The Soldier’s Woman was a cute historical romance with a twist of mysticism to add charm to the book. It takes place during the Napoleonic wars, a time period I haven’t read many books on. I really liked the flow of the book and the characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Colonel Maximillian Bladewood had been separated from his men – the French soldier who seemed determined to end his life was suddenly no longer a threat; the young woman in front of him had a shocked and slightly frightened look on her face. That was the day Maximillian met Miss Charlotte Everslea, the woman who was to completely change the life of this tough and resilient soldier.

1810 and the British and French were at war – mixed up in that war were members of an ancient Guild, along with devious and evil criminals, led by a Mr Black, determined to change the course of history. And standing in their way were the Everslea siblings. When it seemed things couldn’t get any worse – they did. As Maximillian did his best to keep Charlotte safe, he was also fighting an attraction to the fiery little redhead that shocked him. What would be the outcome of their association? And would Charlotte be able to complete the special and important journey she’d started?

I thoroughly enjoyed The Soldier’s Woman by Aussie author Kelly Lyonns (which is book 1 in The Bladewood Legacy) – it’s hard to believe it’s the author’s debut! I loved the two main characters; Maximillian’s frustration at the serene yet strong-willed Charlotte was amusing, while Charlotte herself was a complex mixture of depth and softness. A wonderful historical fiction novel, The Soldier’s Woman is one I highly recommend – I’m looking forward to book 2 already!
