in this book (first in a series), and between that and the police angle I did feel that it pulled away from the main storyline. I don't know if this is partly because of the meandering aspect of the original Wattpad story, or if the author was asked to pull back from the main characters in order to broaden the scope of the world. Still, I'm intrigued and will want to check out book 2.

A quirky and steamy debut series of paranormal romantic comedy by Juliet Lyons. The story was set in AU London where humans got familiar with vampires, though the later still kept their own set of rules ...and secrets. It's a fast-paced tale with repertoire of wit and steamy encounter that brought together Silver Harris and two hundred year old vampire Logan Byrne.

As first entry to V-Date.com series, this story barely delved on it, more serve as introduction to the matter. The underlying issue of Logan's debt to the ancient (vampire) and his old blood bound were more prominent here.

Although the protagonists were both likeable here (some of their past stories were heartbreaking), somehow I felt they were also a helpless pair (despite Logan's healing ability). This rather diminished my fondness for them; as in - knowing the danger if the ancient found out what he did (or didn't do) - why not taking any precautions to lessen the impact OR acted more quickly. On this front - though I pegged them both as careless - at least Silver showed more gut and wit than Logan, given she was basically clueless of the vampire way.

The conclusion to the book was both exasperating and interesting. [On one side, the way an ancient be vanquished so easily - literary - by incident was just eye-rolling; on the other hand this is the first time I read book where the vampiric aspect could be reversed! Like being cured from a disease! (hide spoiler)] We shall see if the same could be put to use in this series universe in the future. :)

I tried to read this book about half a dozen times. It started out great but then it kept hitting bumps along the way. The first was how supposedly enamored the male lead was with the female lead, yet, he made no attempt to look for her. Then there was the whole online dating plot point that was just pushed to the side for a bit. I never got a sense of anyone’s motivations and I definitely never understood why the two characters were drawn to one another. Also, the female lead seemed like an unstable person so it was hard to cheer for her.

After catching her boyfriend with another girl, Silver has had it with men. Then she meets sexy vampire Logan who sweeps her off her feet literally. Logan's Irish brogue and sparkling green eyes are mesmerizing and the chemistry between them is combustible. But danger from Logan's past catches up with them and changes everything. Great romance!

Ok I spotted this and had all manner of expectations. Some were fulfilled and others not. I really liked the idea of a modern , independent woman living in London and certainly Silver is an intersting up for anything character. The idea of a dating site introducing vampires to humans in this post revelation era also ticked my boxes as I loved the idea that someone normally considered irresistible would need help looking for partners. Yes the author certainly knows how to engage her readers interest. Now add in green eyed Irish vampire Logan, with a murky history and the stage is set for a romance that's steamy, funny and unfortunately about to get very tangled up indeed !
Without giving too much away Silver is helping the authorities discover as much as they can about the now out of their closet vampires and this really didn't work for me . Unfortunately I couldn't quite understand why Silver got the gig as I would normally expect the police to use their own undercover operatives. That oddity aside it was fun seeing Silver and Logan tangle with each other and I have to admit their romance was written in a refreshing and contemporary manner which really suited the two characters. Silver isn't someone who is backwards in coming forwards and pairing her with dirty minded Logan worked . Less you think it's just sexy shenanigans I have to point out that the author found a way to show that Logan came from a different era and his idea to woo Silver was very sweet.
So I've covered the basic romance but it's more than that as we are given a whole new idea about vampires and their society. Unfortunately this didn't feel as realistic as I wanted and I really felt the plot should have matched the time this couple spent exploring each other. We do meet characters who I'm sure the author will revisit but I just wanted more action . That being said it's the first book in the series so it's hard to fully flesh out a different way for vampires to exist without giving a long history so I hope the next book will add to the world building and hopeful have a really engaging story.
This voluntary review is of a copy I sought from Netgalley and is my honest opinion
