I read 'Six Sacred Rules for Families' while on retreat at a Benedictine Abbey last year, and pledged take on board many of its ideas when I returned home (although I must say I'm a much more reflective and patient mother when I'm 1000 kms away from my 4 sons!).. This book by the same authors demonstrates how to draw on the always relevant and effective practise of Ignatian discernment when parenting teens.
This approach to parenting has helped me regain the patient reflection that usually comes to me when I'm on a silent retreat far far away from my children; the calm and almost meditative ability to make decisions and parent in a God-centred way that draws on love, wisdom and also a practical understanding of how the teen brain operates. This prayerful discernment will resonate both within you and your child, which in turn will help the whole household operate in a calmer, more mindful manner.
