I enjoyed this book more than I expected to because I'm not usually into sci-fi and aliens but I do like Lesley Davis's writing. The best parts of the story were the sceptic becoming the believer (no spoilers here) and the relationship between Emory (the main character) and Dink. Emory is credible and her reactions feel "real" even though the things happening around her are out of this world. Sofia as the love interest is also well developed as a character and there are a few stutters where you think she's the bad guy but then you're not sure and that kept the interest in the story for me. Overall, it wasn't too predictable. An entertaining and at times amusing book which has a lot to say about conspiracy theories and yet can also make you think a bit about politics and why people in power make decisions the way they do. Seems quite pertinent at the minute...

Raging At The Stars is a very entertaining and engaging read. The alien invasion storyline - with a twist - is very original and the plot is very well developed. The two leads are very likeable and the supporting characters are equally interesting. The author's style of writing is very engaging, especially the witty dialogue. The story does get a little too far-fetched at times but I very much enjoyed this book.

Emory Hawkes is a professional conspiracy theorist. She’s been chasing little, gray men for years, even though she doesn’t believe in them. What she does believe in is a massive government cover up about whatever is really going on at Area 51. It started out as just another stakeout. Until the sky went black and flying saucers showed up. Now, everything Emory must face that she may have been wrong all along, that aliens may be among us, and they’re ready to fight. After saving Captain Sofia Martinez from the rubble of Area 51, the two will have to work together to piece together truths and save the world.

I am 800% here for this book. It reminded me of a fun mashup of X-Files and Independence Day, with lesbians, and honestly, I can’t think of anything cooler at this moment. Though it did take longer for me to get into it than I’d hope, once it got going, I was hooked. The tension between Emory and Sofia is amazing, and their tentative connection is tested plenty by aliens. Emory’s best friend, Dink, was wonderful and reminded me of a mashup of all The Lone Gunmen. I want to be his friend. This is everything I have been missing in my favorite Sci-Fi shows.

Most of the dialogue is good, and the exposition is solid. I was getting worried toward the end that I wouldn’t get a resolution I desperately needed, but Davis wrapped everything up in a neat, little package, but still leaves a tiny bit for the reader’s imagination about what happens next, and I think it worked very well. This was a great break from the string of regular, drama titles I’ve comfortably settled into lately. It’s nice to shake things up, sometimes, and I’ll definitely track down more of Davis’ titles. Definitely recommend.

What a great science fiction story! From the first chapter, I was hooked. I was drawn to this book because it was written by Lesley Davis. I have read most of her books and have never been disappointed.

UFO’s, flying saucers, and aliens are everywhere. The three main characters in this book are Emory Hawkes, Captain Sofia Martinez, and Dink. Emory is an investigative journalist and Sofia is an engineer in the military working on flying saucers. Dink is a computer/technology whiz and is a friend of Emory’s. The two of them are conspiracy buffs and soon find themselves in the middle of an invasion. The characters are so well developed that after the first few chapters I felt like I really knew the characters.

The storyline was excellent. The fast, action-paced story seemed so real that the reader might start believing that aliens actually exist.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to experience an exciting book. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

A Sci Fi book with a side of romance and a hint of aliens (or is there really a hint? What else could be going on?). Anyway, it's basically my perfect book, and I thought it was totally awesome.

Emory is a journalist who's staking out Area 51 when suddenly Black Triangle crafts appear out of nowhere and they as well as the saucers they release attack and try to obliterate Area 51. Luckily Emory 's there to save Sofia, a military Captain, who works at Area 51 from being killed or taken by the crafts.

That's how they start their twisting/turning journey to and fro to try and find not only Emory's family, but people (mostly Sofia's people) to help stop the invaders.

They also split up for a bit, Emory going it alone to try and save the world, and Sofia trying to come to terms with what she has actually been doing for the past few years versus what she thinks she had been doing.

It was mostly a slow burn sort of novel, but that was okay, because the mystery of what is happening in the Sci Fi part of the book was totally engrossing, and then adding in the romance too made it really pretty cool. An all around awesome novel!

An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This was so far out of what I am used to in books that I immediately fell in love. Unlike most books, lesbian-themed or not; it seems that the same plot and ideas are immediately reused. I have never read something like this before; the originality captured me as well as the plot as the story took place. There are surprises and action at every turn, and as we get to know Sophia and Emory, we start falling for them and hope that they end up acting on their feelings. I highly recommend this book, enjoy!

I enjoyed this funny and entertaining sci-fi tale with a bit of romance. Being a bit of a fan of the x-files, Star Trek and the like I found myself really getting into the story. Emory is an investigative journalist with a penchant for conspiracy theories. She ends up being connected to Sofia, a military captain with more than a bit of insight into what's being going on at Area 51. When flying saucers appear over the skies things change for everyone and the two are fleeing for their lives. A fun read.

Emery Hawkes is an investigative journalist dedicated to finding out the truth behind government cover-ups. This finds her sitting outside Area 51, watching for flying saucers when a large triangular flying ship hovers overhead and starts obliterating all the buildings on the secret base. Dink, her best friend, speaks via her earpiece, and is seeing everything she sees through her video recording glasses. It’s the secret seven, but adult, and potentially deadly.

Realising there is a gap in the security, Emery takes a chance and races into the site to investigate. Adopting her fake CIA Agent persona, Emery runs into Captain Sophia Martinez. Escaping together as the destruction of the base resumes from overhead, Emery and Sophia are thrown into a world of chaos. An air force engineer wouldn’t normally spend a second with a journalist known for investigating conspiracy theories, but while aliens are attacking Earth, the rules can be rewritten.

This is a fun romp through aliens and conspiracy theories, with a large dose of romance thrown in. What makes this so entertaining is how well it all fits together. Davis has created two distinct characters, and thrown them into a situation for which neither could prepare. Emery is the most developed and has the most action within the story. She’s a very entertaining creation, and is bold and funny, and definitely attracted to Sophia. Sophia is a little more buttoned-up, and harder to read early in the book. It’s appropriate for the story though, and it works the way it is.

I won’t tell you too much. It was a lot of fun to read and it drew me in enough to make it hard to put the book down. There was a lot of banter between the main characters, which was well delivered and very entertaining.

It is an episode of X-Files with a lesbian romance thrown in. What more could a geek ask?

A conspiracy theorist doubting the US government finds there are aliens either invading or already among us. Government complicity from Area 51 endangers us all. Action, attraction, alien destruction, but still brimming with hope and love.

I liked this book. I liked the characters and the story engaged me from the beginning.
I have found the two main protagonists very appealing. I'm not sure which one I like the most, if the intrepid journalist or the soldier dedicated to serve and protect. I thought that both have a good chemistry, within the hectic pace of the story their relationship has been well developed, based on the difficult situations  they go through and the fact that they are forced to have to trust one another.
This is a book you will enjoy, if you want to have an entertaining time.

Enjoyed the novel quite a bit from a science fiction perspective, however, the romantic subplot was far less engaging. Found the protagonists to have limited chemistry, while the broader plot lines were more absorbing.
