SIN FOR ME - Lisa Marie Perry
#1 (and only one available) in The Devil's Music romance series
ANGRY LOVE - 2.5 stars
Plot - 3 stars - There are a lot of machinations regarding a hip-hop music label called The Devil's Music. The original owner committed suicide, his daughter took over and made it a success, but then the other 3 members of the board completed a coup and got her out. Now that it's on the skids, the original owner's son is called back to write an album of hit songs to bring them back to success. But what's his real motivation?
Writing - 2.5 stars - The writing is fine, easy to read, but it's definitely got a very dark edge to it. And a huge point off for leaving this book with a cliff-hanger about Jude's suicide and the recent shooting.
Characters - 2 stars - This is where there's a problem for me because the characters--all of them, even the secondary ones--are all so angry. They all have a bitter tone to them, and not one of them is happy. It definitely makes it difficult to read about them since they are all self-destructive in one way or another.
Title - 2 stars - Not sure what the title even means. Sure, there's a lot of sinning going on (if you say that sin = sex), but other than that...
Cover - 3 stars - Nice cover, attractive, but no color or excitement to draw the eye.
Overall - 2.5 stars - Not horrible, but certainly not an easy read and not one I'd care to repeat. The characters are all struggling with personal baggage, which is not necessarily a problem, but I just couldn't understand the reasoning behind their actions. There was so much self-created controversy and unhappiness that I just wanted to shake them to get them to pay attention to what they were doing. They were all totally passionate, although they thought they were reasonable and thinking adults. But it was clear that they were acting on emotions, not reason. I understand that we're exploring the hip-hop world which, I suppose, is rough and tough, but even the sex between the main characters is angry and impatient. I didn't feel much satisfaction with this book and had to wipe my hands after reading it since it left me feeling dirty. If that was the author's goal, then she succeeded. But even if I could find a copy of the next book (that was apparently published in 2017, although I couldn't find a copy anywhere), I don't think I'd continue with this series.
I wouldn't rate this a one star but I did DNF the story. The writing is good but the story line didn't hold my attention. I will check out her other work when the time is right.
I have not had a chance to read this book, Once I have gotten a chance to read it I will edit this review to reflect my thoughts and feeling on the book.
Sorry I was not able to read you book but it went to archive before I could get to it. Sorry once again.
This book was okay. At the beginning, it was very slow and kind of boring, then it gradually picked up and then went back down and died. I did not enjoy how the book started off, even though it needed to to fill readers in, but I felt it was missing something. The beginning set the mood for the rest of the book which was... boring.
Delilah's grandfather had bought the old Greek revival plantation manor - The Hearst Plantation and converted it into the home of Devil’s Music record label. He founded the company in an age when rock-n-roll was seen as wicked and black artists feared as dangerous in these parts. For every racist friend he lost Granddaddy seemed to sign a surefire hit singer. His clients were on the country’s most elite DJ’s lists and their music blared from jukeboxes and radios across America. He died rich. Delilah's father became even richer and found more singers. Delilah reinvented Devil’s Music as a chart dominating hip-hop label worth billions. Delilah called out and Emma heard- old money, old tradition, old treachery.Delilah remembered when Emma and Delilah played with their barbies ,sharing homework and looking in the swamp for frogs. Emma was Delilah best friend for a long time. Delilah had three identical knife wounds carved in her - one from Emma, one from Joshua, one from Chelsea who Delilah had befriended when her brother dumped Chelsea. Delilah had considered Chelsea a friend but she had also screwed Delilah over. Delilah had traded her soul for a company, bartered her body for corporate favors and industry alliances. And in the end they had voted her out. They had claimed her legacy . But now the company had been hit with an intellectual property lawsuit. Soon it will lose its clients and sponsors and die a slow embarrassing death. Delilah could save the entity but she couldn’t do it from the outside As a little girl Delilah thought her father was rich and famous because of magic but as she grew up she learned it was from force, coercion, threats, and violence. Her father had taught Delilah a valuable lessons on the necessary means of survival. Good and bad walk together. You can’t be good if you don’t deal with the bad. You can’t beat the devil if you don’t play his game.In this world the deals that matter are made with hard substances are coursing through your blood.
I couldn’t get into this book. There was just too much drama in this book. I didn’t connect with the characters of this story. Last but not least I hate cliffhangers. This book just wasn’t for me. I am sure others will love it
This was the 4th rocker romance I've read in a short time period and it just didn't stack up to Kylie Scott's.
What a great book!! Looking forward to book#2.
Dante and Delilah Bishop were born and raised in the music industry only Dante's love for it died when his father overdosed on drugs. He up and left Atlanta and left his share of the business to his sister and never looked back. Delilah hired her 3 best friends to run the company, she was the heart of Devil's Music, until said friends turned on her and had her voted out of it. Dante's ex, Chelsea was one of those people in one Delilah's demise. Dante has never forgave her.
Chelsea Coin is the COO of the company and a control freak, but carries guilt and success equally on a daily basis. She's a very wealthy woman, yet has many regrets about the past. She double crossed the love of her life and close friend to get where she is.
When Devil's Music starts going on a downward spiral, the owners need help, fast. Delilah has rebuilt another music company and they have to choice but to run to her; but she has demands to be made. She wants ownership, and her brother to be brought back to write an album, non-negotiable.
Dante isn't happy to come back to Atlanta, his life in Washington is peaceful. But he won't let down Delilah like he did years ago when he threw the business at her and took off, or when her friends betrayed her. So he goes back and helps her. But he has demands of his own too. They involve Chelsea.
Payback is not pleasant.
Idle hands make the devil’s music. But it’s the drama between high-powered hip-hop hotties that makes for the guiltiest pleasures of all.
Dante Bishop thought he was done with Atlanta. He’d jumped on his Harley and left his father’s family record label to his sister. She became the heart and soul of The Devil’s Music—until the board masterminded a takeover. Now Dante’s back, and he’s putting his songwriting skills to good use. Reuniting with his ex only sweetens the deal.
Chelsea Coin doesn’t dwell on the past. If she did, she’d never forgive herself. As the COO of The Devil’s Music, she needs help saving the company, and Dante is part of a package deal. Still brooding and hot as hell, Dante wastes no time stirring up unfinished business. But Chelsea’s come too far to risk everything on a man. Even one who knows her body like he owns it.
Everybody’s fighting to be number one. But with both of their hearts on the line, Dante and Chelsea might make the sexiest mistake of their lives.
PARENTAL ADVISORY | EXPLICIT CONTENT: This novel contains adult themes, explicit sex, and scandalous subjects such as infidelity.
This was a weird book for me because EVERYONE was doing everyone else!!! That is no joke....LIKE SERIOUSLY?! I read the advisory and I'm 40....I think I needed it. OMG, y'all the drama in this book was like - off the charts. So short synopsis - I won't tell you who though, read it and figure it out: Some "certain people" steal the company from a "certain" person and she gets butthurt and gets back at them by sleeping with everyone....before and after and during! In the process, everyone is out for themselves and then the two people that shouldn't fall in love and I wouldn't fall in love with him...in fact, I'd throw him a condom and tell him to take an STD test...does! So that's my short synopsis which I know is all kinds of warped lol. Anyhow, if you like DRAMA, as in dramallama - this is your book!!!!
I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on NetGalley for an honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.
I voluntarily read an advanced reviewers copy of this book
This is the first book that I have read from Lisa Marie Perry and I liked it. I loved all of the intricate parts of this book as well as the main characters.
The only reason this book lost a star is because while we got all of Chelsea and Dante's story I really wanted to know what the answers were to some of the unanswered questions. I get that we were getting small sneak peaks into some of the other characters but there was just so many peaks that I was like "WHAT?" and I got sucked into their crazy lives and somehow lost focus on Dante and Chelsea.
Overall this was a good book, I really want to know what the series holds. Very good job Lisa Marie Perry.
Did not finish (25%in) , too much drama, not enough plot. I can't stand the unfaithfulness and a backstabbing.
For Dante Bishop, music died the night he found his father’s body next to a syringe of lithium. Ditching Atlanta, Dante jumped on his Harley and left the family business to his sister. She became the heart and soul of Devil’s Music—until the board, including Dante’s ex, masterminded a takeover. Years later, Dante’s doing something he never thought he’d do: returning to Georgia to put his songwriting skills to good use. Reuniting with Chelsea Coin only sweetens the deal.
As the perfectionist COO of Devil’s Music, Chelsea doesn’t dwell on the past. If she did, she’d never forgive herself for betraying the Bishops in a corporate power grab. Now Chelsea needs help to save the company, and Dante’s a nonnegotiable part of the arrangement. Still brooding and hot as hell, Dante wastes no time stirring up unfinished business—and carnal memories Chelsea would rather keep buried. She’s come too far to risk everything on a man. But for desire this intense, she might just enjoy the sexiest mistake of her life.

SIN FOR ME is well written with some seriously hot sex scenes. However it wasn't a book that I enjoyed. There wasn't a single character that I liked and I kept thinking that if there was a huge fire and they all died, it wouldn't be a loss. With the exception of Dante's love for his sister, there wasn't a redeeming quality in the lot of them.
I do think that people that enjoy the hip hop or rap scene would enjoy this book. It just wasn't for me. But your mileage may vary.
*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.
There are very few books that I just get the point I say "Just No" but this unfortunately was one of them for me. DNF @ 14% I just couldn't go any further, the author lost me with this one. I am declining to review it as I wasn't the proper audience for this one I'm afraid.
A sizzling book that has relatable characters that makes you fall in love with them.
Not my favorite book. It had a little too much drama for me and the ending was too abrupt.
2.5stars
Sin for me was for me unlikable story. I must say that I was disappointed with the story because my moral standard are so different than from the ones in this book so no I didn’t like the story I didn’t like the characters. Their ways of acting and communicating thinking just a big not my cup of tea. A story was also for my taste little bit too vulgar with lot really a lot to much of adult material. Sorry but just big no from my side.
What do you get when you combine one legendary record label, 2 siblings, 1 ex, and 1 married couple? You get Sin for Me. Sin for Me is a giant soap opera set in the music industry. Delilah Bishop, Dante Bishop, Chelsea Coin, Josh and Emma Drake: what an insanely devilish, sexy, cutthroat, DRAMATIC combination of people we've got here. There is backstabbing, betrayal, love, hate and revenge within the hearts of each person, and it's only a matter of time before one or more of them gets what's coming to them. I honestly got a little lost trying to figure everything out, but that's ok, because I was really entertained while doing so.
"You can't beat the devil unless you play his game." And that, folks, is the heart of Sin for Me. Marriage, sibling relationships, love, nothing is sacred and nothing will stand in their way. They play the game the way they see fit and in the end, the chips will fall where they may. Who knows if anyone will be left standing when it's all over.
Now, I'm just awaiting impatiently Burn with Me so I can get some damn answers!
This book did not work for me. I didn't like one person in this book. It's supposed to be about Dante and Chelsea but there were so many other players that their story got lost. Or I just got bored with all of the disgusting, juvenile, over the top behavior by everyone that I didn't care about them.
Okay, so I read this book about a month a go and when I finished it, the only thought I had was ... "wait, what? hold on a minute ...." and that is not necessarily a bad thing. For this book it is exactly what I was supposed to think/feel. So excellent job on that. However, it leaves me with little else to say because anything I say will take away from the experience/drama that makes this book so captivating.
You don't really realize how good the story really is until it is over. Because you're left wanting sooooooooooo much more. Fortunately, we're gonna get it :) And I cannot wait!
Copy provided by NetGalley for review
I hate giving bad reviews and if I hadn't gotten this book from NetGalley I wouldn't have finished and been reviewing this book. I have read a lot of books and very few of them have no characters with any redeeming qualities but this one falls into that category. There was not a single character that was worthy of being written about. This had to be the biggest collection of lying, cheating, self-absorbed and destructive characters that I can remember coming across in one book. Every time I thought we were going to see any quality in a character that hope was dashed and we were left feeling disgusted. I was shocked by the end, shocked at the horrible, hateful things these characters did to each other and to themselves. I was so relieved when I finished the book just knowing that I could wash these characters out of my head and never look back.
