Grumpy Cat and Pokey!: Grumpus is a series of cute little comics featuring the beloved internet sensation Grumpy Cat and her cheerful little brother Pokey! There are nine standalone comics, covering everything from Grumpy deciding she wants to run away and join the circus to the cats discovering the internet to a rhyming Christmas tale. It features all manner of things grumpy, cat, and Grumpy Cat! It is great for children who are reluctant readers or for adult fans of Grumpy Cat.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
I had no idea Grumpy Cat had his own comics! My niece enjoyed this a lot.
Oh, too adorable! Grumpy Cat is such a big sensation! This is perfect for any GC fan, it a cat-like in general.
Loved the graphics and Grumpy cat. A fun way to spend the afternoon
This was another great Grumpy Cat read. Throw in Pokey an you have a duo that will keep you on your toes and reading til you get to the end. My daughter loved these short stories and said that they just kept getting better and better as she read. I am so thankful for something that gets her interest and makes her want to read. Thank you for writing great reads for the younger readers. I can't wait to see what is next for Grumpy Cat and Pokey!
Awww I do love Grumpy Cat and this was another really good and funny read, I love the cartoons and the trouble they get in too, looking forward to more of the same!
'Grumpy Cat: Grumpus' is another graphic novel collection of stories starring Grumpy and Pokey. Grumpy is surly, and Pokey is energetic and imaginative. Grumpy is not thrilled by this.
There are nine short stories in this volume with a variety of story-lines. Grumpy and Pokey play hide and seek and Grumpy finds a completely different annoying kitten. The circus comes to town and Grumpy is mistaken for one of the attractions in the sideshow. The title story is the story of how one of Santa's helpers became, well, Grumpus. There are encounters with witches and magic lamps. Humans disappear, and humans create killer robots.
The art styles vary by story, but they are all pretty good. The writing also varies, but it fits more seamlessly than the art. These are fun stories and young readers would probably get some decent laughs out of this collection. A bonus section at the end has a cover gallery. I like reading these Grumpy Cat stories and look forward to reading more.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Dynamite Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
I have heard so much about Grumpy Cat, but never really learned any intimate details about Grumpy until I read this comic book. I was surprised to find that Grumpy is a female (imagine that) and has a younger brother named Pokey.
Grumpy also hates climbing trees, but she will begrudgingly help another cat out of a tree. Grumpy prefers curling up in a comfy place for a nap and eating treats to any other activity.
The most notable stories in this edition of Grumpy Cat, is a cute Christmas story and a story about the internet. Grumpy learns that the internet is a “cat-a-rama” and that the internet can also be a scary place, so you have to be careful.
Many thanks to Net-Galley and Diamond Book Distributors for allowing me to read this early release in exchange for an honest review.
You may have seen Grumpy Cat memes on Facebook or elsewhere on the internet. You may not know (as I didn't) the back story. Introduced to the world by her owner in 2012, her uniquely grumpy face became an internet sensation. She has made media appearances and is featured on calendars, clothing, books, and the subject of this review, a comic book.
Grumpy Cat: Grumpus is a collection of seven comics featuring Grumpy Cat and her little brother Pokey. They live a typical cat's life, and have typical cat adventures. Of course, the atypical adventures are the more memorable ones. The flea circus manager recruits Grumpy Cat to join the circus as a sideshow attraction, the world's grumpiest cat. The humans all disappear and the cats decide in their post apocalyptic lifestyle that humans are pretty useful after all. (It was only a nightmare, though.) A grumpy cat is conned into being Santa's cat-elf and turns into the evil Grumpus. A magical lamp opens up all kinds of possibilities for the cats' imaginations.
The stories are somewhat clever. The art is somewhat attractive. But the whole project seems sort of unnecessary, like maybe the memes were the extent of the humor that one cat can produce. I can't blame the purveyors of all things Grumpy Cat for capitalizing on her sure-to-be-short-lived fame. Kids who like animal comics and Grumpy Cat's internet fandom will enjoy these comics.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!
Second collection of stories about the cat who’s “allergic to fun” that I’ve read.
Don’t take a Grumpy Cat to the circus. . . unless you want her to join it.
Best Christmas story ever!
You’ll find what happens when cats discover the internet.
“Actual magic lamp. Seriously.”
15 pages of bonus alternate covers, of which “My Little Grumpy” was the best.
I liked the previous one better, the stories were more entertaining.
Who doesn't love Grumpy Cat? Seriously. I have the Grumpy Cat picture books in my collection for my younger readers and this is a must-have for the older crowd! Hilarious! 5/5 stars.
When getting a review copy, you can never be sure what you are going to get. Since I enjoy seeing grumpy cat, I thought it would be a book with photos. Instead this is a book of comics - drawings- of grumpy cat doing a few silly things in a grumpy manner. This may be a good book for older elementary children obsessed with Grumpy Cat, but other than that... can't thing of an audience.
